Other Fuel System Problems of Mercedes Benz E320 - part 1

I inherited my dad's 2003 Mercedes Benz E320 when he passed away last year. He kept the car in pristine condition. About a month ago while driving it, I noticed a strong smell of gasoline in the cabin of the vehicle. The odor is strong just after filling the tank, and then it disappears at appox. 3 quarters of a tank. This issue has been physically challenging for me, making me dizzy and giving me migraines. I'm also very concerned about the safety issues relating to gasoline fumes inside the car. . . My understanding is that this is a common issue for the said Mercedes Benz model and year. It is a dangerous parts defect that is unacceptable.

*1. The fuel tank and components and/or system failed or malfunctioned. *2. After filling the gas tank, the odor of strong pungent gasoline fumes fills the cabin of the and lingers for some time in the car and garage until the gasoline level goes down after being driven for a few miles. *3the car has been taken to a certified Mercedes Benz dealership service center and was told that the problem was the gas tank and system/components. *4. The car was inspected by a certified Mercedes Benz dealership service center mechanic *5. There were no warning lamps or messages on the dashboard or message center on car. The only symptoms of the problem was the strong odor of gasoline fumes after fuel fill ups.

Noticed strong smell of diesel fuel by left rear tire, in several days a leak was under left tire, had fuel tank sending unit gasket replaced, no visible leaks but fumes are still present 1 year after repair. When repair was made all related parts were cleaned of residential fuel. Want to know if mb has dealt with splits or cracks in fuel tanks.

After fueling up, a smell of gas occurs. Slight gas puddle forms under the car after every fuel up. Drops gas gauge down and after that no more smell of fuel but still slight puddle of gas after leaving the car parked. Noticed it about a month ago and it seems to get worse. Doesn't seem safe knowing the car is leaking fuel.

The passenger compartment smells like gasoline. This is due to an issue that was already investigated by NHTSA however the warranty that was extended is expired by two years. Battery light came on so it was charged then reconnected, everything good, turn key to on position everything good, turn key to start and bang! loud bang and white smoke everywhere, engine continued to smoke for several minutes after explosion, hole in front of engine.

Fuel sending unit leaking fuel - strong odor of gasoline. I see that many other w211 style Mercedes Benz owners are complaining about the same thing. I took it into my mechanic and he says that the sending unit is leaking and this has been an going problem with these vehicle. Mercedes needs to recall this for safety reasons and do the right thing. My car have a strong smell a gasoline on the back seat every time im refueling. Some times I have to open all the windows so the smell goes away. And some times a get the message check filler cap but al ready change the filler cap and the message still some times appear.

Car has a very strong gas smell inside the cabin. Upon removal of back seat it appears wet with gas. This problem started on February 5, 2016 on my E320 (2005) benz and the odor started to give me headaches. I took car for shampoo and then consulted with mechanic who removed back seat and found wet area with gas.

Replaced battery (30 days ago) and now warning light comes on saying I need to replace the battery every 10 miles and will not go off. I smell gasoline inside my 1994 E320 when I'm driving, just started smelling it on 3/20/15. Never before this date.

After returning home from work at approximately 4:10pm I noticed two puddles in front of the drivers side rear tire. After kneeling down and placing 2 fingers in one of the fist size puddles, I determined it was gas. The vehicle has not been driven in excess of 10 days, and its very odd to suddenly begin leaking while the car is stationary.

After filling up gas at the gas station, I could smell gas outside and inside the vehicle. Gas smell was very strong and it was spreading in garage and inside the house. Upon further inspection, I found out that there was a gas leak under driver side rear seat. There was a puddle of gas under the seat next to electric connectors. Gas smell is very strong inside and outside the car. I could see fuel drops on floor next to driver side rear wheels.

I retuned from a 2 and a half week trip and started up my car (which I had filled up prior to leaving on my trip) and discovered a very strong odor of gasoline in the passenger cabin. The odor did not disappear as I drove the car. I took it to my dealer and they said the gasoline unit under the rear seat was leaking.
