2 Wiring problem of the 2014 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 12/03/2018

I was driving on route 40 (speed limit 55mph, but 45 mph due to construction) when I began hearing rattling in my rear passenger side speaker, then crackling, a burning smell and then smoke filled my vehicle. I believed my vehicle was on fire. Had I not remained calm, I could have caused an accident. I ended up driving to a nearby walmart parking lot where I left my vehicle until it was towed to the dealership for a diagnostic. The tow truck driver also confirmed smelling the burning upon starting my vehicle to pull it onto the tow truck. This happened although no audio was being used in the vehicle. I googled the issue and located similar stories on mbworld. Org forum dating back to 2016. The issue is melting harmon kardon speakers in the 2014 E350 model. Speakers do not melt as a part of normal wear and tear, but because of poor wiring, adhesive and/or craftsmanship. My service advisor called me today and confirmed my suspicions that the rear passenger speaker had in fact melted and my front driver side speaker is also in the process of suffering the same fate. Both need replacing. Because my vehicle has been out of warranty for just over a year, there are no recalls for this issue and it is not a "known issue" I am expected to pay out of pocket for 2 malfunctioning/ melting speakers caused by the manufacturer. This is a safety issue, could have caused both an electrical fire in my vehicle (near my gas tank) and me to have gotten in an accident. Please issue a recall before someone is seriously hurt.

The warning light saying my low beam bulb is blowed. The car was stationary at moment. I had the bulb replaced and it still did not work. So mechanic checked and saw pieces of wire within the headlight casing. Electrical wiring to my headlights is disintegrated. So I assume; the complete wiring throughout the engine is disintegrated. So I begin searching online and read the issue with mercedes using faulty wiring. Therefore; I am reporting the issue and want some type of solution.

5 Wiring problem of the 2007 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

6 Wiring problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 06/22/2012

My E350 is 6 years old and has 77000 miles. The electrical wiring for the signal lights has disintegrated exposing bare wires and causing wires to short-circuit creating an extremely hazardous situation that prevents the vehicle from functioning correctly. This is creating a serious safety hazard with possible fire in engine area. This problem is a manufacturing defect. Mercedes benz tells me that because my car is out of warranty I have to pay for the repair which is about $1000. 00 dollars. The wire insulation should last a very long time if car is properly designed and this wiring problem should be corrected by the manufacture with no cost to the car owners. Due to the seriousness of this problem I recommend the national highway traffic safety administration to order Mercedes Benz to investigate this problem and issue a safety recall. The manufacturer is aware of this widespread defect but refuses to order a recall. [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

7 Wiring problem of the 2010 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 06/13/2012

A pint of orange juice spilled on the floor of the passenger side back seat. It was cleaned up, but apparently some of the juice was able to eventually make its way into the unprotected electrical connector located under the passenger seat floor well. This caused an electrical short. Actual burn marks in the wiring near the harness connector are clearly visible. Fortunately, there was no fire, and the only indication of a problem was that the air bag service light eventually came on.

8 Wiring problem of the 2006 Mercedes Benz E350

Failure Date: 05/22/2011

The main wiring harness for the engine, lighting, fuel injection and rest of critical functions of the vehicle has disintegrated due to a manufacturing defect. The manufacturer has used an inferior and unsuitable insulation for the wires, which, is brittle, cracking and falling off exposing bare wires, creating an extremely hazardous situation. The wire insulation deterioration is causing the wires to short and prevents the vehicle from functioning correctly. This is creating a serious safety hazard. (possible, fire in engine, etc). Due to the seriousness, I recommend the national highway traffic safety administration order the manufacture to properly investigate and issue a safety recall. The manufacturer is aware of this widespread defect but refuses to order a recall. I purchased this vehicle new and operated it under normal conditions. The vehicle has been regularly serviced and maintained by Mercedes Benz authorized dealers since it was new. The vehicle has been well kept and maintained. Your assistance would be greatly appreciated! thank you! gregory chassin.
