36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Lexus RX350

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

T-sb-0201-11 from Toyota/Lexus states "some vehicles equipped with 2gr-fe/fxe towing package engines may exhibit an oil seep from the engine oil cooler pipes. " this TSB affects Toyota and Lexus vehicles going back to at least 2008-present. This is a major issue, and I feel this should be handled as a recall instead of a TSB due to the severity of the issue if/when the pipe breaks. I recently elected to have my vehicle repaired on my own just so I wouldn't have to worry about this issue happening to me or my wife, and thus blowing up my Lexus RX 350's engine causing thousands of dollars in damages. Seems pretty bad that a recall can be issued for floor mats and accelerator issues, but no recall is issued for this issue which can drain the oil from your engine in a minute, blow up your engine, and then possibly wreck your vehicle. Consumer's engines are now being destroyed, and this is showing up in different online forums. I feel that the NHTSA needs to force Toyota/Lexus to replace all of the defective engine oil cooler pipes with the newer metal ones that the TSB addresses. They should also be forced to reimburse all costs to those individuals that either needed to have the repair done, or decided to have the repair done as preventative maintenance on their own before those pipes burst on their own.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Lexus RX350

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

We have complained about a noise upon starting the car for the past year when having the vehicle serviced. This was the first service visit where dealer was able to pinpoint the code and they came back with the cam shaft variable valve timing (vvt) gear issue. The repair estimate was $6830. I found your recall dated September 4, 2013 # 13v395000 for vvt on Lexus gs350, is350 and is350c models for the same model year and find it suspicious as the same engine is used. I am wondering if other RX 350s have the same issue and the recall should actually be expanded to include the Rx350 model. At this point, the dealer says they need to tear the vehicle down to accurately assess if it is the bolts or another issue but the expense is very high. I also was wondering what the range of miles were on the recalled vehicles? thank you for looking into this.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Lexus RX350

Failure Date: 03/03/2012

I experienced a sudden unintended acceleration (sua) in the parking lot of my apartment on March 3rd, 2012. It was a sunny day, and the road condition was good. My wife was driving Lexus RX 350 2011 model (mileage: 2124miles). My daughter and I were sitting on the back seats. She was slowing down the vehicle for parking and about to finalize the parking by going forward by about 3 feet. At that time, the vehicle abruptly accelerated with the sound of revving up the engine. The car ran over a parking block and went on curb stones. By help of the brake override system equipped after the recent Toyota's recalls, she could stop the vehicle quickly because her foot was already on the brake pedal. We all were surprised at this rare situation, but fortunately there were no accidents or injuries. We reported this experience to a close Lexus dealership. Two Lexus engineers inspected the vehicle, including 10-mile test driving. However, they could not find any mechanical problems. They could not re-enact the same situation, neither. At this inspection, they did not check out the event data recorder, as well as any electronic systems like etcs. According to the inspection result, Lexus directed me to keep driving this vehicle with my own risk. This is not related to the floor mat interference problem that led to the massive recall in 2009. So, I think the current Lexus users, as well as potential consumers, should be aware of the possibility that they can experience the similar unintended acceleration while driving or parking.

39 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Lexus RX350

Failure Date: 08/20/2011

Lexus RX 350s have defective ignition coil packs. They are failing like bad light bulbs. When one fails the vsc and "check engine" lights come on; drive too far and the engine starts to shake so violently you simply can not drive. Two of the six in my car have failed so far. I am told Toyota used the same engine in their '07 avalons with the same results. They need to recall and replace all of them.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Lexus RX350

Failure Date: 07/11/2011

I have now had to replace 3 ignition coils. I only have the paperwork for 2 times, but each time the car began to run rough and the engine went off at stops, and the electrical system light went on. The first time this happened, which I think was in 2010, the Lexus technician said it was a fluke. The second time (above date), the Lexus technician said he was beginning to see a lot of ignition coil failures. This last time (today), the technician said replacing faulty ignition coils is now common, and just a part of maintenance. He also said some people were choosing to replace all 6 of them at once so that they wouldn't be stranded at night or on the road, and to save money. Obviously, there's a major problem with Lexus Rx350 ignition coils.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Lexus RX350

Failure Date: 12/14/2010

I was driving my 2009 Lexus RX 350 down a major surface street when my power brakes and steering went out. I attempted to drive again after moving to a side street, and my steering and brakes went out 2 more times, I then had my vehicle towed to my Lexus dealer. They could not identify the reason for the problem.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Lexus RX350

Failure Date: 10/25/2010

The oil cooler hose burst without warning, spewing oil all over the road and in our driveway and garage. In addition to a safety hazard, this is an environmental problem. The car is a 2007 Lexus Rx350. The hose was replaced by the dealer under a "campaign," but no prior notice of the problem was issued.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Lexus RX350

Failure Date: 11/01/2009

When the SUV shifts from 1st to 2rd gear the engine revs up about 1000 rpms and hesitates 2-5 seconds before the shift takes place. I can't rely on power when needed because of this. It's not constant, about 30% of the time it occurs. The same thing happens when down shifting. The dealer, kendall Lexus of eugene oregon (rick strong-service manager) is aware of the problem and says "Toyota won't put out a new chip to fix the problem". Rick strong also said" I told the salesman he should inform potential buyers about this problem before they purchase a vehicle". This problem is ongoing since I bought the vehicle.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Lexus RX350

Failure Date: 04/01/2008

Several times a week the engine idles fast on start up and lasts for about five minutes. It does not seem to be related to the weather and there seems to be no identifying factor with which it can be associated.
