67 problems related to other fuel system tank assembly have been reported for the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/25/2021

I noticed that another owner of a 2006 E350 noted that he/she had a fuel leak. I have had one, too. The extended warrantee ran out in 2020, so mercedes wouldn't cover the repair expenses. But if they knew for 15 years that this was a problem, they should have recalled the cars. And if they aren't going to recall it, they should cover repair expenses. This is a seriously dangerous situation. It's likely that our tank has been leaking for a while. We've smelled gas for about a year, but didn't realize it was leaking until recently when there was a clear puddle in the garage.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/24/2021

Vehicle has less than 50k miles, we started noticing an intermittent strong fuel smell in the cabin in the spring of 2020. We found out that this is a known issue and mercedes had issued an extended warranty due to this issue. Unable to get the vehicle to the dealer due to covid. When we did get it diagnosed recently, we were informed the repair would exceed $3400 and we were out of the warranty period. The repair consists of replacing the fuel tank and fuel system components. Mercedes benz na has offered us a $400 dealer service credit. We cannot afford to do this repair and therefore have a vehicle we are unable to safely operate. We have read reports online of this issue where fuel is sitting on top of the fuel tank right below the rear passenger seats.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2020

There is fuel leaking and flooding on top of the driver side fuel sender unit underneath the rear driver side seat where it is located at the fuel tank. This was previously a NHTSA fuel leak investigation for these with the 2003-2008 e class vehicles which was later closed due to a recall being issued. My VIN does not seem to be part of the recall group, however, the problem remains the same as everything detailed in the report and findings of the investigation done by the u. S. Department of transportation national highway traffic safety administration for report vrtc-dcd-3206 ea13-003 in Dec 2014. (also attached). The fuel seaps out to the top of the sending unit due to a failed pressure sensor or other part in the system when the tank is full. When the tank is later less full as a result of consumption, there is no longer an issue with fuel spilling out of the top and fumes getting into the cabin. Video of the area wiped shows how it immediately returns to the top. The photo attached is of the fuel coming back after being wiped up.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2019

This vehicle is a threat to my health with all the problems I'm having with it. I have to press extra had to stop . Had brakes checked and there was no problem. There is a bad gasoline leak and loud smell of gas when I fill up. Looked under rear seat and saw gas on gas tank. Dried gas up and the big puddle returned. Can I drive this car? I need someone to tell me what to do. The last and most worrisome thing to me is that there are 2 dtc codes coming up causing the check engine light to come on. Had mechanic to clear then but they come right back when car is started. I need to get this car inspected. Someone tell me what to do. Mechanic said that the code indicate a problem with the engine and that it might take $8700 to repair every thing. I dont have that type of money. This is the car makers problem. Who is looking out for me. Is the goverment doing there job when it comes to this car. Heard there are more cars like this. Oh this is a 2006 mercedes E350. Will the goverment, dealer or manufacturer buy this car from me. This is a plea for help from anywhere. They say there is a recall on this car but when it came out there was 1 year left on car warranty before it ran out. The car didn't quit running when the stalling to repair these cars took place. Some one is in someones back pocket. Someone needs to do their job and get this problem taken care of once and for all. You may lose some friends in the process but this is better than someone losing their life. This vehicle has haad problems stationary and while moving.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/14/2016

The vehicle leaks gas when the tank is filled. It seems to drip internally and can be heard as drops. The accumulated gas then evaporates and it has a very strong smell. In the garage, the smell is extremely strong. No wet areas under the car. Gas seems to collect on some of the plastic covers under the vehicle and close to the exhaust. Appears to be more pronounced rear/driver side. If this gas got in contact with the exhaust it could case a serious and possibly fatal fire.

The E350 Mercedes Benz has a defected seal gasket on the top of the gas tank and when the tank is filled, fumes and gas will exit this opening in the fuel tank. The fumes are very strong when parked in the garage and Mercedes Benz has acknowledged this defect in their tanks and the suit has been settled. The benz dealers will not honor the repairs because it is not VIN specific and states the my vehicle is not covered. The Mercedes Benz has extended the warranty on these vehicles for this purpose and it states these details in their letter to all benz owners. The letter states all years 2004 to 2009 E350 vehicles but does not give VIN details. Please advise what my next step will be. The NHTSA action number : ea13003 which explains in details what this vehicle defect is and how Mercedes Benz will repair as an extension of warranty.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/30/2015

I am a disabled veteran and on April 30, 2015 my car smelled like gas. Mercedes benz USA said to take it to nearest dealer atlanta classic cars in gwinnett county, GA. The problem: leaking fuel tank, it took 120 days to replace the tank. The car still smells like gas, the dealership recommended replace the seat cushions, and the felt. Both are wet from gas, and has gas vapors on it. The technician showed me how to lift up the seats, and I took pictures of the wet seat cushions, and the wet felt. The dealership wants to charge me $565. 00. My complaint is that I should not have to pay for a problem that I did not cause; this was caused by a leaking fuel tank. My throat burns from the gas smells, my eyes water, and I'm getting headaches. Part of my disability is asthma and the fumes in this car exacerbates the asthma. I called Mercedes Benz USA and they said unfortunately they covered just the part! this is horrible, and dangerous to ride around with wet seat cushions with gas on them. I cant believe mercedes is not standing behind their product. This is a firetrap and they should be responsible for replacing the seat cushions and felt at no cost to me the consumer!.

Leaking fuel tank. Vehicle is is excellent condition, very well maintained, with only 65,000 miles. I took my car into the mercedes dealership for its regular maintenance service. I had just filled the gas tank prior to taking it to the dealership. The technician noticed a strong gas smell around the car. Upon inspection, the dealer mechanic noted a leak in the top of the gas tank, and recommends replacing the fuel tank. Other than this defect, the fuel tank is in good physical condition. I called a number of local mercedes mechanics for price comparison and this appears to be a "known" problem with this make and model. The repair is approximately $2,000! due to the safety issue involved, I have no other choice but to replace the fuel tank.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/07/2014

I filled the fuel tank and parked the vehicle in my garage. A couple of hours later I went into the garage and discovered a strong gas smell. I immediately contacted the gas company and told them I suspected a gas leak. The technician came out and tested the appliances in the garage. After the appliances tested negative the technician surmised that the smell was possibly emitting from my vehicle. The following day I took the vehicle into the Mercedes Benz dealer and was advised that there was a fuel tank leak. The service advisor gave me a very costly estimate for the repairs. I elected to have the vehicle repaired at a private mechanic. Unfortunately the issue was not completely resolved and the vehicle still emits a fuel smell when the tank is full. I am disappointed that the dealer did not admit that this was a manufacture issue and offer to make the repairs without cause. I feel this is a safety concern.

After refueling the car to a full tank of gas, I began to smell a strong odor of gasoline in and around the vehicle parked in my garage. This happened after repeated fill ups. I took the car to the mercedesbenz dealership and was told the problem was bad purge valve which was replaced for approximately $300. The problem has continued and I am now being told by the dealer that the fuel tank, lines and other components need replacing for estimated $3500. I was told by the dealership service manager that this was due to the age of the car and that there had been no recalls or prior complaints, to his knowledge, of this similar complaint. I have now learned that the NHTSA has been investigating this same problem in this year and model car for over 2 years and there is a class action lawsuit filed against Mercedes Benz for this same issue.
