Side/window Air Bag Problems of Kia Motor Sportage

The contact owns a 1997 kia Sportage. While the vehicle was stopped, the driver's side air bag deployed without warning or impact. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that they would open a case for the contact. On sept 3 2017 I was invloved in an accident in which my driver side air bag deployed leaving me with severe bruises on abdoman and burn marks on my left forearm. I went to hopspital and had an ultrasound done. Our car was totalled and wanted to make sure that I am going to not have any further medical issues I have police reports and medical report to back this up dave church.

I was exiting the highway onto a median divided street that runs east/west. I was stopped at the light, in a double turn lane, once the light turned green I proceeded to turn west going about 5 mph, immediately I was hit by a woman to the left of me in the parallel turn lane in my front driver side quarter panel. Her car hit at nearly a 90 degree angle with enough impact to rock the Sportage, it buckled the hood and knocked off several of the grill panels. Not until I moved the car and exited did I realize that there was a third car involved that impacted the car that hit me driving her into my car with enough force that her windows shatter and bent her front wheel in. Her airbags employed in her vm jetta convertible, in addition, to the roll bars deploying. I am concerned that none of my front and/or side airbags deployed during the crash. My passenger and myself sustained bruising from the impact and seat belt restraint. Why didn't the bags deploy? it would appear they are defective?.

The contact owns a 1997 kia Sportage. The contact stated that while driving in reverse, the driver¿s side air bags erroneously deployed from the steering wheel and from under the steering wheel area. The lower air bag struck the contact in the hip area and the steering wheel air bag struck the contact in the face, causing minor injuries. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileage was 125,226.

Driver side air bag lamp will come on while driving. Once stopped and engine turned off and restarted the light will not be on. Then occasionally while driving the lamp will again come back on.

At times while driving down the highway,the passenger side air bag will disengage itself because of movement in the seat. So,I end up pulling over and restart the car so that the light on the dash,telling me the air bag isn't set, resets to the on position. Sometimes I may not notice it right away. It has happened numerous times. After reporting it to the dealership twice,they keep telling me that not only can they not make it more sensitive,but that the passenger must sit properly in their seat. Over time,people tend to shuffle about in their seat and therefore I found that it is impossible to expect someone to sit still for a long drive. I have been told to ask the passenger to reposition themselves in their seat and the air bag will reset,sometimes it does,but for the most part, I end up pulling the car over and restarting the engine. 2005 kia ex care accident mother hit by drunk driver on driver side door causing head injury concussion. Side airbag and curtain did not deploy. This can cause long term effects and she is currently unable to work.

On 10/16/08 at approx. 7:20a I was t-boned in the drivers side door and back passenger door by a Ford f250 red pickup truck as I was traveling up the street doing about 35-40 mph. He was pulling out of his subdivision onto the street and his passenger side window was fogged up so he did not see me coming.

I was in auto accident and my car rolled and my body (even though I was wearing a seatbelt) was thrown around and my sternum was severely injured - hairline fracture. None of my airbags deployed. Not the front or the sides.

No failure/crash/injury to myself or anyone I know, but design complaint that could result in injury. My 2006 kia Sportage received good crash test ratings, which is why I purchased the car. I have 1 child, under 3, who's car seat is in the middle of the back because the owner's manual states car seats are unsafe on either side in the rear of the vehicle because of side curtain airbags. The only location for latch is in either side of the vehicle. I am about to have a 2nd child, and now have no safe way to place 2 children in the rear of this vehicle. I know it is a legal requirement that all vehicles have latch in the cars, but how legal can it actually be, if the locations of latch are not safe for the children?.

2001 kia Sportage with no airbag. Customer stated that the dealership took the driver side airbag out before they sold the vehicle. The consumer realized the air bag was missing when she went to use the horn and found the leather was not firm, and when she pressed harder, it left a circular indentation where the air bag should have been.

Driver's side air bag deployed while consumer was driving in reverse backing from a driveway at low speed. There was no crash or impact. This happened without any warning. No lights illuminated or warning signals. The car had been parked in a shaded area for about an hour when this occurred. Consumer's husband drove vehicle home after the incident. Have not taken this to a dealer for this issue, vehicle was parked afterwards and has not been driven since. No explanation or clue as to why this happened.

The consumer was traveling about 20mph on the highway. Another vehicle veered into her from behind and her driver's side airbag didn't go off. Nlm.
