The electronic steering wheel lock went out causing the car to not start. Upon checking the internet to see if anyone else was having this problem I found that it was a problem many Mercedes Benz owners have had and it's an expensive one. It's not just with my particular model and it's not limited to older models of the brand either.

The problem is that the steering wheel locking mechanism has failed. The vehicle could not be started or driven. It required a flatbed tow to an authorized mercedes repair facility. It was diagnosed as the steering mechanism, requiring replacement. The cost for this repair is $1400. 00. I researched this problem on the mb website and it stated that this issue was common. I feel that this is a safety issue and should be repaired free of charge or at a significant discount. The car is currently being repaired, and I can forward any relevant documentation to you once the repair is complete.

I drove vehicle to publix with no problems. When I tried to start vehicle, key turns but car does not start. There is no cranking sound. I called a mechanic friend and after extensive diagnosis he determined it was the esl module which controls the steering. Fortunately I was not driving the vehicle when the esl module failed. There is a recall on Mercedes Benz C300 from 2012-2017 for the esl module problems but the 2011 is not included. It should be recalled since it is a safety hazard and it appears others have had similar problems according to comments on google. I have a handicapped wife I take care of and having issues with the steering can cause accidents and injuries. There were no messages or symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. There needs to be a recall or further inspection done on the 2011 Mercedes Benz C300. Car will be towed to a Mercedes Benz dealership for diagnostics.
When I was driving down the road my car got a message on the dash that said power steering malfunction see owners manual. My steering wheel got locked up and tight it was hard to keep control of my car at 60 miles per hour. When I took it to the repair shop, I asked about the repair and if my VIN had a recall and when I looked up the production date of my car it's 2 numbers off the VIN numbers that were recalled for your. Same issue with hat happened in 2016 when my car was produced in 2015, it says the same thing. It will cost like 5k to fix the problem due to the fact that its a sensor, and when I looked up the recall it was the same sensor that the recall was on with my VIN only being 2 numbers off I find it odd that my car is not affected by this bc its the same problem of the recall the part of that controls the power steering in the car.

Power steering malfunction car unable to drive I believe there is supposed to be a recall for this issue but not popping up when I put in VIN number warning lamps come up. Sometimes every light on dashboard. Took it to mercedes but it was when code was not popping up and they said I needed a new battery. Did that but still an issue. Has also happened when driving. Sometimes collision assist plus light comes on and power steering acts up. Light I am pointing at in picture is another light that consistently pops up I have been able to intermittently fix problem by resetting computer by unplugging battery for 15min or longer. As well as confirming full service on vehicle. Now it isn’t working though.

On [xxx] the car refused to start due to the electronic steering lock failure. The car was towed to the nearest Mercedes Benz dealer at stevens creek blvd, san jose CA 95129. An inspection was done and Mercedes Benz wanted $3457. 66 to replace the steering lock. This item is a recall item in other years of the C300 Mercedes Benz. Google shows: mercedes-benz has issued a recall for the mercedes- benz c-class models, including the C300, due to potential steering lock issues. The recall specifically affects 2015- 2016 C300 models, as well as other c-class variations like the 2017-2019 C300 cabrio and coupe. The recall is due to a potential problem with the electronic steering lock (esl) module, which is responsible for locking and unlocking the steering wheel. A faulty esl module can prevent the steering wheel from unlocking, causing the vehicle to be unable to start. We feel that the recall should also apply to the C300 2008 model as it is exactly the same issue and completely incapacitates the car and is a danger to the public as involves the electronic steering. To whom it may concern, I am seeking assistance regarding my 2014 mercedes-benz c-300, VIN [xxx] . I repurchased this vehicle from the london Nissan dealership on [xxx]. It currently has about 120,000 miles, and I have driven an additional 15,000 miles in the past two years. Less than three months after purchase, I took the car to a mercedes-benz dealership in knoxville, TN, for repairs on may 16th. Now, my vehicle is at james motor company in lexington, ky, where they diagnosed a faulty steering column that needs replacement at a cost of $1,630. 00. I have already taken this car to the dealership twice for issues in under two years. The problems began when the vehicle wouldn’t start one morning; the steering column was locked despite a fully charged battery. This failure could have led to a serious accident, especially since I drive frequently for work and school. There were no warning signs prior to this incident. The dealership has confirmed the steering column issue and can provide inspection upon request. I also have a list of parts needed for the repair available. Given the nature of this malfunction, I believe it warrants a recall. Thank you for your attention to this serious matter. I look forward to your prompt response. Esl failed suddenly. This appears to be a common problem with C300 mb. As such it should be part and f a recall as the expense to replace is over $2000.
The contact owns a 2016 mercedes-benz C300. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driving assist and another unknown warning light were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the turn signal and steering wheel modules needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The esl is going out and is causing the car to not detect the key.
It's the esl electric steering lock this part is known to be defective and is posted online to fix and also bypass it. I am not a mechanic so I am told part alone is $570 at mercedes they have to program it. This part is know to break and only they can reprogram it. This should be a safty issue. The car rtdoes not start because of it and it locks the steering wheel in place. The code for it on car is a25464 code on car. This is a known problem and it makes the car undrivable. I don't have files but had car toed 2 times. I will have recept after it's fixed.

The esl or electronic steering lock is a very common issue with this year and model at around the 70k mile mark. You cannot start the car once this goes out and it’s over $2k to fix.
I drove my car to get lunch. Came back out to go back to work and the car would not start. Would not even turn over. My radio did not turn on and I couldn't even roll my windows back up. Luckily they were only cracked open a small amount. My steering wheel cannot be turned, it's locked in it's current position. I am told the esl (electronic steering lock) and possibly the eis is the cause of this problem. The display on the dash says "take your key from ignition" and that is all I get. Had to have my car towed and now I have a dead car with the windows partially open that I cannot close.

While I was driving my car the driver side airbag abruptly deployed. The airbag inadvertently deployed; the car did not crash into anything to cause the airbag to deploy. When the airbag erupted it caused injury to my head, face, hand, arm and wrist. I believe the airbag is defective because I have lacerations on my face possibly due to sharp objects ejecting from the airbag and the impact as well as excessive smoke and fumes emitted after the fact. I believe there might be a manufacturing defect in the airbag because it seemed as if it exploded with excessive force causing harm to myself as well as inadvertent eruption. There have been some recalls issued on the motor vehicle and I did take the vehicle to the mercedes car dealership to get all of the recalls repaired, however this incident occurred after the repairs were made at the dealership.
I purchased my vehicle from the Mercedes Benz dealership and received a recall letter in the mail stating that driver side deployment may occur. After receiving notice I brought the car to the dealership to get the recall repaired. I've been driving around with a false sense of security believing that this issue was repaired. However, recently, while I was driving the driver side airbag unexpectedly and abruptly deployed and injured me. This is a major safety concern and car owners should be notified and made aware that the issue can still occur after the recall was repaired. I contacted Mercedes Benz and they did not issue any additional notices to inform customers of possible recall issue reoccurring due to manufacturer defects even after the repair was made. Additionally, I believe the driver side takata airbag/inflators may have also been defective because of the injuries I incurred from the forceful explosive eruption of the airbag. Mbusa campaign number 2017120024 NHTSA recall number 17v627 recall start date January 18, 2018 recall reported date October 16, 2017 component(s) 1709p46c62 daimler ag (dag), the manufacturer of mercedes-benz vehicles, has determined that certain my12-17 c-class, e-class, e-class coupe vehicles (204, 207, 212 platform) have insufficient electrical grounding in the steering column components. In rare instances, if the steering column module is exposed to an electrostatic discharge, and if the steering column module clock spring is broken (due to wear), this could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver airbag. An inadvertent driver airbag deployment may cause a risk of injury to the driver and might increase the risk of a potential crash. A broken clock spring will illuminate the srs warning light as well as display a warning message in the instrument cluster. An authorized mercedes-benz dealer will install a sufficient ground to the steering column, and a protective ring to the steering column module.
I had to pull over in the emergency lane to take a very important phone call! turned off the car and removed key! upon trying to crank car back up the eis (electronic ignition switch) failed and the car wouldn’t start back up! this is absolutely dangerous considering the car has less than 100,000 miles on it! this is a known problem with mercedes and should be recalled! this is going to kill someone if this continues to go unresolved! mercedes charges 1,000s of dollars to repair something that is happening with w204 generation year of the car!.
The entire rear subframe of any w205 body model including but not limited to the c class from 2009-2014, cl class, sl, class etc. Suffers admittedly from mb USA, premature rust, deterioration etc. There is an active recall for these same models in canada and all of europe but not the USA. My garage kept 2009 C300 has suffered extensive rear end damage from a factory defect that mercedes refuses to recognize in the continental u. S. But will admit the same issues occurred in the eu and canada. Keeler mercedes, USA, of colonie new york, stated they completed my subframe repair under the mb rear subframe extended warranty. The vehicle was driven home and inspected only to find out keeler mercedes of NY did not replace this crucial safety component under mb-USA extended warranty issued for this defect. This is pure negligence. When asked why the subframe wasn’t replaced as the work order stated it did, they stated “a mix up in paper work” I believe mercedes-benz USA and keeler mercedes of new york conspired together to push this massive safety defect aside and lie about completing the work in fear of the payment from warranty not being worth the labor hours required by the technicians. This oversight could have been a multi million dollar lawsuit if any injury was sustained after said repairs were done in belief the vehicle was safe to drive. Keeler mercedes’ has also had this vehicle in their possession from June 14th 2024, to todays date, July 5th 2024 with no word on when repairs to subframe will be completed. Subframe replacement stated on mb website states it is an 8 hour labor job. We’re on day 18 now. Major safety issue and shady dealing by dealership.
The car is not starting. No dashboard no lights no window function no seat function no radio. Nothing. Ignition lights are not turning on and the car is dead. Car batteries were newly replaced but understand this could be eis and steering lock issues which is common in Mercedes Benz models. Why is manufacturer not compensating / correcting for common errors on his models?.
My car is a 2015 Mercedes Benz, I bought it at the agency in 2022. When I tested the vehicle at the agency, I noticed the steering was a little hard. I asked the sales person and he told me it was normal. Then, after 1 year and 5 months, it was on its way. I went to work and the steering wheel jammed and it wouldn't cross and the car turned off then it didn't want to start and it said the following on the dashboard power stering see operator manual.
The contact owns a 2016 mercedes-benz C300. The contact stated that while driving at various highway speeds, the message "check power steering" was displayed, and the steering wheel became stiff and very difficult to turn in either direction. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 18v850000 (steering). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 96,000.
Electronic power steering failed. The electronic power steering on this vehicle has failed several times, making it almost impossible to steer. When this occurs, steering requires a tremendous amount of force and puts the vehicle and driver at enormous risk of an accident.
The contact owns a 2016 mercedes-benz C300w. The contact stated that when the vehicle was started, the power steering warning light illuminated and the power steering seized. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
