1 Starter problem of the 2016 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 07/30/2020

I was braking to a stop after decellerating, driving originally about 45 mph. Traffic was stopped in front of me. I was in motion on a highway, going straight ahead. My car slowed but resisted stopping. I pressed on the brake pedal harder until I came to a complete stop. My right foot was entirely on the brake, as I only use my right foot to operate the pedals. The engine was revving like it was accellerating. The car was in drive. No warning lights came on the dash. The engine continued to rev higher in intensity. I put the car into park, and the engine revved much higher. I pushed the start/stop button to turn off the car. The warning lights came on the dash. I was able to roll down the power window even though the car was turned off. I tried to restart the car after about a minute. The starter engaged, but the car did not start. I tried twice again and it did the same thing. I tried a fourth time and it reacted as if the battery was almost dead, some sound but no movement. I couldn't put the car in neutral to have the attending police officer push it out of the lane of traffic, and we noticed the emergency brake was engaged. I did not engage the emergency brake myself! my husband arrived, and he and the officer were able to put the car in neutral, however, they were unable to disengage the emergency brake. The car had to be loaded onto a roll-off wrecker to be taken to the dealership.

2 Starter problem of the 2004 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 03/14/2016

The contact owns a 2004 Mazda 6. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and the battery was replaced, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the oil needed to be changed and the starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. After the vehicle was serviced and while driving at an unknown speed, an abnormal sound emitted from under the hood and the check oil warning light illuminated and the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that there was metal fragments in the oil and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 115,000.

3 Starter problem of the 2010 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 07/22/2012

My car was parked, went inside store for a minute, came out and it wouldn't start. No lights prior, and I take meticulous care of my car. After a failed jump, tow was issued. The mechanic says it's a starter failure- at 42,000 miles on a brand new factory line car. Now Mazda will not respond to complaints, and attempts at reaching any supervisors have been negated. Car has been immobile for over two weeks. 42,000 is a premature failure for a brand new factory part- and the car company should pay to replace a defective portion of the vehicle.

4 Starter problem of the 2008 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 09/29/2008

2008 Mazda 6 with less than 5000 miles. Starter caught on fire, dealer said rodent chewed wire. Not a warranty issue. My insurance had to pay. Pictures taken and my agent insured me when he filed with Mazda they would take care of this. Today 11/11/08 claim denied Mazda said its not their fault. What ever happened to customer service.

6 Starter problem of the 2003 Mazda MAZDA6

Failure Date: 09/01/2004

The clutch has begun to fail. The dealer indicated that it would be five months before one became available. The clutch, starter, cd changer, and panel cover were defective. There was rust on the door sashes. There was a smell from the exhaust that entered the vehicle, there were vibrations and rattles in the door, which had been adjusted. There were problems with the master cylinder and the leaking fuel sender unit in the gas tank. The starter would grind and the clutch shuddered.
