When driving the steering will feel loose and the car sway left and right but the steering wheel isn't moving. Feels like the front wheels are going to all of a sudden shoot left or right and loose control. . I had a 2001 crown victoria and there was a recall on the steering shaft and I got that fixed. It was doing the exact thing my Mercury is doing now. . And also my electrical is freaking out. . Turn signals flash very fast here and there. . Speedometer will freak out and then not work. . . . I'm mostly concerned about the steering because it happened in my crown victoria.

I am the owner of a 2003 Mercury Grand Marquis. Several weeks ago the power steering on the vehicle quit. This was not the result of the power steering pump. The linkage in the steering system had ceased, causing the vehicle to be dangerously unsteerable. I have had this repaired at a cost of $575 dollars. I believe this is a safety issue that need immediate investigation and a safety recall. I contacted Ford motor company and was sent to chat contact shakura who gave me the corporate runaround. We were lucky as this happened on a side road at low speed. If it had happened on an interstate with speeds of 65 to 80 mph I feel this could have resulted in a major accident. I should also point out this steering item is in Ford crown victorias and more than likely in Lincoln continentals. Please advise and contact me with questions. Thank you in advance as this need to be resolved.
Left home the other day I noticed that the steering had become was stiff when the wheels were straight. . It wasn't bad turning till it was going straight. . The next day the steering became stiff and erratic. It would work sometimes and it would be stiff. . . Found out the lower steering shaft had frozen up. . There was a recall back in 2013 doe the lower shaft with is breaking. . My car was a florida car but Ford supposed have fixed it because I was moving back to NY. . Have been back in NY for 3 1/2 years now it froze up. . The recall for cars in the northern states. . Seeing I was moving back to NY they claimed they did the recall. . It shouldn't have corroded that fast. . I have no way to prove they did the recall or if they faked it. . It is cleared as it had been repaired. .
When driving at highway speeds car feels like it is swaying back and forth.

Catalytic converter fail, engine idles rough while in park. High loss of engine power while driving differentials in back tires are imbalanced…timing fail. Steering not calibrated, drivetrain out of sync altogether. Back wheels, left and right; randomly spin & torque hard while car is already in motion on any private road, hidden road, domestic road and high capacity, high speed highway, causing vehicle to fishtail uncontrollably and dangerously, and wildly side to side potentially veering off the road which could result in death unless the driver regains proper control of vehicle. Out of sync car computer and the mechanical devices built into car do not have proper timing performed on those particular moving parts altogether. The car was not manufactured properly mechanically nor electrically altogether. Headlights & electric system etc have an incomplete recall on my vehicle. 2mehm75w04x608779.
Vehicle was stationary steering wheel went round and round but wheels did not turn if I would have been driving I would have crashed.

Tl- the contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 13v385000 (steering). However, a couple of years later, while driving about 5 mph, the steering broke free without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who was unable to diagnose the failure. The contact called the ogden Lincoln of westmont dealer, located at 100 w ogden Ave, westmont, IL 60559 and was told to tow the vehicle to the shop for a diagnostic test. The contact was told that the towing and the diagnostic test would be his responsibility. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and did not offer any help. The vehicle was not repaired. I believe there is a manufacturing issue with many of the Ford Mercury Grand Marquis from multiple years of models. It took only minimal effort to find that many people have the same issue as I do with cars of the same make and model regarding the front wheel assembly being hazardous and ultimately unsafe to drive the vehicle. My personal issue is a very noticeable clanking/thudding coming from mostly the driver side front tire and the assembly used to control and secure the tire. Many similar complaints appeared as results on google after attempting to search solutions and answers to what the problem is. I found more than one account of people losing front tires while driving and even coming to a stop to park. I believe there is a massive safety concern here with so many identical accounts on the same issue. I for one rely on my personal vehicle greatly and truly think the company should be forced to come up with a legitimate solution to this issue. Live are at risk here and I for one think this needs to be taken into serious consideration. I continued to search for a solution but could not find any viable considerations on the internet. All accounts lead to the front drive assembly being simply defective and can not be prevented or permanently repaired in most cases. The company must be held responsible. They should be in charge of redesigning and replacing the front steering assembly on all cars still affected by this issue and made liable for all expenses of replacement.
While driving pins in steering coulm became losse and caused car to shut off while at stop light had to tow to service shop; had found common Ford issue with loose steering pins in 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis should be recall very dangerous to happen to some cast is $300 plus tax and tow I feel Ford ouwes me to this that built this car not me its cost as much as a decent used car to day I would like Ford to offfer me help; with there past issues with cars.

Tl-the contact owns a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that while driving at 20 mph, on a residential road. The contact heard an abnormal noise (clicking) coming from the steering wheel while attempting to make a right turn, the steering wheel detached from the wheel without warning. No dealer was contacted. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 90. Ck.
Loss of power steering. Difficult to steer. Corrosion related defect in the lower intermediate shaft.
When driving the car and making a turn in either direction, at the point the steering wheel has turned 180 degrees and is now upside down from "normal position", it feels as though the steering wheel is going to come off!!! it rocks back and forth in the upside down position. Also. . . . At times it feels hard to turn the wheel in either direction. This problem apparently comes from the upper and lower steering shafts where the u-joint connects the two steering shafts. If I slather grease on the shafts and work the steering wheel back and forth about 30 times, the "tough steering" or the feeling of no power steering subsides, but comes back in anywhere from 1 week to a month! I can be driving on the interstate and all at once I can not change lanes, which is very scary at times!!! when this happens at 65 mph it is almost timpossible to steer the car!!! it is also very dangerous making a turn at 10-20 mph as on numerous occasions, the power steering quits working and I almost ram the car sitting at the stop light because the car won't make the complete turn!!! many times, I have had to stop dead to keep from hitting the car as I am trying to turn right, and then with all my strength, crank and muscle the steering wheel to complete my right turn! ( and I am a 6', 245 lb. Man in pretty good shape!!!) I had heard from other Grand Marquis owners that there was a recall on earlier models of the Grand Marquis (2000-2002 models) for the same problem, but for some reason, the 2003 Grand Marquis LS model was excluded from this recall!!!. Both problems that I have listed apparently originate from the upper and lower steering shafts and are completely unsafe!!! there is no warning as to when the steering problem presents itself. In the winter, here in illinois, the problem compounds immensely!!!! this problem need to be addressed before someone is killed!!! thank you!.
I was driving on a 2 lane highway when I ran over some bumps in the road. The steering wheel went right and left several times, I was afraid I was going to lose control of my car. I found a recall about this same thing. Tell me what I need to do to get this situation fixed. Also, the windshield wipers stop in the straight up position. . Read more...
When I turn the car let right while traveling at any speed the steering does not return to the center postition. The steering seems to get hung up on various points left or right slow or fast. The steering knuckle looks rusted.
Tl the contact owns a 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that the steering shaft was damaged. When turning, the vehicle traveled in the opposite direction of where the contact steered. The vehicle also failed to drive in a straight line and swayed from one side of the road to the other. Also, the check oil indicator illuminated. The vehicle was taken to fairway Ford (366 w main st, canfield, OH 44406, (330) 533-3673), but no assistance was provided. The vehicle was diagnosed, but not repaired because the vehicle was out of warranty. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact planned to call the manufacturer. The failure mileage was 80,000.
Tl the contact owns a 2005 Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that the steering wheel seized without warning and had to be turned with force. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign numbers: 14v704000 (steering) and 13v385000 (steering), but exhibited the same failures related to the recall campaigns. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA action number: pe14021 (steering, engine and engine cooling). The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 105,000.

Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Ford Mercury Grand Marquis. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph, the intermediate shaft link of the steering wheel became undone. The contact stated that the steering wheel continued to spin uncontrollably. The contact was able to stop the vehicle. Murray Ford of stark, inc. Of stark, florida 32091 was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall on the vehicle. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 150,000. Ad.
I Nov 2014 I took my Grand Marquis in for a safety recall for the lcm (light control module),. While there, they also replaced the lower steer shaft for a second recall that I was unaware of (recall 13s08). I have been having issues with the steering locking up at low speeds, so I had the Ford dealership check it. The showed me the lower shaft that had been replace under the recall (by them) and showed me the intermediate shaft that now needs replace due to being frozen from corrosion. That part was also part of the recall 13s08, but was not replaced. There was a second recall issued also 13r01. Now Ford is telling me there is no open recalls on my vehicle and that due to age and mileage it is no longer covered under warranty. This is not a warranty issue, it is a safety recall issue, that was not properly fixed the first time. Ford now wants to charge me $600 for parts and labor for a repair that should have been completed under a safety recall.
The seat belts do not restrain. Also, the steering rod was broken and fixed at the last inspection which was 5/2018. We were told that the seat belts would cost $1500 or more to repair. I saw on this website that there was a recall on seat belts not restraining.
I am having a difficult time moving my steering wheel on my 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis. It started with some noisy operation of the steering wheel. Once I can get the steering wheel to move the car doesn't want to turn. I am a afraid to drive it on the road.
The car has 87934 miles on it. When driving over 50 miles a hour it jerks and shakes the check emgine light will start flashing the coolant loght comes on then dies but will start right back up. Then coolant levels are fine. The license plate light does not work replaced bulbs and fuses.
When the incident occurred my vehicle was moving, I was taking a right hand turn decreasing my speed from 35 miles an hour to take a proper right hand turn. Midway through my turn my steering locked up and I almost hit the island that was at the intersection. My two step children of 7 years old and 4 years old we're in the car at the time. There was a safety recall on over 330,000 Ford's and Mercury's for a binding steering shaft issue which I believe is the issue with my car. This is a low mileage vehicle and I do not believe that this problem should have occurred.
Steering wheel wont lock when I turn off the engine don't know if its part of a recall and didn't fix it right. . . Brake light when I step hard on brake pedal the brake light comes on for few seconds.
