1 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2018

Fuel smell inside cabin. Was told fully covered on extended warranty due to TSB no. P-47-10-63 parts covered are fuel tank, fuel filter/sender, fuel pump, gasket, seals and retention rings. Dealer calls to say it is the fuel sensor and is not covered! and cost is 1400. 00. Fuel sensor is sitting on top of the fuel filter/sender and is plugged into it!!! how can your agency allow mb to skirt covering such a closely related part in this safety investigation by the odi????.

2 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 06/03/2014

After fueling the car, strong odor of gasoline stays until tank is 3/4 or less full. The problem is consistent with every fill up. Replaces gas cap but it was not it. Seems like it is commonly occuring problem with leaking gas seals or tanks.

3 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

About a year ago (may 2013) we noticed gas smell in the compartment of the car. Initially it was sporadic. We thought it was from outside of the car or may be under the car, or gas tank cap was not tightened properly. After I took my car to Mercedes Benz dealership on 9/6/13, I found out that the smell was not from either of the above scenarios. It was indeed from inside the cabin and the Mercedes Benz technician told me that it was from fuel leakage under the back seat and it would cost $1380 to fix it. Additionally he said that he had seen numerous cases like mine, and some were so bad that they would not be able to drive it in, and had to tow the car in. Because of the high cost in addition to the other repairs that I had to do worth $1,200, I decided to delay this repair. Now we can not even drive the car because of the intense smell and will cost me probably more that $1,380 to fix it. I believe strongly that this is a manufacturer defect and should be fixed and paid for by Mercedes Benz.

4 Other Fuel System Hoses Lines/piping, And Fittings problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2011

My vehicle started having a faint gas smell after refueling a few years ago. I am not sure of the exact date or mileage as I just thought this was a minor problem. The smell would dissapear after I had used about a quarter of a tank. The odor has gotten stronger over the past year which prompted me to discuss with my mechanic. They have replaced the fuel cap and the seals on the gas tank with no reduction in the smell. They also can find no visible reason for the gas odor. The gas odor is now so strong after refueling I am unable to park my car in the garage because the smell permeates through my home. My car has 149,424 miles on in to date. I saw an article from the boston globe and this prompted me to report my issue.
