2 Door problem of the 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 10/14/2010

Purchased an after market inside door handle from an ebay vendor: inside front drivers side door handle for a 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis GS. The return spring on the original oem handle broke, but the original handle even though broken, still remained operational. I ordered and installed a replacement aftermarket door handle "depo" 330-500006-002 purchased from an ebay vendor. 10 days after installation, the replacement door handle failed and the drivers door could not be opened from the inside of the car making this a potential safety hazard had there been an emergency. Obviously the after market part was not properly tested before sale to the public.

3 Door problem of the 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 09/18/2005

The contact stated that the right passenger door on 2001 Mercury marquis will not stay open long enough to get in and out of the car, it flopped back and forward. She had it at dealer for service in 5-04, and they adjusted it. On 9-18-05 the door came back, and hit the contact in the shoulder. Her shoulder was black and blue, and she could hardly move her arm up and down for three days. On 9-25-05 the dealer told her that it was the design of the car, and there was nothing they could do about it. Also, she talked to the manufacturer , and they told her the same thing.

5 Door problem of the 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 12/15/2001

Also at 45 mph there is a front end shimmy. Only at that speed. Nothing frightening but wonder why, will it occurr again later at increased mileage. My biggest complant is the noise coming in left side from either front or rear door. Has been back to dealer four times and we live approx. 40 miles one way which is the closest dealer. I beleive something could be done if they have to take it to a wind tunnel testing station. Their attitude has been good but no corrections. Very disgusting for new car. I am ready to dispose if necessary. I have a good sound system for no avail.

7 Door problem of the 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis

Failure Date: 12/12/1999

When the auto is put in gear, all the door locks are activated (anti-carjacking system?). When the car is stpped, the passengers in the rear seat are not able to open the doors from inside even though the childproof lock has been disengaged. Passengers are trapped inside the car and the only way they can open the doors is by unlocking them via the power lock in the front doors. Local Mercury service dept appears to think this is normal. Told me that evry single 99 Grand Marquis in the lot behaves the same way. Also I have friends with the same problem in their Lincoln. Suppose the driver is unconscious, how do the passengers get out?.
