Front Air Bag Sensor Control Problems of Lexus ES

Lexus has open recall on 2020 Lexus Es350 since Dec 2023 with no remedy provided. It is extremely negligent of them to have no solution while drivers of their vehicles are putting their passengers in extreme risk of their safety for air bag sensors not working properly.

After 2. 5 years of satisfactory operation, the front passenger airbag sensor light began to intermittently change between "on" and "off" with my 100 lb. Wife as the front seat passenger (same wife, same weight within +/- 3 lbs,), Lexus dealer tried 2 recalibrations with no success. Lexus customer support says sensors are designed to detect adults weighing 84 lbs or more. "gina" said it really didn't matter because of protection from the seat belt, other air bags (side) and "sturdy construction".

The end of July 2011 I had noticed a dashboard light go on. Warning that the air bag was not active. I had a sickness in the family and could not bring this vehicle in to edison Lexus untill 8/23/2011 to have it looked at and fixed. Lexus of edison said if I replace the original battery Es 330 it would solve the problem with the passenger airbag seat sensor. I did that for about $160. 00 this did not fix the problem ! Lexus of edison said that sensor is part of the seat frame and it would have to be replaced and it would cost to me of $ 3,359. 50 . I called Lexus directly and they said they would help pay half . I said to Lexus that this is a safety issue and this part should never fail. This should be the manufacturers responsibility to fix this safety issue Lexus federal safety components us warranty for 96 months and 80,000 miles,and restraint systems is 72 months and 70,000 miles . And when I had taken the Es330 to them it was in the aove timeframe. I had only approximately 56,224 miles on this vehicle.

Wed may 23, 2007 went to jm Lexus to check on the lights on the dashboard which say air bag on and air bag off. Saw joshua lentz who said they recalibrated the system. He told me that as long as front passenger weighs above 70 lbs the air bag system should operate. I asked if the air bag would activate in event of accident if the air bag off sign shows. He told me it would not activate. Today as we drove the sign air bag on showed. After a stop at a store we drove home and the air bag off sign showed all the way home. Today I called 1-800-255-3987, which is the Lexus customer assistance center & spoke to mr caleb. He will have someone call me in two days with some answers. Am still waiting for the call. Fri may 25, 2007 got call back from john hall, service manager at jm Lexus. Told me he will be in touch with Lexus in California about the air bag problem. He believes they are working on the software for the air bag and he will try to find out when they think they will have a solution. He will call me today after he speaks to California. Sun may 27, 2007 haven't heard from service manager john hall.

Air bag light comes on , airbags will not deploy in the event of an accident, dealer attributes the light coming on to a loose wire located under driver's seat. This has been occurring since 2003 at about 35,000 miles . The vehicle now has 70,000 miles and the light continues to come on , I feel my safety is in jeopardy every time this light comes. After repeated visits to the dealer this problem continues.
