Mercedes Benz E350 owners have reported 2 problems related to engine stall (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
The engine stalled while in motion and driving over 45 mph. This is the 2nd time this has occurred. Both times I was travelling over 45 mph on a large and busy city street and had difficulty steering my car to safety. There are no codes to explain what might be the cause. Replaced the transmission control unit the first time. After removing the key, putting the car in park and waiting for 5-10 minutes, in both occurrences I was able to restart the vehicle and drive to the dealership, which was less than 5 miles from my location.

Failure of the balance shaft (defective) causing loss of engine timing and engince skips and stalls. Mercedes benz has conceded in tech bulletins to thier dealer repair shops that this is a commom defect for 2005-2007 e-350 and other models. The dealer repaired my car and mb paid 60% of the bill as a concession. Repair required 30 hours of labor (removal of engine, replacement of balance shaft and other parts and then reinstallation of engine). Cost was $4,000 and my out of pocket was $1,900.
