Addendum # 2 from original complaint and response through senator marco rubio office. 1st addendum dated August 9 2019. Husband arrived at courtesy kia and as expected, no loaner vehicle. Finally I reached the sales manager and explained how disgusting it would be for a disabled man who is paying for a defective car and promised a loaner to have to call uber. He agreed to loan one under "test drive" guise. Friday 9,2019 heard nothing about our car. We called at 4:30. Fernando stated that they had it in back and did not know what was wrong with it. Saturday 10,2019. . 1:45, jenny the service advisor called and stated that our car was ready " we put a ksds wiring harness". No further explanation. Not even via email. The service ticket on states. . . Engine noise pass, put wiring harness jumper. I looked at the protocol on NHTSA site. It states clearly. The car must be hooked up to internet everyday and a 21 step procedure to check for engine noise. On the service ticket, mileage was identical in and out. How do you really test a car without driving it. This was a rush job on their part. . . Employees pretending to not know about this massive defect. The 26 page document attached speaks volumes. We asked for a photo of the wiring harness that was damaged. They refused, they also stated that it is being sent back to the manufacturer. Meanwhile. . . Two disabled persons get to drive in fear, live in fear and pay for a defective engine/car and was scammed by citrus kia, Kia Motors, kia America. Attorneys general, states attorneys, senators, please hold kia accountable. Please make them actually show up in front of congress ♿ plant city. . . . Per the document. Everyday doesn't mean , day and half.

Vehicle suddenly decelerated to 20 mph on one way highway in a passing zone. Problem then diagnosed as engine failure. 5 weeks later, with vehicle still out of service, diagnosed instead as wiring harness problem. Wiring harness replaced. Brand new car, 11 months old , 5,925 miles, serviced with first oil change 5 days before problem occurred. Kia roadside assistance had no regard for my safety on the side of a dangerous freeway and had to be resolved two hours later with aaa service towing. Still no reimbursement from kia.
I bought a 2008 kia Sportage at osage beach mo on July 12, 2016. I sent it to ghana in August, 2016 and cleared from the port in November, 2016. The said car was parked for several hours at hospital on August 21, 2018 and caught fire at 10. 00pm the same day. The fire service was called and put out the fire. After examination the stated it was electrical fire caused by the wiring harness. I then learnt after the incident that there had been a recall ( # 16v815000 / SC 138) issued on November 10, 2016 of which I wasn't notified. Attached, please find pictures of the damage kia Sportage and original title. I am waiting for a detailed report form fire service department at essam, ghana, which I will send to your office upon receipt. By this complaint, I am there requesting Kia Motors America to repair all damages caused by the fire or replace the vehicle. Thank you for your attention.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 kia Sportage. While driving approximately 45 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning in the middle of traffic. The contact stated that the failure occurred twice. During each failure, the contact smelled a burning odor through the ventilation system. The contact received assistance from bystanders and pushed the vehicle to the side of the road. The vehicle was towed to scott kia of springfield (321 baltimore pike, springfield, pennsylvania 19064, (610) 544-0100) where it was initially diagnosed that the battery needed to be replaced. Upon a second assessment, the dealer stated that the wires were loose in the vehicle, and that it was probable that animals/rodents had eaten away at the wiring of the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and noticed that the wires were burnt. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and provided the contact with case number: 12749312. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

Air bag light came on and passenger air bag light was blinking on and off. I took my car to the dealership and was told that there was a material defect in the seat belt tensioner connected to the wiring harness. They said that if I were to get into an accident that my airbags may not deploy. I have the best extended warranty that you can buy and they will not cover the replacement of the wiring harness because it has to do with the safety restraint system. This is absolutely ridiculous and unsafe!!! how is this not a recall when it is a material defect and is directly related to the safety of the vehicle? I have researched online and found that many other people are having the issue of their air bag light being on and little do they know that it's linked to this whole problem. This is not an isolated issue and from what I found there are many cases of the airbags not deploying in the case of an accident which is probably due to the same material defect.

While changing the driver side headlight bulb, I noticed that the connector had burned and that the wires going to the connector were not connected to each other due to the burning. I noticed when barely grabbing the back of the bulb, that the electrical harness for the main light would spark and started to smoke causing the headlamp enclosure to fill with soot and smoke. Small sparks can be seen when trying to remove the headlight bulb itself as well as when trying to adjust the wires. The passenger side wiring has no defects or damage.
Wiring harness failure - dealer diagnosis - cracked, brittle, corrosion - lose of interior fan resulting in no heat, defrost, air conditioning. Dealer states harness and fuse block replacement required. I have no heater or defrost - it was 22 degrees this morning - I drove 5 miles before windshield was clear.

The contact owns a 1998 kia Sportage. The contact stated while traveling at 25 mph, the vehicle began to lose power. The hold button illuminated on the dashboard. The vehicle was taken to an independent where an unknown repair was made to the vehicle. The failure persisted. The mechanic advised that the failure was similar to NHTSA campaign id number: 99v325000 (electrical system: wiring) but the contact did not confirm if his VIN was included in the recall. The failure mileage was 89,000 and the current mileage was 89,835.
Coolant gauge not reading or registering thermostat temperature therefore rendering it unfit for clearing an inspection. It causes the check engine light to stay on even if coolant and/or thermostat, sensors, harness wiring wires and other things/parts connect to it has been replaced or checked for problems it still gives a false reading that the same problem is wrong with vehicle. Coolant thermostat not reaching temperature.

The electrical harness in my 2006 kia Sportage had an electric melt down. At prox 72,000 miles. Dealer could not find or fix the problem- factory rep came and rewired the harness by replacing the melted wiring.
The contact had a 2000 kia Sportage. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. The vehicle had not been taken to a mechanic. 2002 kia Sportage, in February '07 while driving the radio went out, & with the dash board lights failing. Pulled over, turned car off. Attempted v to restart, the car did not start. Had car towed & manually checked battery thinking that was the problem. Next day car started up immediately, and taken to dealership for further check-up. The dealership charged me $248 for the diagnostic test & then placement of a new battery, which was said to be the cause. Weeks later on March 31 car did the same with the radio and the dashboard lights. The car jerked about 30 miles. When I would pull over to the side of the road it seemed to regain its strength, but once I continued to drive ,it started to jerk again, with the oil odometer went up/down! took car to dealership, it jerked in there. When the service workers went to the car, I was told, no problems driving the car, & the diagnostic test showed nothing was wrong. The car stayed at the dealership Saturday-Thursday, with no problems. The service manager asked if she could drive it home. She said the car drove fine and put 40 miles on car. It was fine on Thursday when I picked it up. Drove Saturday and car had same problems. Headlights & dashboard lights went out. At 5 am this was scary & unsafe, some cars didn't see me, even with the hazards on. With radio out & car jerking all the way home. On Monday, went to leave and car did not start. Towed to kia for the 3rd time in a month. Car started, but some 2001 & 2002 Sportage models had a main engine wiring tear and "the whole harnessed had to be ordered . It will take about 6 hours to install . It would be in on Wednesday April 11, 2007. This was the 3rd time in a month the car had been in the shop, I paid for a battery & the problem persisted. I it was a cop-out for the actual problem. Was inconvenienced without a car & a hard time getting a loaner. Did not have a car for over 7 days. I want fair treatment on a car that I' was paying ample amount of money.
I have had repeated problems with fuel system on my kia Sportage. I have had the fuel injectors, fuel filters (3 now), line cleaned etc. Mechanic has now had to remove tank and clean it along with rest of system. Gaskets won't seal while trying to finish the repair work. This has been an on-going problem for the past year. I also had to have the complete wiring harness done last year. It kept shorting out relays all through the vehicle.
: the contact stated that the vehicle stalled due to a loss of circuit continuity. There is a recall, #99v325000, pertaining to the electrical system: wiring. The vehicle has the same characteristics as listed in the recall however it is not included in the recall due to the VIN.

Vehicle does not want to start, however, the radio and power windows are still working so it is not a battery issue. Once the vehicle did start it would die when you started up from a stop at a traffic light and/or sometimes would simply die when put your foot on the gas pedal. I took it to a shop and they indicated it was a fuel pump issue. The following day after the fuel pump was repaired the vehicle did the same thing. The shop then indicating there had been a wiring recall so they changed out the wiring harness. Two days later the vehicle almost died on the way to the airport, it would shake violently when idling and there was very limited power when I was attempting to accelerate. The shop looked at it again and the air manifest indicator came on so they cleaned out the air flow. Two days later it was still doing the same thing. The shop then indicating that their sensor indicated a different part of the system was failing. The shop contacted a kia facilitated and was told it sounded like a computer issue, however, even if the computer was changed out, it could be a sensor issue and the vehicle would continue to die when I was driving in traffic and/or pulling from a stop. A vehicle that dies is a huge safety issue, and it does not sound like it can be easily fixed and/or kia does not want to do the work.
I drove our SUV about 2 miles parked it in the garage and noticed a burning smell. I noticed the clock, radio, door locks, and passenger window were not working. I drove the car the next day for a short distance to work. Than called kia talked to a janson cook who checked my vehicle for recall on this wiring. He said my Sportage was not on file for the VIN# and would not be fixed under the recall. I checked the internet and the 1998 Sportages had a recall for a c123 and c124 cable which became loose and could cause a crash or us of my SUV. I than called the NHTSA and talked to kim she said file a complaint. I am afraid to drive for long distances more the 5 miles without something happening to cause me or someone else injury. The recall notice is 99v325000 this to fix the loose wiring that can cause SUV to stop completely causing injury or loss of vehicle control.
In December of 2000 I purchased a kia Sportage 1999 from mcgrath in elgin, IL. From the beginning the front seat belt buckle did not always lock and the interior & exterior lights flickered. I took the vehicle to a local repair shop but they could not find why the lights flickered. On August 2, 2005 my vehicle died in front of a marathon gas station/repair shop in rolling meadows, IL. The mechanic called me and told me I needed a new fuel pump. I told him to do the repair. The next day, the mechanic calls me to tell me that the fuel tank is so rusted it needs to be replaced and he has already called the kia dealer and the fuel tank is in "stock". I told him to do the repair. (please reference complaint #10131393). When I went to pick up the vehicle, it kept blowing the fuses and dying. I never got out of the gas station parking lot. I left the vehicle with them. On August 4, I had the vehicle with the original fuel pump and fuel tank towed to the mcgrath kia dealer in elgin, IL. In the meantime, I got on the internet and did a search for kia recalls. My vehicle has 3 recalls- one for the front seat belt buckle campaign #04v305000, one for the electrical system wiring campaign #99v32500, and one for service brakes, hydraulic, foundation components: hoses, lines/piping and fittings campaign #98v222000. All of these recalls were in effect before I purchased the vehicle. I have asked the mcgrath kia dealer to fax me copies of the repairs for the recalls, but have not received anything in writing that these recalls were repaired before they sold me the vehicle. Now I am waiting for the kia dealer to look at my vehicle. I was told it could be days. Phone interview update (oct. 31, 2005): no fuel leak; however, the tank was so badly rusted. She agreed to email pictures of the tank.
I own a 2002 kia Sportage. This vehicle was purchased new. I have had numerous problems with this vehicle, too numerous to list. You are welcomed and encouraged to contact williamsburg crysler Jeep kia for all of the vehicles information. The problems with this vehicle started within a week of purchase and continue to today. At this writing this vehicle is currently in the shop having to have been towed in on Friday 05/06/ 05. I just got the vehicle back on tueday 05/02/05. I have approximately 10 pages on the dates and the work that has been done since the vehicle was purchased. I have been in touch with the complaint department with kia and I was told nothing could be done to help me but to continue to send it to the dealership to have it fixed. My warranty expires on this vehicle in approximately 6000 more miles. With the amount of problems that I am currently having and the problems in the past I am worried what will happen when the warranty expires. Thank you for your time in this matter. Please feel free to contact the dealership and/or me.
Dt the vehicle revs up to almost 2000 rpm's, the vehicle jerked then stalled. This has been going on for about 5 years. The vehicle has been serviced, but it keeps happening. There has been a recall on the vehicle, but the dealership stated that the service computer indicated that the recall repair was already done.

The vehicle takes about twenty minutes to start, it will turn over. The vehicle will stall in the middle of the road, and it will shake right before stalling. . Found recall 99v325000 for the electrical system wiring but kia said my vehicle not included in the recall due to VIN. Took vehicle to two mechanic shops, and they could not find what was wrong with it. This started on April 15, 2005.
My 1999 kia Sportage will not start occasionally. I looked on the web to find the error and found recall number 99v325000 that is for an electrical system: wiring recall. I took my Sportage into the dealer and explained that the Sportage occassionally would not start, everything else would work perfectly. I had my starter and battery tested before I took it to the dealer both checked out fine. After having my car for 1 day the dealer stated that the only thing that they could find is that the starter wire had lost tension and that may be the problem. I asked about the recall and they stated when they put my car id number only two recalls showed one for emissions and the other for seat belt buckles. I called the kia manaufacturer hotline at 800. 3333. 4542 and they stated the same. I then looked on the NHTSA site to find out that there is a recall on my vehicle. I do remember getting letters regarding the other two recalls but not for the wiring recall.
The left front rotors were defective. This was discovered during vehicle inspection. The vehicle was serviced at least twenty times for other defects. No service for the brakes. There was a short in the wiring in the shock arms, a problem with the catalytic converter, rattling in the exhaust system, license plate lights were inoperative due to rotted sockets, wheel bearings were extremely loose, pulling to the right, the right rear power window was inoperative, check engine light had come on possibly due to a small leak or a loose gas cap, transmission hang up when cold, bad front brakes, crack in dash, cup holder was broken, tailpipe rusted and fell off, when the heater and defrost was on the a/c would come on, the consumer would get shock when exiting the vehicle, intermittently both rear window would not go up or down, and the left rear window was totally inoperative. (there was no power when going up hill).
I bought mt 2001 kia Sportage in 2003. It was a 2 door automatic soft top. The problems with the car started within months. First the "hold" light would come on and then while driving the care would stick in one gear. I could not slow down with out it stalling once the gears got stuck. I took it to the dealer, and the replaced the transmission. This did not fix the problem b/c it still happens even to this day and every place I take it to says that there is no problem. In 2005 everything started going downhill. The power windows dont work the cd player eats you cds and I get no reseption on the radio. Not to mention the seat belt light comes on all the time and continues to flash and beep even with your seat belt is on. The pasenger seatbelt does not stay clasped. The car will shut off while driving if I turn on the air. The air only blows on your feet. My car shakes violently it I go about 50 mph. The car makes a wierd chattering noise while driving. And the brakes have locked up for no reason. All of these things I have stated are true and I have taken my car to the dealership numerous of times and seem to get it "fixed" but something else happens before the month ends. I have had my car in the shop for more than 3 months total, and it still doesnt run properly. So far I have had the tramission replaced, the electrical harness, the master and rear cylinder(2x), wheel barring, alternater, started , batteries(4x),air vents, ad many other thing but I cant keep track of everything that goes wrong with this car. Im a college student that has a very limited income, and I cant wasted any more time and money dealing with this car that should last longer than I is. My first car was better tha this one and it was made in the 80's.

Owner says that the vehicle had an electrical fire which damaged the wire harness. Please provide any additional information.
While driving at 30 mph vehicle stalled without warning. Vehicle was towed to the dealership, and technician determined that wiring and connectors failed.
Vehicle had four recalls and airbag light kept flashing. Recalls were on brake hoses, front buckle assembly, electrical wiring and missing label. While driving the vehicle air bag light began to flash. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the technician indicated that the air bag module had failed. While driving the vehicle's check engine light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken tot he dealer who indicated that the coils were cracked. Transmission line was leaking.
Vehicle has been to the dealer for several problems, some of which was covered under the warranty. But I think that a car that I got in 2000 should not give me such major problems. Now, I was driving it and the lights started to flash, horn started to blow, windshield wipers came on by themselves in a frenzy and then the whole car shut off. When I lifted up the hood, something smelled to be burning, I believe the wiring is bad and it shorted out the whole car. The mechanic said no offense but kia is not a very good build car at all. It has too many problems.
1999 kia Sportage wiring harness, throttle body position, fuel pump replaced, etc. . . . Nar 07/28/2003.
I have a 1999 kia Sportage. On 23 April, 2003 I accelerated after stopping at a stop sign at an intersection and all of a sudden I heard a "clunk" sound coming from my transmission, my vehicle stalled in the middle of the intersection and the "hold" light and the "check engine" light came on. I was able to get the vehicle moving again after a few seconds and after checking things out in a local parking lot and not seeing anything wrong under the hood I took it to a local dealer to get fixed. The vehicle was put on the diagnostics machine and it showed the p0101 code. The fix for this problem is around $500 and my warranty doesn't cover this problem. Kia has a bulletin on how to fix this problem, so they are aware that this problem exists. I called kia about the problem and the person I spoke with was very rude and refused to listen to my complaint and told me it's my problem, there's nothing they can do and this problem isn't a recall because it's not a safety concern. I don't see how it's not a safety concern when my vehicle stalled in the middle of an intersection! also, $500 is a lot of money especially when warranty's don't cover it. Everybody from the warranty company and the dealer have all told me that this should be a safety concern, thus should be a recall. The folks at the warranty company said that about 95% of the people that call in with this type of vehicle are calling in about this type of problem. Thank you for your time.
All power doors, windows, and brake lights do not work in my 2000 kia Sportage. After inspecting all fuses and light bulbs, I believe bad wiring or bad connectors to be the culprit.
Smoke had come out of the steering column. The vehicle was taken to the mechanic, who stated the wires in steering column caused friction. The mechanic stated that eventually the vehicle would burn to the ground. The battery was replaced twice due to a corroded cable which lead to the engine. The horn was inoperative and the consumer was unsure if the air bag(s) would deploy.
