Mazda CX9 owners have reported 5 problems related to brake light on (under the service brakes category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I wanted to say it happened to us while we were driving back from a daytrip on Saturday. We had our kids in the car and my husband was driving. All of a sudden the scbs light came on and the car just stopped giving gas. The car behind us couldn't tell we were slowing down because there was no brake light. We were almost rear ended. The car behind us couldn't stop in enough time so they just swerved onto the other side of us. We had to pull the car over and it was almost nighttime. My husband ended up pushing the car to get it off the road and to a safe place. It would only go 2 miles per hour. I had my car towed to the dealership, I have not heard anything from them except they are continuing to look into it. It's a 2018 Mazda Cx9 with only 26000 miles. It's never been in an accident. I'm hoping that whatever the fix is, it's covered under warranty. If it was a truck or bus behind us, they would not have been able to stop either. If we were on a highway and this happened, there is no doubt it would have caused an accident.

I have a problem with the brake light switch. It works for awhile and then stops working. When I press the brake pedal the brake light may or my not come on and that is while sitting still or while the car is moving. I have replaced the switch several times.

Brakes prematurely failed after feeling numb and squishy. Upon diagnostic by a local mechanic, it was determined that the brake master cylinder had a leak. In addition, the abs, traction control and emergency brake lights came on when the symptoms were present. Estimated cost of repair $1250.

Vehicle brakes lighting dim while coming to a stop and can not be seen from other vehicles approaching from behind on the road. When not replaced, stop light will run continually or not function, potentially causing premature bulb failure, safety issues and/or the transmission will not shift out of park. A failed stoplight switch will prevent the brake light from illuminating when the brake pedal is applied that may cause a collision and a life lost.
