1 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2017 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 09/04/2020

While the vehicle is in motion interstate or city street, the engine revs up without putting more pressure onto the gas peddle. On several occasions I had to hit the brake peddle to avoid hitting another vehicle and once pulled into the side of the road as a precaution. We first noticed this problem about a couple of months after purchasing the vehicle. I previously reported this to kia dealership, however he indicated that it would be the alternator or something that is causing the engine to not know what gear it's actually on. This happens randomly and at any speed. The seat belt light flashes occasionally although no one else is sitting in the vehicle and my seat belt is attached.

4 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2018 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 01/09/2020

My 2018 kia sport age at about 26,000 miles would not start. This problem started in September of 2019. I thought it might be the battery. However, kia dealership testing it shows the battery is perfect. Now I'm at 34,000 miles and my car hass to be jumped to start it about six times a week. I have had my battery tested several times. I keep being told the battery's fine. At first it would just go click click click but wouldn't start. Now it's completely dead no noise clicking when I try to start it. The check engine light comes on and then goes off. This is frustrating that I bought for the first time in my life a brand new car drove it off the lot with 11 miles and I have the most unreliable vehicle I've ever had in my lifetime. Whenever I go somewhere I have to make sure I have an electrical outlet so that I can plug my jumper box into just in case. I have missed appointments because of this, I have missed work because of this. I'm ready to leave it at the dealership and let the finance company have it. Clearly there is something wrong with this car and nobody can seem to figure it out. Something is drawing power or the alternator is not working like it's supposed to and possible frayed wire or something there. The car is completely stock and there have been no changes made to this vehicle since it was purchased. And I have maintained all the routine maintenance that should be done on a car. Someone needs to help me figure out why I have a brand new vehicle that won't start and that is unreliable.

5 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2011 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The vehicle must be jumped in order to start if it has been off for more than 2 hours. This began in November 2019. The battery and alternator both test fine. It will start if it's been driven more recently. Also, the check engine light comes on periodically, as does the tire pressure light, even though no issues are detected.

6 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 03/23/2018

I have had this vehicle less than 1 year. I have already bought 3 batteries due to something continuously draining battery power causing vehicle not to start. Upon taking to dealership for testing, I am told battery/alternator operates fine and they will charge about 85/hour to test fuses to see what else could be the problem. Approximately 3/23/3018, my radio shorted out. It is not functioning at all, cannot use radio at all nor bluetooth connectivity control. Now the odometer resets to 0 every time I turn the car on, the automatic locks don't work and tpm stays lit no matter what the actual tpm is. . I am so frustrated at this point as this is a new vehicle to me, I'm paying a note on a car that seems to be falling apart.

7 Alternator/generator/regulator problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 02/11/2013

When driving through a puddle of standing water, the 'splash' of water that entered the engine compartment caused the 'charging' warning light to illuminate, the engine to stall, resulting in the loss of power assist to both steering and brakes. This had never occurred in all my previous years of ownership, but has recurred multiple times since. I had vehicle serviced this week and was told this was 'normal' and related to the alternator on the vehicle being mounted 'low to the ground'. Well, the alternator position has not changed, and I had driven through puddles many times over the previous six years without incident. I don't know if this is a design flaw or a dealership that simply was not able to diagnose the issue, but loss of braking and steering assist compromises safe operation.
