Electrical System Problems of Mercedes Benz E350 - part 2

The key in the electronic ignition switch is not recognized causing the car to suddenly throw itself into park while the vehicle is still in motion, at speeds as high as 6 mph, per service bulletin #li54. 25-p-056472. The issue is intermittent and unpredictable and puts the driver at great risk of an accident because the car stops violently and without warning to the cars behind. The car can be put back into drive and as soon as you start driving again, it will immediately throw itself back into park, which sometimes happens over and over again. This has put me in the position of having entered an intersection only to have my car stop in the middle of the intersection. I've been nearly hit from behind or side several times due to the unexpected and sudden stop my car made when this happened. Despite reporting the TSB to the mercedes dealership, they would not cover the out of warranty repair because they said it's "only a service bulletin and not a safety recall. " this is very clearly a safety issue and there are hundreds if not thousands of drivers and cars affected based on internet searches of mb and auto forums.

Mercedes benz had a previous recall campaign # 2009100001 which affected vehicles until 2012 and mine is a 2014 model E350. It has the same issue with engine severely misfiring and jerky on the road as if it is going to stop in the middle of freeway while driving and cause a safety risk for my family and others on the road. Specific component is oil leaks from transmission wiring harness and ecm connector. The leak is from camshaft hall sensors and transmission drain plug. Mercedes benz dealer in pleasanton, CA has confirmed the issue after I paid $218 for diagnosis.

There have been three events, all the same. Each time a speaker in a door, while driving, has began to squeal, sputter and the smoke. The first occurred while sitting inside a car wash, with the windows up, obviously. I was able to open the window, drenching myself, but venting the acrid electrical smoke. The second was while driving home from a medical clinic. The third was while driving on the interstate, traveling from my mothers funeral in California to wisconsin it was 2am, just outside of vail, colorado in the rain. My wife was driving, while I slept. I woke to her screaming that the car was on fire, she pulled over, taking advantage of the antilock brakes for the first time ever, striking some type of curb, ultimately not killing us, but we lost another speaker, and a tire and rim. I’m, needless to say, displeased with my expensive european wagon, but mercedes’ does not consider melting and smoking speakers to be a safety issue. Look online, and you’ll see plenty of videos of people with the same issue.

1. Backup camera will periodically display a blank screen when shifted into reverse. System has to be shutdown and restarted to get the camera to work again. Tends to happen on rainy days when camera most needed. No accident has occurred as a result to date. Date of last occurrence is an approximation. 2. Distronic plus system (adaptive cruise) will disengage unexpectedly when coming to a stop in traffic or if in stop and go traffic. The system beeps once and a red light flashes, but this is easily missed if radio is playing or driver is distracted. This has almost caused several roll forward rear-end collisions, prevented only by quick driver intervention. Neither issue has been addressed with the dealer since the vehicle is out of warranty.

Burning smell inside the car and static/cracklings noise from the speaker system. Noise continued with engine off as well as engine on. Speakers started popping with sound like gunfire. Smelled like electrical fire was happening. Then all of a sudden huge amounts of smoke began to fill the back inside of car around the back door passenger side as I sat in the car. Car was in parked position at this moment n engine was running n radio on. I turned off car and stream n jumped out of car was extremely frightening moment. Still popping sound after engine was turned off so I call 911. Fire dept n police came out n smelt burning smell from smoke n heard popping from believe speakers therefore fire dept dismantle several fuses from under hood etc since they could not dismantle the door panel where the smoke was spilling from. This was extremely emotional for me. I feel the car is a safety hazard and mercedes need to pay for this repair n dealer where it was purchased.

When I try to put the vehicle in park the car is stuck in drive or reverse. If the car is in reverse or if the vehicle is in drive and you use the gear selector to put the vehicle in park or change and gear the vehicle does not change the gear. I bought this vehicle certified preowned from mercedes-benz dealership in July 2019 the vehicle has less than 4000 miles on it since I bought it certified and this issue has occurred. This is a safety issue which could have injury and or death. The mercedes-benz dealer is stating there was a fault code with the shifter attached to the steering wheel and need to replace the entire module due to an electrical fault. The dealership is refusing to honor disrepair under a safety maintenance from the manufacture. I have escalated this matter to mercedes-benz executive relations. This issue has been ongoing for the past several months since last year.

While driving the car tonight the seat started smoking and there is a burn hole on the driver seat 1/2 dollar in size. The car was in motion, seat heater in use.

If I'm coming to a stop at a light or a stop sign, the car throws itself into park before I come to a complete stop. It has happened intermittently. It happens in speeds of less than 5mph. When I turn the car off and restart the vehicle. The problem goes away. There isn't a specific temperature or time of day when it occurs. It just happens intermittently. I have also read a tech service bulletin on this issue for other mercedes owners.

Hey I have 2014 mercedes E350 with 57k on it. Driver seat has a tear after taking to the mb dealership and was told that it is a common problem and my 7 speed transmission has kinda of a slip in 3 and 4 gear also took to my dealership and was told there is nothing wrong did more research and found out that its also a common problem.

Trunk has opened 6 - 8 times on its own. In just over 5,000 miles of ownership and two documented attempts to repair the problem persists. The trunk opens on its own in nearly any combination of; in motion, stopped, in gear, out of gear, moderate speed (40-50 mph), low speed (a crawl) cool temps. , warm temps. , top up, top down. I have even tried, while the car is in motion, to deliberately open the trunk with the key fob and with the door mounted release. It did not open when I tried to replicate an unintentional opening. Most recent incident, 10/24/2020- while in my garage, temperature cool ~ 65 degrees, key in ignition engine and running for about 1-2 minutes, both car doors closed, putting on seat belt, emergency brake still on, still in park, heard the trunk pop open. Confirmed the open trunk in the rear-view mirror. The eight + months between this occurrence and the last attempt to repair is misleading as the car's been driven less than 500 miles between the last repair and when the trunk opened on its own this time.

Burning smell inside the car and static and crackling noise from the speaker system. Noise continued with engine off. Vehicle was taken to the Mercedes Benz dealer for repairs. The sound amplifier and the center dash speaker were found to be burnt. They replaced the sound amp. , flash & scn code command unit, and satellite radio control unit.

The car will sometimes think there is someone riding in the passenger seat when no one is there. It causes the seatbelt light and the warning beeps to occur. Its a safety hazard because its a distraction while driving and it would set off the airbags for that side of the vehicle if anything is to happen.

Please see attached pdf. It concerns the trunk opening and closing mechanism which is supposed to signal when something is in the way before it closes. The trunk closed without warning on my head. Mercedes refuses to disconnect the trunk latch feature because I will not sign a release, which I will not do. See attached incident report filed with mb.

Weather was hot and had been driving on highway for hours at time of incident. Speakers started popping with sound like gunfire. Smelled like electrical fire was happening then some smoke seen. Stopped car. Still heard popping several minutes after car turned off and exited car. Mechanic was called and found popping in speakers and especially rear deck bass speakers. He received 2 small 2nd degree burns after touching them with back of his hand. He disconnected bass speakers and problem was mostly solved though similar but single pops still periodically continue on/near other speakers in car. Will probably have same failure issue on remaining speakers in near future.

While driving on the highway there was a burning smell coming from inside the car. My son pulled over and opened the driver side door there was smoke coming from the front door speaker. We found several complaints online of the same issue with same year make and model of mercedes. We brought it to ray catena in edison NJ explained the problem and they stated it was not covered even though they stated a faulty amplifier after trying to replace the speaker which melted on them as well. This is a definite safety issue as my son could have been injured be so he was driving at the time. This was not a normal wear and tear repair.

Eis module and key failed while on freeway, causing car to lose all gauges radio and ending with not being able to start vehicle on side of freeway. Now this is going to cost me 1300 dollars. . Car has been greatly taken care of and well maintained. No reason that this should happen. I could of wrecked bc the turn signals stopped working as well in the fast lane with no left shoulder to pull over to. Deadly.

I have 2007 E350 class 4-matic sport package, the panoramic sunroof does not open and when I push bottom to open the motor sound like is grinding the car has only 75000 miles on it and the dealer does not warranty it. The cost to have repaired at mercede dealership is $1500.

Car automatically shifts to park when going below 10mph or when braking.

I was driving the car down 880 until I suddenly heard a cracklings noise coming from the back of my car. I had just gotten the car serviced a week before so this was very unpleasant and surprising. I ended up turning back and parking my car at home. The next day while driving to the dealer I still heard the noise and there was a weird burning smell. The noise continued even after shutting off the car. I went to the dealer and they diagnosed that the right passenger speaker had melted and they also changed my amp. In my dealer notes, it states that there have been multiple occurrences yet it seems like there is no recall.

My vehicle when coming to a stop throws itself in the park around 5 mph. I have almost gotten hit by vehicles behind me several times.

The blind spot assist (bsa) system is malfunctioning and causes intermittent problems to the headlights malfunctioning during driving or dashboard messages flashing while driving. This problem is widely reported on mercedes E350 4matic cars across multi year models. Mercedes is unwilling to share data of this systemic failures. This should be a recall for defective bsa system components.

My collision prevention made my 2016 Mercedes Benz e400 slam on the breaks with no cars around other then the car parked to the side of the road and the cars behind me.

Upon exiting my vehicke. , I noticed a strong burning smell but could not pinpoint it. Over the next couple of days the smell persisted and my dashboard warning system alerted me that my tail lights were not working. The messages were alternating between rear left tail lights, rear right brake and tail lights, the turn signals, etc. It was just changing all the time. I took it in to the mercedes dealer and they said I needed an entire tail light assembly and then told me they didn't know. As if now I have another appointment for 7 Jan 2920.

The heater temperature is not consistent and keeps fluctuating. When I set the temperature to 80°f, it initially blows hot air, but after about 10 seconds, it starts blowing colder air. To get consistently hot air, I have to set the temperature to the maximum.

The contact owns a 2015 mercedes-benz E350. While driving approximately 42 mph, the blind stop detection monitoring system and other unknown warning indicators malfunctioned. In addition, the steering wheel was difficult to turn to the right. The contact owns a 2014 mercedes-benz E350. While driving 35 mph, the contact smelled a burning odor and noticed smoke coming from the rear passenger door. The contact pulled over and heard a sizzling noise coming from the rear passenger door speaker. The vehicle was towed to the contact's home. The manufacturer was notified and advised that the vehicle be taken to a local dealer. The contact drove to mercedes-benz of pleasanton (5885 owens dr, pleasanton, CA 94588, (925) 463-2525) where it was diagnosed that the rear passenger speaker was melted and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 87,000.

The contact owns a 2007 mercedes-benz E350. While driving various speeds, the battery warning indicator illuminated. In addition, the power steering became difficult to maneuver and the vehicle stalled. Also, the check engine warning indicator remained illuminated. The contact was unable to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to mercedes-benz of west chester (located at 1260 wilmington pike, west chester, PA 19382, (484) 313-1100) where it was diagnosed that the fuel pump needed to be replaced. The fuel pump was replaced; however, the failure recurred twice. Additionally, the fuel pump filer, water pump, tensioner pulley, and serpentine belt (which was replaced nine times) were replaced, but the failure recurred. The contact was also informed that there was an electronic failure for which the mechanic was unable to repair. The contact also stated that the fuel gauge and coolant system were inoperable, and there was a failure with the water pump. The manufacturer was informed of the failures. The approximate failure mileage was 129,000.

Car caught fire spontaneously while parked. A total loss.

50% of the time car is placed in reverse back up camera screen has no picture just a black screen. Mercedes benz of austin ran diagnostics but could not find a problem. I am aware that there is a recall for earlier models on the back up camera but recall does not include 2012 E350. Problem started about 2 years or so ago. It is an intermittent problem starting about 2 years ago and has been ongoing.

The engine stalled while in motion and driving over 45 mph. This is the 2nd time this has occurred. Both times I was travelling over 45 mph on a large and busy city street and had difficulty steering my car to safety. There are no codes to explain what might be the cause. Replaced the transmission control unit the first time. After removing the key, putting the car in park and waiting for 5-10 minutes, in both occurrences I was able to restart the vehicle and drive to the dealership, which was less than 5 miles from my location.

Speaker in right rear door has melted for the second time in 5 months, creating a burning odor in vehicle.

Seat heater in driver's seat back overheated, resulting in a burn through the seat and caught the driver's clothing on fire.

Driver's heated seat burning?!? I've owned this vehicle since late may of '18. On tues. 11/06/18 after work, I started the car and began driving home. Turned on the heat and the driver's heated seat (it's 30 degrees and snowing here in mn). I take-off and not a minute later I smell what seems to be an electrical fire/smoke. There was likely even a whiff of smoke present. Thankfully I immediately figured it was unfortunately coming from my car and that the heated seat was likely the culprit. Turned it off, pulled over and noticed the pics attached (burned hole in lower right of seat if looking at it head-on). There was the mb-tex crack there prior. Now, I won't (unfortunately) be using my heated seat anytime soon, but my question is, what now? the wife uses her side all the time, never noticed any issues. Pretty scary/surprising and disappointing all at once.
