4 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 06/11/2021

When braking to stop there was sudden acceleration that braking could not control resulting in hitting the rear of a stopped car in front of me. This has happened in the past with no warning. It usually happens when braking, but not always. I have had the car to a Ford dealership twice with this problem. They claim they can find nothing wrong with the car. I took it into them today after this incident. They would not even look at the car. Said that Ford had no bulletins on this and said that I was on mu own. I see online that there has been a class action lawsuit against Ford about this. This could be a life-threatening problem. What do I do?.

5 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 02/09/2021

While driving my vehicle at approximately 45 mph on a local highway, there was an uncommanded movement of the foot pedal adjustment. The pedals retracted away from my feet to the maximum stop furthest away, which put them out of my reach and rendered it nearly impossible to activate the brakes or accelerator pedals. This nearly caused a loss of control accident, had I not disengaged my seat belt and slid forward under the dash to reach the pedals to stop the vehicle. I was subsequently able to use the control switch to move the pedals back into position.

Assisting a friend with this. The left rear axle has broken and damaged the brakes and abs sensor. He had driven the vehicle to work and parked it. After his shift ended, he started the vehicle, shifted into gear and found the vehicle would not move & was making noise. He had it towed to his house and asked me to diagnose the cause. 18 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 04/01/2016

I just purchased a used 2005 Lincoln. The 1st day of/during driving it, I had the same problem when moving my right foot onto the brake pedal to stop. Doing so, 3 different times, the vehicle leapt forward. (I've heard of this happening in the past to older folks driving into buildings. ) I have come to be aware that when moving the right foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal via rolling on the heel of your foot, that the right outter edge of your shoe-sole contacts the accelerator at the same time when applying the brake pedal to slow or stop the vehicle. 23 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 09/03/2014

I had just purchased this vehicle and was driving it home from the car dealership. While pressing on the brake pedal with my right foot to stop at a traffic light, the brake pedal went down so far that my right foot began to also press on the accelerator pedal while that same foot was still on the brake pedal. As my right foot was then pressing on both pedals (brake and accelerator), the car began to accelerate towards the intersection being controlled by the traffic light and towards another car that had stopped at the traffic light. To avoid plowing into the back of the stopped vehicle, I shifted the gear shift from "d" (drive) to the neutral position and then my car suddenly stopped just before plowing into the back of the stopped vehicle. At the time of this incident I did not realize what caused this, but I was able to reproduce this series of events within a hour afterwards.

26 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

On the 2006 Lincoln Town Car signature limited, the accelerator and brake pedals are adjustable. The pedals are close together, therefore, leaving little space between the brake and accelerator. When trying to stop, the brake and, unfortunately, accelerator pedals were both being pressed at the same time. This has almost caused accidents when trying to stop for my spouse and me. This has been a problem since the car was purchased in Feb 2006. The vehicle was not diagnosed or serviced. On June 3, 2014, I was leaving my driveway and saw a tractor-trailer coming down the road. Trying to stop, I pressed the brake and accelerator pedals at the same time. I pressed on the brake harder to stop; however, I was also pressing on the accelerator harder. This caused a terrible accident between the tractor-trailer and me. I was air lifted to a trauma center. The truck driver was also injured. My vehicle was totaled. I consider the adjustable pedals a very dangerous problem and the owners of of the 2006 Lincoln Town Car signature limited with adjustable pedals should be made aware of this danger.

Within the past six months the Town Car will suddenly try to accelerate, (or the engine will run up to the redline on the tachometer. ) it will literally spin the back tires while both the drivers feet are on the brake pedal. We are contacting the dealer this week. This is getting more and more often.

30 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 08/22/2013

I was nearly stopped at a 4-way intersection, foot lightly on the brake, when the car lunged forward and I heard a noise as if I were pressing the accelerator and giving the car gas. I pressed the brakes hard and the car slowed but did not stop promptly (as if brakes were not working well). This was an unexplained acceleration, and dangerous. If the car had not finally stopped, I would have been in the middle of a busy intersection, with one of my precious grandchildren in the back seat. So dangerous. It happened again to me this a. M. When I was stopping at a stop sign. Brief acceleration. And I am positive I was not pressing the accelerator. Calling my dealer today. I am afraid to drive the car now.

31 Service Brakes problem of the 2000 Lincoln Town Car

Driver was only slightly hurt on the lower arms which hit against the steering wheel.

32 Service Brakes problem of the 2006 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 11/20/2012

While driving the car I was approaching a stopped vehicle at a stop light ahead of me. When I applied the brakes there was what seemed like a surge of power and I put both feet on the brake pedal and it was not going to stop. I bumped the vehicle in front of me quite hard but there was no damage but the driver was quite upset and I do not blame them. On the second occasion my wife was driving the vehicle and when she went to stop an intersection she said the brakes did not do anything and she felt that the engine was getting gas causing it to accelerate and she went right through the intersection. She said that it was a good thing there were no vehicles coming through the intersection or she would have been in an accident. The third incident happened last month when I was in a parking lot and I was pulling up to the curb when I applied the brakes. Again there was a surge of power. I took my foot off the brake pedal and reapplied the brakes and then they engaged but by then I had jumped over the curb. I have discussed this incident with the service manager at the Lincoln dealership in dade city florida and with the service manager at the Lincoln dealership in greenville michigan when I took my car today for a recall that I received in the mail about problems with the steering system and rust. I was told today that there has been no recall on brake issues and there was nothing wrong with the brakes at this time. This is our michigan car now and we are in michigan from may to November. We will be going to florida on November 18, 2013.

34 Service Brakes problem of the 2005 Lincoln Town Car

Failure Date: 03/03/2012

I have a 2005 Lincoln Town Car, signature series, that on the same day on two occasions while going slow and lightly braking the car suddenly accelerated. My foot was not anywhere close to the gas pedal. This has never happened before and not in the last two weeks. I went up on the net and found many other people had reported the exact same problem with that exact year and model Lincoln. A number of which went to their local Ford dealer only to find them to say we checked it out thoroughly and found nothing wrong. I expect this could very well happen again and create a very serious accident. I just want to go on record as having reported this incident to as many places as possible so that in the event it causes an accident in the future I have some recourse if they say it was only drivers error. I may send this to ntsb, consumers guide, and insurance safety board and others in hopes of getting some answer other than , could not duplicate problem. Thank you.
