Ignition Problems of Kia Motor Sportage

The contact owns a 2017 kia Sportage. The contact stated while driving approximately 55 mph, there was a knocking and ticking sound coming from the vehicle. The vehicle continued driving but then stalled. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine had seized. An anti-theft device was installed. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was able to restart the vehicle with a pair of pliers. The manufacturer was contacted, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 118,101.

My 2001 kia Sportage's engine will shut off without warning. There is no logic to the incidents: waiting at a traffic signal, driving in city traffic, driving at freeway speeds. Moving the gear shift selector to neutral and turning the ignition switch will usually restart the engine in one try, but not always. I have replaced two emission control solenoid valves, the fuel tank and the crank position sensor on the recommendation of the kia dealer and on-line chatters having similar problems quite a few of them. A recent visit to the kia dealer found o codes stored in the on-board diagnostic system. The dealership will not acknowledge the problem. The date listed below was an incident witnessed by my parents, actually the fourth such occurrence in as many days.

I bought mt 2001 kia Sportage in 2003. It was a 2 door automatic soft top. The problems with the car started within months. First the "hold" light would come on and then while driving the care would stick in one gear. I could not slow down with out it stalling once the gears got stuck. I took it to the dealer, and the replaced the transmission. This did not fix the problem b/c it still happens even to this day and every place I take it to says that there is no problem. In 2005 everything started going downhill. The power windows dont work the cd player eats you cds and I get no reseption on the radio. Not to mention the seat belt light comes on all the time and continues to flash and beep even with your seat belt is on. The pasenger seatbelt does not stay clasped. The car will shut off while driving if I turn on the air. The air only blows on your feet. My car shakes violently it I go about 50 mph. The car makes a wierd chattering noise while driving. And the brakes have locked up for no reason. All of these things I have stated are true and I have taken my car to the dealership numerous of times and seem to get it "fixed" but something else happens before the month ends. I have had my car in the shop for more than 3 months total, and it still doesnt run properly. So far I have had the tramission replaced, the electrical harness, the master and rear cylinder(2x), wheel barring, alternater, started , batteries(4x),air vents, ad many other thing but I cant keep track of everything that goes wrong with this car. Im a college student that has a very limited income, and I cant wasted any more time and money dealing with this car that should last longer than I is. My first car was better tha this one and it was made in the 80's.

While driving at normal speed intermittently vehicle was losing power . Dealer has inspected vehicle four times, and still problem recurring.

The safeguard keep failing on key remote, dealer has been notified and replace the safeguard and it keep on failing. Please provide further information. Ts.

Recall 99v325000 concerning stalling. Vehicle was experiencing an electrical problem that interfered with performance. Vehicle was recalled and repairs done, but symptoms returned. Manufacturer claimed no responsibility because consumer was not the original owner. Check engine light was on. The vehicle vibrated, smoked and was overheating. The left front tire blew out. Ignition coils cracked and were replaced. Vehicle had a blown head gasket. Front left turn signal clips broke. Oxygen sensor failed. Right front door lock fell off. Vehicle had several parts on recall before the consumer purchased it and the consumer believed those recalled parts were the source of the problem.

Twice it has shot spark plug right out of engne.

Car loses power while in motion, taken to dealer on 4 occasions in a time span of three months, everytime they say something different is wrong with it, yet it has been the same type of failure everytime. I have been in one near fatal accident on the highway when the car lost power going 70mps, I had to drive off of the hwy so that I wouldn't be hit from behind, then my husband has almost been in atleast 4 accidents, when the car loses power while turning onto a busy intersection (car stalls in the middle of the road). Dealer can't seem to find anything wrong with the car, yet I keep having the same problems. I just got the car back from the dealer this past Friday, and it is still stalling out on me. Is it going to take me, or one of my family members, dying in this car to see what the real problem is? please help me. I don't know where else to turn to.

Vehicle stalls/dies when it comes to a stop, and sometimes will not restart.

The car has on going problems. I have been telling kia's mechanics that I have been experiencing the same problems over and over. 1) electrical-power surges, loss of power while driving,fuses blowing! kia replaced the battery and said it should be fine now but it started doing it again! went in for a recall on mcc and ended up doing other recalls that I never received! now, the problem is worse! fuses are blowing! I have been told they cant find the problem to there is nothing wrong with the car! basically, I am under the assumption they cant find it until something really goes wrong. Well, it has! the loss of power is ten times worse! I fear for any life while the vehicle is in operation! this is my first car and I am a young female! so, I feel like I am being blown off and such when dealing with the mechanics. 2) braking has been wierd also! feels like it takes along time to come to complete stop! I am afraid that when kia fixes the problem it isn't really fixed because I keep having problems with the car and they seem to be the same ones. I feel like I have no recourse! I need the assistance of someone to help me! I have talk ed to many kia owners and they experience the same problems! they also have gotten no satisfaction! all that we can say as consumers is that we will never buy a kia again! help us!.

Vehicle stalls at highway speeds. All recalls have been performed. No change, still stalls. Please investigate!.

One numerous attempts to get these diffrent probelms fixed always something elsewent wrong with the vehicle within a hour or so of time after picking vehicle up from the dealership. I currently have a major engine probelm that still exists with a very strong odor of sulfur smell. Vehicle has left me stranded along roadside with 3 children in it on at least 4 separate occasions. I have contacted the manufacter and they will not repurchase this vechile back nor do they acknowledge current engine probelms and the safety issue of this vechile. I have a techinical no partial party report about this vechile and the ( maufacture will still not repurchase this vechile from me) I need everyone to know what kind of probelms this vechile has given me as of this point only owning this for 6 months with 4000 + miles on it.

Vehicle stalled with no warning. Dealer fixed it, and said it was an electrical short. The vehicle stall four times. The cause was found to be transmission going into safety mode when the vehicle was in defrost mode.

While periodically driving 5mph or less vehicle would automatically shutoff. Engine check light came on first, than it shutoff. Consumer has taken vehicle to dealer, and was not able to find cause or remedy. Since the first incident, vehicle has shutdown 5 more times.

Ignition wire was corroded, it caused a bad connection at the starter.

Connector corrosion caused vehicle not to start. Also, there was a camshaft oil leak. While driving vehicle at 65mph, engine started to race. Was as if someone put vehicle in neutral and stepped on gas.

Connsumer was traveling 55mph on highway, and said that vehicle was turning right on highway without turning wheels. Vehicle was turning on its own dealership was aware of problem. But,mechanic could not duplicate problem. The vehicle had other problems also. There were electrical shocks when placing key in ignition. The battery was losing power for unknown reason. There was a clicking sound on right front of the vehicle.

Kia Sportage 1997, vehicle was in an accident, the accident was reported to the police, after the dealership was suppose to repair the vehicle it kept shutting off. Vehicle had a bent frame. Consumer took vehicle to the dealership twice, and they failed to fix the problem. Electric windows will not go up after being pushed down. Consumer heard a whistling noise in the vehicle. The consumer believed the vehicle was unsafe therefore traded it in for another vehicle.

Been to dealer several times problem persists. Loss of control nearly caused accidents.

Vehicle won't start. Nlm.

While driving at 45 mph lights on dash went out and smoke filled the car. The wires under the dash that runs to the engine cought on fire. Fire department was contacted no enjuries. Manf. Contacted.

The vehicle will not start up right away, after five tries the vehicle will start. The dealer has attemped to repair the vehicle four times. The manufacturer has been notified.
