4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 12/20/2019

This vehicle is a threat to my health with all the problems I'm having with it. I have to press extra had to stop . Had brakes checked and there was no problem. There is a bad gasoline leak and loud smell of gas when I fill up. Looked under rear seat and saw gas on gas tank. Dried gas up and the big puddle returned. Can I drive this car? I need someone to tell me what to do. The last and most worrisome thing to me is that there are 2 dtc codes coming up causing the check engine light to come on. Had mechanic to clear then but they come right back when car is started. I need to get this car inspected. Someone tell me what to do. Mechanic said that the code indicate a problem with the engine and that it might take $8700 to repair every thing. I dont have that type of money. This is the car makers problem. Who is looking out for me. Is the goverment doing there job when it comes to this car. Heard there are more cars like this. Oh this is a 2006 mercedes E350. Will the goverment, dealer or manufacturer buy this car from me. This is a plea for help from anywhere. They say there is a recall on this car but when it came out there was 1 year left on car warranty before it ran out. The car didn't quit running when the stalling to repair these cars took place. Some one is in someones back pocket. Someone needs to do their job and get this problem taken care of once and for all. You may lose some friends in the process but this is better than someone losing their life. This vehicle has haad problems stationary and while moving.

5 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 06/07/2019

Mercedes-benz v6 m272 engines have timing chain problems caused by balance shaft failures which mercedes has known about for year. Faulty gears wear out prematurely, excessively, and without warning, causing the vehicle to malfunction, the 'check engine light' to remain illuminated, and the vehicle to misfire or stop driving. Weak materials were used for the balance shaft sprockets and the timing chain guide, mercedes never contacted its owners about the defect which can cause the engine to halt and the car to stop mid-traffic. The check engine light comes on the vehicle at every start, throwing a p0016 and p0017 trouble code, which returns even after clearing and restart. After going to several mechanics, all have noted that the balance shaft (within the engine) requires repair an issue mercedes has know about for several years, and had even issued its mechanics with service bulletins (April 23, 2009, see attached), but has never notified its car owners of the hazardous driving during any of its service at the dealership or has not notified with any other communication. Engines with serial numbers lower than m272 engine serial no. 2729. . 30 468993 have the defective parts at manufacture, which is affecting my mercedes vehicle.

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 12/07/2017

The vehicle has only 50k miles. I am the only owner and I purchased the vehicle in 2010 (new) with only 9 miles. I have completed all required services to date. In may I had the ab service complete and the check engine light was on. I was told it was likely due to the need of having the spark plugs change based on time not mileage. Now I am being told the outcome of the check engine light on is due to a misfire code for cylinder one, failed sds compression test. Cylinder one failed cylinder leak down test at 80%. Exhaust valve seats failing causing exhaust valves not to fully close. We are unable to repair the valve seat on cylinder head and it is necessary to replace passenger side cylinder head. Only camshafts and cam adjusters can be transferred. New head will come with new valves. There are repeated reports from other owners with this same issue-resulting in enormous repair cost. This is a defect and mercedes-benz need to consume the cost, especially since the vehicle has less than $50k miles.

8 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 03/27/2017

I have a benz E350 2006 with 60k miles. My check engine light went on and I was told it was the balance shaft gear problem. Mercedes-benz had a class action lawsuit complaint filed for this issue for some of their cars with this problem as well as faulty engines & idle gears. There are more than 100000 cars from 2005 to 2007 model years with this problem and they managed to get away without issuing a recall. What surprises me is even with the class action suit, they pay only 30% of the repair cost. Dealership estimate for this repair is $7500. They have to remove the entire engine/motor and open it up to replace the small part. . Read more...

9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 10/25/2016

Our 2009 mercedes E350 has only 39,574 miles on it. On October 26, 2016, the check engine light came on, the vehicle started shaking, and there was no power when accelerating. It was towed to the mercedes dealership in arcadia, CA. We were told by the dealership that the cam adjuster was defective and would need to be replaced at a cost of $2,671. Because the car has been driven for less than 40,000 miles, we asked the dealership's service and parts director if mercedes would stand behind the quality of their products and help us with the safety issue. He told us to call the mercedes customer service at 800-222-0100. An "executive referral manager" named irene gave us a call and said that the offer from mercedes was a 15% discount. Based on our previous experience, that is the standard discount mercedes gives for its service in cases which do not involve a defective part. Irene told us there was no further discount being offered by mercedes. A search revealed a class action lawsuit filed against Mercedes Benz USA in the united states district court - northern district of California case no. 12-cv-05493 (teh) for persons who have purchased or leased mercedes-benz vehicles model years 2005-2007 equipped with m272 or m273 engines. The suit was settled by mercedes with the plaintiffs who alleged a defect in balance shaft sprockets in m272 (v-6) engines that cause the gears to wear prematurely. The plaintiffs contend that mercedes-benz USA, llc ("mbusa") had a duty to disclose this information to consumers at the time they purchased their vehicles. Based on this conduct, plaintiffs allege claims for violations of the new jersey consumer fraud act, California's consumer legal remedies act and unfair competition law. We believe that this is a safety problem in some E350s which mbusa knows about and that they should repair it for public safety reasons.

10 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 08/30/2016

30 Aug. 16 took my 07 E350 with 29427 miles to the dealership because the check engine light came on and the car was hard starting. After arriving I informed the service writer the car had shut down while driving. We were proceeding through a busy major intersection when the car shut down. Luckily it started so we could safely exit the busy major intersection. After a diagnostic test was ran, I was informed the crankshaft hall sensor was defective. Additionally, the engine control unit, engine wiring harness, crank sensor and various other components are oil soaked. I notified Mercedes Benz to be told the car was out of warranty. Mercedes benz should be held accountable for the unsafe defective materials they use. The above issues are a danger to the occupants and general public as well. The defective oil soaked wiring harness is can cause a fire. The car shuts down while driving is dangerous.

This vehicle has a great maintenance record only serviced at the mercedes dealer and has 0nly 54000 miles. This is clearly an engineering issue which was a safety issue. Mercedes repaired. Balance shaft manufacturing defect causes gear teeth to wear prematurely. This is a internal engine component. Poor materials caused the camshaft sprocket teeth to wear out – thus this is a manufacturing problem. Internal engine components like balance shaft sprockets are meant to last at least 150000 miles on mb cars – thus they are difficult to replace & repairs so expensive. Symtpom starts with camshaft position related check engine light - repair costs $7000. This occurs for many many many cars with that m272 engine. This is a environmental and safety hazard. 19 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 06/01/2014

Check engine light came on. Took the vehicle to the local dealer and they found codes 1200, 1208, p0016 and p0017. Worn balance shaft sprocket. Doing research online turns out there are hundreds and hundreds of affected mb customers. Mercedes knew of this problem as early as 2007 but has not publicly addressed this issue or issued a recall. The bill to fix this issue is over $4,000, some people report the dealer quoting them over $10,000. My price to fix this is $5,995. My complaint is that this is a known issue by mercedes. Knowingly they installed, and kept installing, parts that wear out prematurely leaving customers with an unfairly large bill to correct their mistake.

The complete replacing of the 4 cam magnets was more than $600 for service (before taxes). The service adviser also stated the other problem this vehicle consecutively comes in for is a faulty gas tank that is prone to crack which required the gas tank to be replaced. Mercedes-benz should clearly address the above issues on this vehicle.

26 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 05/07/2012

After refueling, I noticed a strong odor of gasoline in the garage where I park my car. After driving the vehicle a few miles and parking in the garage, the odor was no longer there. I started noticing a pattern that whenever I refueled the vehicle, there was a strong odor of gasoline in the garage that dissipated once the vehicle was driven a few miles. Right after I started noticing the gas smell, the vehicle check engine light came on. I recently had the vehicle checked by an authorized Mercedes Benz service center who stated gas tank has crack at the top and is leaking fuel. The entire tank and all the components will need to be replaced at $3,000. I mentioned that there are a lot of other vehicles with this problem and a couple of class action lawsuits and it appears that the vehicle's gas tank is defective. The service technician refused to repair the components under any campaign or recall.

30 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 11/28/2011

When I fill up my gas tank, there is a strong fuel odor. After driving about 30 miles the odor goes away. Took it to the dealer and it was a crack in the upper portion of the fuel tank. This looks to be the exact same issue as many other E350 owners. Total cost for the repair was $2,100. Additionally my check engine light comes on and off randomly. Dealership said it was the camshaft adjusters that need to be replaced. Again, seems to be issues with numerous other owners. My Jeep which was half the price has had less problems than my 2007 E350.

34 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 08/10/2011

I just was advised by my mercedes only independent garage that the on-going cel on my 2006 E350 (48000 miles) is for the camshaft wear mentioned in this lawsuit. The mechanic advises repair cost is $6200. He has the bulletin and has seen this issue in multiple cars. I will be complaining to the NHTSA and hoping NHTSA can recover my damages for this obvious and known defect. Check engine lights star diagnosis indicated : code 1200 and 1208 ( p0016 and p0017) for mb E350 2006 48000 mil mercedes has known about this problem since 2007 and has failed to notify any owners of the problem. Probably because the repair is so expensive ranging from $4,000-$8,000 and with most, the problem doesn't show up until after the warranty has expired. So it's a win-win situation for mercedes. I don't feel all warm and fuzzy inside because mercedes offered to put a little "goodwill cash" towards a repair that cost me thousands that they should have covered in full. And their 2 "rules" for qualifying for "goodwill assistance" for the repair has nothing to do with the repair. It's not preventable. If your vehicles falls between the serial numbers, your balance shaft will fail. On facebook specifically for the balance shaft you can get information and a number of vehicles affected. .
