Electrical System Problems of Mercedes Benz E350 - part 1

I've had the car for 3 years and its all stock. It has 38,500 miles and today out of no where the driver side speaker in the door started making a crackling and popping noise. Smoke started coming from the speaker and filled the cabin. I quickly pulled over and turned off the car, because the smell of plastic burning was horrible. I was immediately alarmed by this and let the car cool down. I started driving again and it started again crackling and alot of smoke coming from the speaker. I called my mechanic and he said that that car had a known problem for a short and others had complained about their speakers melting due to overheating from the amplifier. He quickly searched the fuse box numbers and had me pull fuse #67 that disarmed the amp and speakers but allowed me to drive the car again. There is no warning and this is extremely dangerous due to a possible car fire. I am just thankful that my wife or children were not driving this car when this happened. I researched the problem more and I can't believe there has not been a serious recall for those amps that came with the car.

On June 10th. I went out and started my car and it said. Power steering was my function so I turned it off and tried it again. And it said the same thing. Power steering malfunction read the owner's menu which I did is said if you can steal it. Drive it to the nearest dealershif. You can't park it well, it was already parked in my driveway. So on June 13th. I had a toll to feldmann import in bloomington mn I hate to think of what would happen if I was driving. Could it cause an accident? they confirmed that it was a problem with the stirring call at first I thought it was a leak. Turns it off that this is electrical steroid. The electronics on this during column went out. The report said it was no can message was received from the unit in 68. Vs steering control unit. There was no warning that the power stern was going to go out. I did have a engine light on, but that was due because of my. Rare radar's being out. That's the best way I can explain it.

My car has always had an issue with the extension of the steering column. On [xxx] I had the experience of my entire steering wheel locking up totally. Once I reached the repair center of Mercedes Benz I was informed that the anti theft system was no longer working. I was also informed there were several cars in the dealership with the identical same problem. . This was a very dangerous experience and has and will cost me a lot of money, as well as a safety issue as I was traveling from atlanta to TX, 4 hrs out managed to pull off the hwy and that's where my car was towed from, leaving me in the middle of no where for 10 hrs. While driving in stop and go traffic I heard a loud popping noise from the dash area and smoke started filling the cabin. I called a DC area dealer service dept and was told to exit the DC beltway and un plug the audio amplifier in the trunk left access door that stopped the popping noise and the smoke .

The contact owns a 2008 mercedes-benz E350. The contact stated that after parking the vehicle overnight, the vehicle failed to start the following morning. The contact was able to jumpstart the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to combels customs - collision repair, auto body shop, where the alternator and the battery were replaced; however, the failure persisted. The contact stated that the speedometer, the clock, and the infotainment system were inoperable. Additionally, the contact stated while driving at various speeds and turning, there was an abnormal knocking sound coming from the rear suspension, and the vehicle was swaying. The contact stated that after opening the sunroof, the sunroof failed to close as needed. The contact was able to close the sunroof manually with assistance. The contact related the failure to NHTSA campaign numbers: 08v303000 (electrical system), 24v874000 (visibility) and 12v264000 (suspension). The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact the VIN was not included in the recalls. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 116,000.

Yes, it is available for inspection upon request. The instrument cluster showed some messages* randomly appearing/beeping on and off but there were other issues present: • acceleration not possible in drive • at one point transmission would not shift from gear 3 • *speedometer would go up and down randomly until it eventually stayed at 0 physically and digitally as I was going 55-60 mph • *check engine light on • ‘brake’ light on • failed • *distance sensors failed • *stability control failed • *electronic braking system failed • *power steering failed • *cruise control failed • *mercedes pre-safe failed • *blind spot assist failed • *lane keeping assist failed • *adaptive highbeam assist failed • *mileage was not displaying on the dash • car would not shut off as I pushed the off button when I managed to eventually stop • *climate temperature sensor reaching temps of 127 degrees fahrenheit. I lost control of the vehicle while driving on the highway at relevant speeds. I was unable to safely stop for some time. If this had been at night, the issue would have been even more dangerous. This car has previously slammed on the brakes erroneously (no visually perceived danger of a forward collision). These previous brake slamming issues happened once in a traffic jam on the highway and once on a main road. Not that I know of or remember, no. Before this latest incident, I have previously left my car at the dealership’s workshop to be inspected for some relevant issues and concerns that I have had. It was there for almost 2 months on one occasion. There was only one warning lamp on the instrument cluster related to the collision prevention assist being inoperative. This message has been on the dash for maybe a year or more. The times it previously slammed on the brakes erroneously, no messages were on the dash.

While driving in traffic there were loud popping and crackling sounds from the rear speakers. Then smoke appeared and an acrid burning smell. The smoke and loud sounds continued after I pulled over and turned the key off. I removed the fuses for the sound system and it remains inoperable. I went home and searched for this problem on the web and discovered that it is a common problem on 2014 mercedes E350's. Despite this being cited as a common problem by owners, there is no recall. I called mercedes-benz USA and they reported that they were not aware of this problem. This event was very alarming and could have caused an accident when the smoke was coming into the passenger compartment. I believe it qualifies for a recall.

I was parking and the 360 view sensor did not come up. When I tried to back out and move forward again, I realized the back up camera would not come on. I turned the car on and off and then tried again to reverse to engage the camera but was instead given a message that says system inoperative.

Suspension rear sub-frame rusted through, rear lower control arm disconnected from rear sub-frame due to rust/corrosion. It is available for inspection. While braking at highway speeds the car fishtailed and I almost lost control of the vehicle. This has not been confirmed or inspected by any service, insurance or police entity. No warning lights, messages etc. Brakes: rear brake lines are severely corroded in the same area as the rear sub-frame. Electrical system: battery continuously discharges and is dead after 5 hours.

On [xxx] I was driving and the vehicles stalled in the middle of the street, I couldn’t start it back. I managed to contact aaa and had the vehicle towed to my home because it around 6pm and auto repair shops were closed. Next morning I had aaa towed the vehicle to a local auto repair shop and they told me that fuel pump failed. It would have been very dangerous if we were driving on the freeway, not to mention I had my 85 year old mother in the passenger seat. Please help me as I am sure what I need to do now. I believe there is faulty wiring in the door speaker front passenger side. It causes crackling and humming. It lessens some when you turn eco off. Concerned it could ignite a fire. Once told by dealer it’s caused by rain going into the door. Next time told that just to look at the problem would be around $600 because it has steel doors??.

My 2014 mercedes started getting a fault light with multiple performance issues. Mercedes dealer where I can carry out my routine maintenance diagnosed the issue to the electrical harness being contaminated with engine oil and it needed to be replaced on the engine because of a known issue whereby oil from the upper camshaft sensors seep into the harness and makes its way to ecu and causes possible failure of the engine control, which could lead to shutting down or worse, incorrect engine timing which would lead to incorrect detonation at the compressors and subsequently engine failure at critical operational phase. The engine is misfiring and not powering correctly during driving. Car is failing to take off and today almost caused an accident due to the car would not pull off from the traffic light with oncoming traffic due to loss of power. Safety was at risk due to an accident was almost caused due to car not moving in on coming traffic dealership is citing that is needs to have a cylinder replaced but will not tell me why it needs to be replaced, why this has happened or what could have been done pre maintenance to avoid this issue check engine light came on dealer has been contacted, and was told this is a common issue for this to happen to newer cars, but will not fix the issue and extended warranty will not cover due to this is a manufacturer issue.

Vehicle headlight burned out while driving at night time reduced visibility. Upon inspection found the headlight wires insulation located behind the passenger's light bulb connector melted/burnt causing short circuit. Temporary fixing it with an electrical tape.

While cruising , car stalled after it beeped intermittently for a few minutes . On checking , the shop found that ignition switch assembly module has failed & stopped working . Strangely , the mercedes-benz dealer on montgomery road , cincinnati refused to fix this , though the car was initially towed to them . This is suspicious action on the part of mercedes-benz dealer . The dealer acted as if they do not want this problem to become public .

Electrical burning smell and buzzing coming from car entertainment system speakers. Did not stop even when entertainment system was turned off. Had engineer diagnose and issue is the rear subwoofer. Had to remove fuse or disconnect cables to stop issue.

Steering wheel lock mechanism failed.

Electric power steering assist failure. Causing power steering to fail making steering very difficult, raising the chance for a crash.

My electric power steering failed. It often resets and can be unpredictable when it wants to fail again. It’s an intermittent problem that local dealer tried to fix with a software update but did not work. I was told I need a new steering rack at $5-6k which is unacceptable for any vehicle that has been maintained it’s whole life . My car is 8 years old with 100,000 miles with full service records I feel like this is a premature failure of the electric power steering.

I noticed about to 6 months or less that my car would shut off or stall after starting ignition and also hearing water sloshing behind the dashboard and the radio does not work and the rear camera goes on/off which is safety hazard, and the engine symbol remain lighted up even after checking all components. Also, on a few occasion my floorboard in the passenger back seat would be soak and wet. I took the car to my mechanic, and he inform that the drain valve was not working properly. After doing some research on the internet I found that this particular incident was happening in several of mercedes years 2009-2011 e50, that it was a recall on the water drain system. Also, on 01/17/23 my sunroof was working without any problems, I attempted to close it and it stop midday and I hear the motor working, but the sunroof did not move, I did more research and found a recall on the bonding glue for sunroof and the glass was detached without warning. Even though my vehicle is not on the recall list, my car is having the same exacts problems and issues and reported by NHTSA. The contact owns a 2014 Mercedes Benz E350. The contact stated that the push start button had failed to operate without warning. Due to the failure, the contact could only start the vehicle with her key fob. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where she was informed that due to an apparent electrical failure, the vehicle would also fail to start with the key fob. She was also informed that the failure was unrepairable. The manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

I was driving on north shepherd drive in houston, TX, at a speed of approximately 35 mph. While I was lightly braking to slow down for an upcoming intersection where I wished to turn, the car flashed 2 error lights--frontal collision avoidance system inoperable, and traction control system inoperable. At that moment, the car began to accelerate out of my control. It began to accelerate at a pace comparable to a full-throttle acceleration. At that moment, I turned off the vehicle and coasted to the side of the road. After a moment, I turned the car back on, electrical components responded as normal. However, there was a fluttering movement on the rpm levels on the tachymeter--even at idle levels.

Speaker(s) caught fire and sent smoke into car while driving. Dealer recognized issue immediately and said they have seen this before a few times. Mercedes said car is not in warranty son they will not support approx. Bill of $4,000. The issue was discussed in various forums by several owners. I would like to see that mercdes act responsibly and address the issue appropriately. Smoke coming into car while driving is hazardous in addition to hindering visibility and potentially cause serious accidents. Please make sure that mercedes is reprimanded and have them recall vehicles to address the issue.

The passenger front air bag malfunction,the passenger seat head rest deployed and and malfunction with any incident,the driver air bag is light on malfunction. After I took it to the dealership radio stop working no audio.

While driving, car suddenly goes to park, and stops , I was rear ended because of the sudden stop. When approaching red light, as soon as I start slowing down, it would without warning change gear to park and would stop. In a heavy traffic, as soon as I started slowing down would go straight to park and stop on the middle of highway. Mercedes benz is aware of this problem, since they issued a bulletin for eis ( electronic ignition switch).

Camshaft sensors and solenoid leak oil internally which then gets into the sensors electrical connector. From the the oil enters the engine wire harness through capillary action maki g it’s way to other sensors and ultimately the dme (digital motor electronics). This can cause February dme to fail which in turn can make the engine stop running.

This car has an electrical problem related to the radio amplifier and speakers. Many stories on the net of burning wire speakers and amplifier related to this. Car was being driven at secondary road speed (~40mph). Engine suddenly began to spudder and misfire terribly. Came to a stop light engine was idled roughly. Accelerated from stop, when check engine light turned on. Car went into limp mode at a very dangerous rail road crossing and left turn intersection. Without acceleration, family was in danger of being hit by train and incoming traffic. Took car to mercedes mechanic. Faulty parts were the camshaft position solenoid valve, ignition cool. Short circuit in one part caused blown ignition fuse and cascading mechanical problems and safety risks. Repair cost so far is $1,100. Concern is the placement of the faulty part. It is exposed to high heat in the motor compartment and poses a fire hazard as well as a personal injury hazard to the occupants and driver.

My 2014 mercedes E350 with 54k miles has a harmon kardon sound system. About 4 months ago there was static/popping sound from the rear deck speaker driver side. The radio was turned off but the static sound remained. The popping eventually went away. Today, the static sound came back along with plastic burning that filled the inside of the cabin. This is a safety concern that should be acknowledged as it can cause a fire or electrical shortage. The smoke and scent of burning plastic from the speaker can cause health issues, distract a driver, and lead to a potential fire. Please look into this matter and protect other drivers. Thank you.

Auto break suddenly activated during traffic with no obstruction ahead. Also automatic headlamp mode inoperative comes on and off.

Intermittently, while driving several of the electrical systems will fail including the lane keep assist and abs. When this happens, it also causes the instrument cluster to rapidly change speeds, making the vehicle unsafe to operate as the driver is unable to tell what speed they are going, which can become extremely hazardous since this happens at random. The issue has been diagnosed to be a faulty radar sensor in the rear bumper, however the specific part has been on backorder since February 2022 and mercedes-benz has shown no signs of urgency with resolving this issue. I have a video of the ongoing hazard that I can submit as well, it's just too large to attach to this form.

The camshaft position sensors leak oil into wiring harness. The oil circulates to other engine sensors and the ecu(engine control computer). Oil in the other sensors and the ecu causes the car to stop operating or operate erratically while driving. A real problem. This is a safety issue there should not be oil leaking into the ecu! the mercedes dealer replaced the leaking camshaft position sensors and confirmed oil had leaked into the ecu and wiring harness on December 13,2021. They recommended replacing the wiring harness and ecu at cost of $6500. I have the replaced bad sensors. Mercedes says they have no culpability in this or a fix. The mercedes complaint number is #23264730932. The previous mercedes engine generation had the same problem and mercedes did a recall on that engine.

Automatic transmission shifts into park while driving under 6km/h - resulting in sudden stops when pulling onto a road or into an intersection. The creates very unsafe driving conditions. Please refer to attached xentry bulletin issued: daimler ag 7-09-2015.

Cam adjustment solenoids leak oil into the engine wiring harness causing component failures, rough running and stalling. This problem was diagnosed and replaced by the dealer at 48k miles and has returned at 116k miles. There is a recall for models prior to 2012 and this car has the same problem. Eventually the engine will quit running at any given moment posing a dangerous situation.
