1 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2013 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 03/07/2021

The power steering and power breaking suddenly failed while traveling at about 40mph. The check engine light had gone on a few minutes before the car had this incident. With considerable force on the brake I was able to get the car to the side of the road. It was towed to a garage where they told me a water line had broke resulting in the engine becoming suddenly filled with coolant.

2 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2014 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 06/10/2018

I was slowly approaching a stop light when our 2014 Mazda cx-9 started having vibrations, which at first came from underneath, between the driver's row and the 2nd row passenger. It immediately felt as if the car's engine was about to fail. I managed to make that right turn, carefully stepping on the brakes, and crossed a rail-road crossing. The car was running at a speed of 20 mph. I slowed down to make another right turn towards my destination, then the engine abruptly died. The battery and check engine lights suddenly lit up on the dashboard. From the intersection's stop light to the location where the engine failed, it was a distance of approximately 0. 5 mile. My wife came and picked up our 3 children from the corner of the street. My brother-in-law came to my location with jumper cables and gave my engine's battery a jump-start. The engine started but the vibrations were stronger. The car ran for another 0. 3 mile before it died again. I had the car towed to the Mazda dealership from where I purchased the car. After 1 day I was told that the incident was possibly due to a bad tank of gas. Another day later, I was told that something else was wrong with the engine, and that it was unrelated to the earlier suspicion of bad gas. After 5 business days, I was told that the engine's cylinder 6 needs a new cylinder head. The other option was a complete engine overhaul. The car has never been in an accident, and has approximately 81,000 mileage. The estimated cost for repairs was $5,834. This is a very serious safety issue that warrants an investigation. Had the car experienced engine failure on a busy interstate, my family and others could've been seriously injured or even killed.

3 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2012 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 10/03/2017

Multiple trips to the dealership and an independent mechanic and the check engine light (cel) comes on with a diagnosis of evaporating system / loose gas cap. Multiple diagnostics fees, a gas tank pressure test and 3 gas caps later and the problem has not been fixed. I noticed a few online forums with several others complaining of the same issue across a wide rage of years and Mazda models. There is a design problem with mazada evaporating, fuel and emissions systems. The dealer cannot identify the problem. Beyond replacing the gas cap and collecting a diagnostic fee.

4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 10/03/2016

After recently receiving our vehicle back from a Mazda dealer for warranty repairs on the ptu and control arms, we were driving down the highway at 65 mph - initially going up a hill in the mountains. The car would not shift gears (an automatic) and then would not accelerate past 30 mph. No dummy lights lit whatsoever. We got to the top of the hill and having no place to pull off on the highway mountain shoulder, stayed in the lane of traffic with our hazards on. The down side of the hill was a 6% grade with a cliff on the other side of the guard rails. All of a sudden - the power steering went out and the car was hard to steer. There was still no place to pull over on the mountain highway, so we coasted. We then noticed the rpm's were at 0 and all the dummy lights that are on when the car ignition is in accessory were lit up. The car had turned off - while we were going 65 mph on a 6% grade. No warning - no sounds, smoke, dummy lights - just off. Very amazingly dangerous. We were very lucky to not die a fiery death. My husband was able to keep calm and thankfully the brakes worked - we were able to stop towards the bottom of the hill. We had the car towed as it wouldn't start/stay running. The diagnosis by the dealer (not the dealer who did the prior warranty work) was a failed engine rod. Would have been nice to get a check engine light before having the car completely shut off. We drove the vehicle for less than 100 miles after receiving back from the warranty work and now this.

5 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Mazda CX9

Failure Date: 05/09/2014

I purchased a used 2009 Mazda cx-7 in June 2012. In may 2014 my check engine light came on. I took the car to the nearest auto service station which was not a Mazda dealership and the engine stopped when they tried to turn it on. I had the car towed to a Mazda dealership and had a quote of $8,000 because I was told I needed a new engine. I purchased a 5 year/100,000miles warranty with american guardian in 2012 when I purchased the car. I filed a claim with american guardian and was told that the engine fail from lack of oil. I presented all my oil change receipts which I had changed every 3 or 4 months over the last 2 years. The auto service company also sent out their insurance inspector to inspect the car to see what caused the engine to fail and if they would be liable. Their report stated that the timing chain jumped which cause the "cam shaft retard" code. The mechanic did show this code to me on their computer before the car was towed to Mazda. I reached out to Mazda USA and they concluded that they agreed with american guardian and cannot help me. Now I'm left with an $8,000 bill that no one wants to cover.
