The contact owns a 2012 kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving 60 mph, the engine seized. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact veered to the side of the road. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle after several attempts. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the engine had seized and the starter was damaged. 2 Starter problem of the 2018 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 05/11/2021

Initially, I attempted to crank the vehicle by pressing the starter button. I heard a click and noticed quick flashing lights from the dash, then nothing happened except clicks, noises and minimal light as if the battery was down. There was nothing on inside the car to cause battery failure. The brake was hard to press down to restart the vehicle. Therefore, I opted to jump-start the car and it immediately powered up. All of the lights on the dashboard flashed on a few times then the letters afls appeared on the dashboard. The radio/gps display continued to flicker and flash on and off nonstop as I continued to drive. I allowed the car to run for 5 minutes at home then proceeded to drive. After driving for 25 minutes on the highway, I turned to park, the steering wheel locked then unlocked in the process. I stopped to check to make sure that I was in the proper gear, still in disbelief that this steering wheel locking was occurring. I proceeded to back up the vehicle when the wheel locked again. I checked to see if the car was still running after that harder lock/jerk in the parking lot. I stopped the car, placed it in park without turning off the engine to gather myself because this was a very frightening and alarming experience to say the least. I didn't turn off the engine because I was uncertain if it would restart considering what occurred earlier with jump-starting the car. I drove back home making a concerted effort to drive slowly on the street. I then entered the open ramp onto the highway. I took extreme precautions and hoping that the steering wheel would not lock again which may have further caused my family and I to be placed into harm's way, not to mention the other drivers to be in danger on the road. I hope that immediate attention will be given to this matter to avoid further terror and trepidation, any injuries and/or loss of life.

3 Starter problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 09/08/2018

While driving at 65mph my kia Sportage went dead. I pulled over onto the side of the road. I tried to start it again but it would not start. After that, smoke started coming out from under the hood. The kia was towed to the kia dealership and checked by mechanics, who said that the rod bearing went bad and it seized the engine. The starter was also fried in the process. Kia agreed to replace the parts but would not agree to pay the approximately $2500 labor cost. The vehicle still sits at the dealership awaiting repair. It's been over 2 months now. I plan to pursue having kia pay for the labor as well. I now owe $7000 on a car that will not run.

5 Starter problem of the 2007 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 04/17/2018

I purchased this vehicle a little over 2 weeks ago for my son and on 3 different occasions the vehicle refused to start, iv'e had the vehicle towed back to the dealer twice, they checked the battery, said it was good, said the alternator was good also, they had the vehicle all weekend, they said they replaced the starter, picked the vehicle up yesterday, my son took it to school today and the vehicle would not start again, I tried to jump start it with no luck, I had to have it towed back to the dealership again, I feel this vehicle is unsafe for my son to drive, they are trying to fix it as we speak, what options do I have for getting my money back for this vehicle.

7 Starter problem of the 2013 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 05/14/2015

The design of the ignition key is faulty. This vehicle only starts with a proximity interface between the interior starter button and the remote key which is attached to a manual key for the doors. The manual door key attaches to a key ring and the expensive reomte key attaches to the manual key. On 5 different ocasions while walking or exiting my car the remote key has seperated from the manual key and fallen to the ground. I have been lucky and been aware of this when it has happened. This could easliy leave me stranded and in danger due to this design. The key ring holder should be attached the remote device and not the manual key. The dealer offered no solution.

8 Starter problem of the 1997 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 03/27/2004

I have been having stalling problems for about 2weeks now, at first I thought it might be the battery; but I checked it out at autozone for free and the machine that detects how much power in the battery suggested that the battery was fine. The stalling problems started two weeks ago and I had to push-start the car about four times and then it decided to not start at all, I know its not the battery because it has been checked and it still has power.

12 Starter problem of the 1999 Kia Motor Sportage

13 Starter problem of the 1999 Kia Motor Sportage

Failure Date: 10/01/1999

I purchased my kia Sportage 4x4 brand new in July of 1999 since I day I drove it off the lot it has been a constant source of stress and frustration. Shortly after purchasing it the check engine light would continously come on and then the car would lurch and chug. Car was towed back to the dealership and it was kept there for apporoximately 2and a half weeks. It has also had problems where it wouldn't start due to corrosion on the starter clip . This has happened twice. I also had the windshield wipers stop working on the way home from work in a snow storm with my four year old son in the back. It also started making a loud rumbling noise that sounded like I was driving over speed bumps. This led to them needing to replace the hubs, bearings, and axle shafts. Car only had approximately 33000 miles on it. At the same time I was told that the front brake pads and rotors were bad and needed to be replaced. This was at a cost of $400. 00 to me. I have very strong safety concerns with this vehicle. I do not like having myself or my child in the vehicle for fear of what else is going to happen with it and will we survive to tell about it.
