2 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 03/27/2019

Gas tank leaks, car is 2 years out of coverage for gas tank. The original program did not leave much room for 2003 owners to be eligible. The tank leak at the top is an inherent design flaw that mercedes admits is a problem but washes their hands of it after the program eligibility expiration. There is a noticeable gas smell coming from the left rear wheel area and the leak can be seen coming from the top of the tank when the fuel filter access plate is removed.

3 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2003 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 12/02/2014

We have been experiencing fumes of gas after the gas tank is completely filled. Later the car developed rough idling. We took the car to mercedes-benz of oklahoma city where the car has always been serviced for inspection, the dealership kept the car for four days. In the mean time we received a letter from mercedes-benz of USA notifying us of extension of warranty on fuel system for up to 15 years. When we asked the dealership about it we were told they know and are following the "bulletin" issued by the company. Initially we were told there was a leak on the top of the gas tank, however the car was returned to us by replacing the fuel filter under warranty. There was no paper work so we don't know what was actually diagnosed and done. The car is still idling rough, the fuel gauge is not reading correct (though the tank is full, gauge shows 1/4th empty). We will take the car back to the mercedes dealership tomorrow. Fuel leak is a serious matter, we wish the company had taken serious steps to fix it and had informed the customers of the actual problem. Hope NHTSA will look into this matter.

4 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 11/07/2014

Filled the fuel tank with diesel. Drove 240 miles to destination. Upon arriving, smelled diesel very strong at right rear near fuel cap and under tire well. Looked under car and saw possible diesel leaking. Bought new file tank tank thinking that may solve but kept smelling it so I drive to mb dealer in fort pierce, FL. Dealer stated fuel tank leak with estimate of $3500. Seems to be happening on other w211 cars as well. Feel this should be a recall on the cars. This is very much a safety issue on a supposedly "safe" car.

Failure Date: 03/01/2013

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Mercedes Benz E320. The contact stated that there were strong fumes coming from the gas tank each time the vehicle had been driven. The contact stated that on a hill the gas gage does not show the correct reading. As a safety percaution the contact had put only a half tank of gas to ensure the gas would not overflow or the strong odor would not emmit from the gas tank. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the fuel tank cap had leaked and the left and right gas tanks had needed to be replaced. The vehicle was to be inspected, diagnosed and repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was not included in NHTSA action number: ea13003 (fuel system, gasoline). The approximate failure mileage was 120,000. Dyd.

7 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem of the 2005 Mercedes Benz E320

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

My car remits strong gasoline odor each time that I refuel my tank. When I noticed this smell I thought it had to do with the gas cap. I took my car in to be inspected by a local mercedes dealership and was told my fuel tank is leaking and needed to be replaced. My car had about 45000 miles on it when I first noticed the smell. A car with that low of mileage should not be experiencing a fuel tank leak. I am serious concerned about my car catching fire and exploding. Please help.

I begin to smell fumes after a fill up and replaced the filler cap. This did not solve the problem and the problem progressed. I was told by the dealership were I purchased the car that the fuel tank was leaking. The dealer wants $3,000. 00 to repair something that should not be happening under normal ware.
