Failure Date: 02/05/2013
On 9/2012, received recall notice 04v-583, took to Mazda service, they stated recall part was taken care of. 2-5-2013 exiting freeway, at idle, vehicle rpm was stuck at 2, tried putting in park, rpms went up to 4. . Terrifying incident. Almost hit vehicles in front of me and thought the engine was going to blow up. Took to Ford dealership where Tribute was purchased which was 5 minutes away. They informed me later that day throttle body electrical. Not covered under my warranty. $500 out of pocket. They are working on vehicle and keeping one more night to test it. I contacted Mazda to ask about refund since the 2012 recall fix was completed and this is happening one year later. Mazda corporate representative stated they are opening file and contacting dealership working on Tribute.

I have found that my gas pedal won't depress in cold weather. The first time this happened was a few weeks after I bought the car in 2009. The said it's cold and the car just needs to warm up. This problem has continued to happen year after year, but never for any length of time. However this morning, as I was driving to work the pedal would no longer depress as I was going down the road. Eventually I coasted to a red light and I frantically stepped on the pedal to no avail. I was able to turn on my hazard lights and somehow coast into a parking lot. I continued to let the car sit and warm up for another 10-12 minutes, when I was finally able to rev the engine. Believing that the problem was solved I backed out of my parking sort and again tried to drive forward, however the pedal still would not depress. After sitting another 10 minutes, I was finally able to press the pedal hard enough for it to depress. I ended up needing one of my CO-workers to follow me to work in case it happened again; which is did after 3-4 more times on my 10 minute drive to work. Please look into this issue.

On December 1, 2012 while driving at 58mph around 345pm on the expressway, my foot was on the accelerator with steady pressure, the car began to slow down. I realized that the car was not maintaining speed. I tried to press down on the accelerator pedal but it did not move. I was able to pull to the side of the road. I then tried with all the force of my leg to press down on the accelerator but with no avail. I tried lifting the pedal with my foot several times and suddenly the pedal freed up. This was on a sunny day, temperature around 60 . I have had this happen several times before on cold mornings on the way to work over the last few years but thought the car was cold and the car had not a chance to warm up. In 2010 I filed a complaint. No response. But this time I was truly afraid of getting in a bad car accident and injuring others. I have researched this vehicle and there does not appear to be any recalls for this model. On Monday I plan to contact Mazda for help before someone gets hurt. I urge you to look more into this make/model year.

When driving in cold weather, the accelerator will not press down. If you stop at a red light or slow down for traffic and try to accelerate, you can't press the accelerator down to get speed. It is stuck and won't press down. You have to keep pressing on it hard which results in the car taking off real fast and jerking everyone in it or causing traffic behind you to run into you because your vehicle will not accelerate. I've been reporting this problem since I've had this automobile in 2005. There are several hundred complaints on the internet with the same problem. I guess someone will have to be killed or seriously injured before something is done.

First let me please advise that there was no incident regarding my vehicle. I am writing to try to get information about a potential recurring problem that was first reported and recalled with the 2002 and the 2003 / recall 63202. I have a 2005 Mazda Tribute and was just advised by the service department of irwin Mazda in freehold new jersey that my car will need to have the brake booster and the master cylinder replaced. I know my car is a 2005 and the recall pertained to the 2002 and 2003 models, but I feel that this is an issue that is recurring and is not being addressed. I contacted Mazda corporate and spoke to the supervisor mr. Johhny garcia and I voiced my concerns, and I was dismissed by him stating that there was nothing he can or will do to escalate my concerns to a higher level of management at Mazda corporate. The number I called was 949-727-1990. I am not sure how this works but I am truly concerned with this issue. There might be more consumers like me out there that had this issue with their car and was dismissed also. Not only is this a safety concern, but the cost to replace this could be in the thousands. Can you please reach out to Mazda regarding my concerns, since [xxx] refused to help me escalate my call. Thank you so much for your help. [xxx] please advise on how you think I should proceed, or if you can look into this potential recurring problem with the brake booster and master cylinder. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

Vehicle Speed Control problem of the 2008 Mazda Tribute

Failure Date: 04/20/2012
As others have reported, I could not depress the accelerator. It was stuck. This happened about 3 times during a drive cross country. It really wasn't that cold - in the 40s or 50s. No matter how hard I pressed (while the car was running and in neutral), it wouldn't go down. Finally after trying it a number of times, I could depress the accelerator and drive. This is very dangerous, as one is trying to turn into traffic and nothing happens other than rolling forward since there is no acceleration. This should be a major recall to repair this issue!!!!.

Gas pedal would not compress, stuck for several minutes in the upright position. Could not accelerate onto the highway. Had to coast slowly onto shoulder of the onramp in heavy traffic. Turning the car off and back on did not fix the problem. Tried for several minutes to compress, finally it became unstuck on its own. Happened again approaching train tracks, got stuck on the tracks with no acceleration, luckily it was only for a few seconds this time. Very unsafe.

Tribute gas pedal is locking (sticking) and unable to be pressed. This problem has occurred several times lately the latest being this morning while taking my child to school trying to go up a hill I was unable to press the gas pedal which I had to abruptly pull over nearly causing an accident and scaring my child and myself. This is occurring more frequently and thus becoming more hazardous. Something needs to be done to correct this problem, it going to cause a serious accident or fatality.

I have several problems with my Mazda Tribute 4 cylinder 2wd. The #1 problem is that the gas peddle freezes especially when it's cold outside. I try to press down on it and it doesn't move. I have to do this a couple of times before it starts working and then I have to be careful that I don't go shooting across the rode. I was told this could be carbon buildup by the dealers serviceman. I also have to put air in the tires every week when it's cold and every other week when it's not. I had a tire pressure valve leak in one of the tires and now I think I have another. My vehicle has 54440 miles on it and the further it has been driven is 36 miles. It is used for local driving only as I would be afraid to drive it any further than that. I also need front stabilizer links. I just replaced the battery but now when I try to start the vehicle, everything lights up but it doesn't start or make any sound when I turn the key. I have to try this several times before it finally starts. I bought this vehicle new and I have all these problems. The front wheel drive is worthless, I slide all over the place and fish tail backing up in my driveway. These problems are several times a day and I don't have the money to keep fixing these problems because this vehicle should not be having these problems. I was told that the tires may need the rims cleaned to help with the tire pressure light coming on. Of course my warranty is expired as is my roadside assistance. I wouldn't buy another Mazda Tribute or recommend it to anyone. And since when does it cost $600 plus for a tune up?.

My 2005 Tribute has had gas pedal problems in the past. It was serviced for this in 2008 however when the weather is cold the gas pedal is still stiff and I have to stomp on it to get it to go. Yesterday however was a different story. I headed to work with my baby in the car. About 3 miles down the road on a hwy going 60 mph I let off the gas to slow down and my car did not slow! I stomped the break and it hardly made a difference. I went for 3 or 4 miles not pressing the gas and continued to fly down the road at 60 mph! I tried to kick the gas and it didn't help. I finally took both of my feet and stood on the break while trying not to get rear ended and pulled off on the exit ramp still going 15-20 mph! I had to turn the key off to get my car to stop! my husband was near by and said that my car was idling at 3rpms! if this had happened in different circumstances. . . . I don't even want to think about that! please pay attention to all of the same complaints on this website! if this had been addressed earlier my baby and I would not have had to go threw that! does someone have to die before anyone does anything?.

Accelerator pedal on 2005 Mazda Tribute sticks in the up (non-accelerating) position. Takes a significant amount of force to accelerate, causing car to spin tires and jerk forward. Usually occurs in cold and wet weather, but has occurred during warm weather as well.

When cold, gas pedal will not depress. Becomes firm and resistant to pressure. Have to slam on pedal, but receive no power from engine---happens alot when trying to turn corners, will not accelerate- can cause severe if not fatal accident if this occurs at the wrong time. Please force Mazda to issue recall for this part, could be related to throttle body as well.

The 2005 Mazda Tribute freezes the accelerator often, especially in winter. The pedal freezes while the vehicle is in motion and when the leg from the accelerator pedal is removed and wants to accelerate the vehicle again. Sometimes it is little hard to push the accelerator (the accelerator resists) when the vehicle in motion.

I own a 2005 Mazda Tribute. When proceeding from a stop, the accelerator pedal will not depress. I have to coast to the side of the road. No matter how hard I stomped on the accelerator, it would not depress. This happens all the time especially in cold weather. I see where there was a recall for the same problem on 2004 models. Please issue a recall on the 2005 to prevent accidents and possible death.

Failure Date: 01/30/2010
I was driving a 2004 Mazda Tribute for about 45 minutes on the expressway in 10 deg. F temperatures with the speed control on and set to 70 mph. When I approached the exit ramp I pressed the speed control off button but noticed that the vehicle was not slowing down. I then tapped the brakes while going up the exit ramp. Still the vehicle was not slowing down. I was able to stop the vehicle at the stop light and placed the transmission in neutral. The engine revved up to 4500rpm. I turned the key completely off then restarted the engine. Again it revved up to 4500rpm. I turned it off and restarted again. Still the engine ran up to 4500rpm in neutral. The light turned green so I carefully put the transmission in drive and drove with my foot on the brake to a nearby parking lot. I stopped and turned off the engine for several minutes. I could tell by the smell that the brakes were hot. This time when I restarted the engine it revved up to about 3000 then slowly came down to normal idle speed. I drove it the rest of my trip without any trouble but did not use the speed control. The check engine light did come on as a result of this episode.

I have a 2006 v4 Mazda Tribute. About 3 out of 5 times when I go to push the gas the pedal will get stuck, I have to then press very hardly on the gas and it will just take off very fast. If I was to ever need to move my car up just a tiny bit it could cause a huge issue. There is nothing I can really do to correct it, I've looked on the internet and seen other people having the same problems.
