When the contact poured brake fluid into the reservoir and depressed the brake pedal, smoke appeared from the engine compartment near the master cylinder. The contact owns a 2008 Lincoln Town Car. While approaching traffic in a lane, the brake pedal was applied and was slow to respond. The contact applied force and the brake pedal traveled to the floor. As a result, the contact crashed into the preceding vehicle. The contact owns a 2005 Lincoln Town Car. While approaching a stop at approximately 12-15 mph, the vehicle accelerated on its own. The failure only occurs when braking and has happened four times since December of 2008. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and they kept if for five days, but they could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was returned and seemed to be repaired. On June 17, 2009, the failure recurred. The dealer stated that the master cylinder failed or an oil leak was present. They further stated that the failure could not be corrected until it could be duplicated. The vehicle will be taken to the repair shop for diagnostic testing. The failure mileage was 35,000 and current mileage was 37,507.
When the vehicle was started the brake pedal went to the floor when tapped. The consumer also stated when the brakes were applied the vehicle shook. The consumer had a new master cylinder, ten sets of rotars and pads installed and the problem continued.

Brake pedal will fade out and not hold, consumer has to pump brake to get vehicle to stop, took vehicle to dealer and the master cylinder was replaced however, the same day problem reoccurred, while on the highway consumer stepped on brakes and pedal went to the floor, consumer had to pump brakes again. Consumer states brakes needs to be pumped while driving on the highway, consumer was informed by a Ford specialist that the fade was normal for this vehicle,also the mass airflow sensor was replaced, the windshield wipers/washers were replaced,the windshield was also replaced, and the engine head gaskets were replaced.
