The electronic steering lock failed while in the parked position. A tiny motor inside has burned up and it now prevents you from starting the vehicle. The dealership will not sell me a replacement to repair on my own and I must take it in to them for repair at a cost of over $1800. 00. This is a very common defect failure in this series of 2008 to 2014 Mercedes Benz. I have a 2005 mercedes which does not have this problem with the unit and is operating correctly after 15 years.

Steering wheel lock after vehicle is shut down. When you return to the vehicle insert the key the instrument cluster, speedo, steering wheel is unresponsive which will not allow you to turn the engine. This should be a recall it's a electronic steering lock that fails on several Mercedes Benz causing the owner to tow the vehicle to the dealership for a 2,000 dollar repair. It happens several times before it completely fails.

My 2010 mercedes C300 has a faulty electronic steering lock fail-which left me stranded sitting in the park lot about 30 minutes from home. Car would not start I tried to start my car and nothing happens. When I turn the key to on nothing lights up, no crank, no clicks, no windows and no radio. I mean really we pay to have a quality car and so far my mb has had a stinky ac that mb could never figure out how fix, taillight recall, found oil leaking from oil centerfuge cover that cost $199. 62 but yet it still leaks oil. , currently waiting for the takata airbag inflator recall from April 2016 and today is Dec. 2016. Very disappointed in mercedes and will not be purchase again nor will I recommend to anyone. Even the service at the dealership has gone down. Quality and customer service is not what it use to be.

Electronic steering lock fail car won't turn on.

My car just left me stranded (at home of all places). I had been having issues that day with the whining noise many have dealt with. I got home from work, and went to take the car out later with my husband, and she's dead. Roadside assistance towed her to the dealership. So far, $1450 just to replace the steering wheel lock, then they can start to investigate the whining sound. Service advisor says the 2 aren't connected and its a coincidence both the whining and steering lock failure are happening simultaneously???? please force a recall, so we can recoup this money. Mb is making a ton off of the problem. What if I had been stranded in traffic, or with my children in the car? this is a terrible safety issue, and needs to be addressed by mbusa.

My m. B. 2009 has only 52690 miles, rarely driving. On may 28th, 2016, my wife drove the car to see her cousin, when got out at 10:00pm, car was not starting, battery was ok, light on, radio on, windows not on. Needed to wait until Monday morning, towed to dealer: eis steering lock failed, cost $1121. 88 for the eis. Service consultant advised many m. B has the same failure. Go to NHTSA, saw a lot of complaint with the same problem. Please investigate the incident and issue a recall with m. B. , it's very unsafe for driving because it can happened any time, mostly night time with a female driver. Only m. B. Can repair the eis and it's very expensive.

2010 mercedes C300 has 57000 miles. Drove it 2 miles in the morning to get gonto an appt and the the car would not start. . . Steering lock failed. 10 cent motor will not lock steering wheel. Causes car to think it is stolen, disables the entire car. Left me stranded in freezing temperature with no warning. I got gas, got in the car to leave to work, and nothing worked. This is very dangerous. Luckily I was able to get someone to pick me up, as my cell phone was about to die.

Contacted Mercedes Benz as vehicle only had 52,000 miles and mercedes customer relations stated this was not the first time they had heard of this. They gave $200. 00 toward the $1100. 00 repair. I asked if this could of happened while I was driving and he stated he never heard of that but did not guarentee it was not possible. If this had happened while driving the wheel would have locked and I would not have been able to steer.

I have been driving my C300 for the last 3-4 years and have multiple issues ranging from steering pump failure to condensor issues and lighting issues including a recall for the tail lights. Yesterday after having parked my car for almost 4 days since I commute for work and take train, upon starting the vehicle there was no ignition. I could see the lights inside the car including the speedometer was visible and I can activate the locks with key, but engine would not start. Car is standing in park position so I cannot even move it to neutral. I called mbenz road side assistance and they diagnosed it is related to steering lock. Now that I got it towed, checked with mecedes benz dealership I have to pay almost 1000$ just for this steering lock malfunction. This issue has been occurring to a lot of C300 2008 models. This should be seen as a serious issue as vehicle is totally non-functional. My work is effected and missed a couple business meetings.

I have 2010 Mercedes Benz C300, my steering lock failed recently. This is a very common failure among C300 models (2008 to 2013). Quite a few cars are vulnerable to this failure around 5 year mark. Manufacturer should issue a recall on these parts, as they have a very bad reliability.

Electronic steering failure. Steering wheel locked. Gear shift locked in park. Can turn key, but the only the central dash works with message "take key from ignition". No start up lights on. Vehicle locks, unlocks, radio works, but won't start. Luckily it happened in the garage while vehicle was stationary and not in motion. $800 out of pocket for new eis and blue key + labor. Seems to be very frequent issue with 2008/2009 C300 models. Recall should be issued and owners reimbursed for expenses incurred given the number of reports and safety risks as some have reported it happened to them while vehicle was in motion. Don't need to wait until someone gets really hurt.

Parked my car overnight and went to start it in the morning and would not start. The key would turn but got no lights on the dash and radio would not work. The steering wheel did not unlock. A known issue with Mercedes Benz C300 card model year 2008 and up. The steering ignition switch fails. This is a dealer fix only and costs approximately $1500-$2000 dollars.
