1 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/20/2018

Having two issues. The first one is the check fuel intake warning light comes on and my check engine light stays on. This appears to be causing my car to cut out dangerously at intersections as well as the wrench light to come in and my car limps home.

3 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/11/2014

Check engine light came on while driving 55 mph on the freeway on 8/11/14. No signs of malfunction initially. Later the check engine light went off on 8/13/14. Took Mariner to firestone auto care to diagnose check engine light. They told me it was p0022 - vct solenoids, but the engine was still running fine. They reset the computer and told me the next time the check engine light comes on to take it into a dealership. So the check engine light comes back on by 8/17/14. Started noticing shuttering between 50-60 mph on 8/22/14. Took car into dealership on 8/27/14. Was told that the vct solenoids needed to be replaced at approx. $620 and this car only has 29k miles on it and of course is out of warranty. There is a service bulletin on replacing the vct solenoids but of course no recall has been issued. A recall should be issued and I should receive reimbursement for this repair for something that is obviously a widespread problem with Mariners and escapes from 2009-2011.

4 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 05/05/2014

While driving the auto just stopped and the check engine light came on and stayed on. I turned the auto off and restarted. It did this three times before I arrived back home. Took it to have a diagnostic test on the engine and code p2111 - throttle actuator stock open was the results. This is the second time this happened. The first time was 2 or 3 months ago but the check engine light did not come one.

5 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/18/2013

Turned the vehicle on, drove to end of street wrench aka check engine light appeared just at the same time I came to a stop vehicle started to shack and idle rough and then rpms stared going out of normal range with out a stable position. And then vehicle died twice while making it back to house where I hooked up my obd2 code reader and stated the it was a p2111 code and stated:"throttle actuator control system stuck open" .

6 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 10/03/2013

Car went into "limp mode" twice within a 3 mile span while doing approx 50mph on a country road. Both times, stopping and restarting the engine allowed normal operation. 5 days prior, the car also stalled twice. Once while pressing the gas from a complete stop, the other while pressing the gas just before coming to a complete stop (traffic signal went from red to green). This is happening less than 10 days after I had vct solenoids replaced that were causing the check engine light to come on.

7 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 09/10/2013

On the morning of September 10, 2013, after about a 30 minute commute to my place of work, I pulled into my work driveway, and my 2011 Mercury Mariner stalled. The engine seemed to cut off, the wrench light came on, and my vehicle rolled into the parking spot. Unsure of what had happened with my vehicle (as it had never happened before), I immediately called my local Ford dealership service department. The service manager was extremely helpful and told me it sounded like a throttle body problem, as his service department has replaced a number of these on both the Ford escapes and Mercury Mariners. On my lunch break, I drove over to the dealership and made it with no stalling out problems. The manager then told me he would drive me back to work in the vehicle to see if it would "act up. " it did not "act up" while he drove me back to my place of work, but on his way back to the dealership, it stalled out on him while he was attempting a left turn. He had to turn the vehicle off for approximately 30 seconds to let it reset. He said at this point the check engine light also came on. He got it into the service department and hooked it up to the computer. The computer generated code p2111, electronic throttle body assembly. He luckily had one in stock and it was promptly replaced. I have not had any more stalling out issues with my Mariner and the issue appears to be resolved. This problem could have had deadly consequences had it stalled out at the wrong place and wrong time, particularly in an oncoming traffic situation. As the service manager mentioned to me, this has been an ongoing problem that is facing a potential recall.

9 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/17/2013

Stalling. After driving 60 miles, some at freeway speeds, we stopped at a crossroad to cross. Upon crossing it ran rough and stalled just as we crossed the street. Waited two minutes, restarted and drove rest of way home with no problem. Posted speed on road we crossed is 55 mph. Had it stalled in front of traffic there could have been an accident. We had our two grandchildren in the back seat. This is the 2nd time in 5 weeks. Had the fuel pump and spark plugs changed the first time. Ran fine until yesterday. No check engine light is coming on. Today I ordered an throttle body.

10 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/22/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 mph, the vehicle shook violently and stalled. Also, the contact stated that the wrench warning icon and the check engine warning light were illuminated. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the electronic throttle body needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated the parts needed to repair the failure were unavailable. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and the current mileage was 51,000.

11 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

I was driving along at 45 mph and the vehicle lost all engine power, but did not die. I stopped the vehicle and shut off the engine. I resterted the vehicle and it started fine. I drove two miles and engine lost power again. This time the check engine light came on. I shut the vehicle off and resterted. Check engine light was still on, but I was able to drive one mile to a friends house. I let it sit for 4 hours and drove 1/10 of a mile and engine lost power again. My friend gave me a ride home as I was 12 miles from home. I called a towing service and had vehicle towed to local garage. Computer code registered a p2111. I contacted local Ford dealership and they recommended a throttle body cleaning because vehicle was out of warranty by 6,000 miles. Had service performed on 6/24. On 6/29 the engine stalled again.

12 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/09/2012

Engine lost power. Rpm dropped to approx 1000 and throttle became unresponsive. Engine warning light came on. Engine was running very rough. Pulled off interstate highway. Shut off engine. Restarted and ran normally. Next day dealer states that no faults were registered, suspects throttle body defect. Concerned that I may not be so lucky to be in light traffic next time resulting in accident.

13 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 03/30/2012

Several times, while driving vehicle, engine suddenly lost power and the check engine light came on soon afterward. At times I was driving at highway speeds, and at times slower--the last time before service was approx. 40 mph. Had to pull over several times to the side of the road, stop the engine, then restart and try to continue driving. After several more losses of compression and power, returned home and took the vehicle in for service to the dealership where it was purchased. They ran diagnostics, but were unable to duplicate the problem. Problem recurred several times afterward, and with the check engine light still on, returned for service on 4/02/12, where the diagnostics confirmed a problem with the throttle body. It was replaced and there have been no problems since then. I had to spend the following amounts for service: diagnostics on 3/30/ $59. Actual repair on 4/02/ $450. 61.

14 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/04/2011

I was on a high traffic freeway coming home from a maternity appointment (I was 7months pregnant and it was hot) and going 70mph middle lane. When my car just cut off. I was still moving but my dash was off check engine light came on and I pulled to the side. I could get it started back up but it went off again. I finally got off on a ramp. I had to have my car towed and rent a car. Between the tow rental and work on my car the total was (est 1400). Then a year later it began every now and then stalling or surging while I was driving. It has progressively worsen. Now it has been when I stop or let off the gas it goes dead. Recently went to an auto shop and they hooked it to the computer. It said it was my throttle body. It was cleaned and all was fine for a week. And now it is doing it again. I finally did google throttle body and Mercury Mariner. I found other complaints.

15 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 05/11/2011

In 2011, while driving at approximately 60 mph, I pressed the gas pedal and could not accelerate. The engine stayed on but I could not accelerate. I was able to turn on the hazards and pull off to the side of the highway. I turned off the vehicle and after waiting 5 minutes I restarted the vehicle and the gas pedal was working. Then again in October 2013, I was driving approximately 30 mph when I lost acceleration capability. This time the throttle body indicator light was displayed. I took the vehicle in to a mechanic and he stated that nothing registered on the computer as a malfunction. He looked at the intake valve and could not see any build-up. In January 2014 this happened 3 times and I was able to restart the vehicle and proceed. However, on January 11, 2014 after the malfunction the vehicle did not reset immediately now the check engine light is displayed.

16 Check Engine Light On problem of the 2006 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/09/2006

I only had my car 4 days when driving on the garden state parkway at approximately 60 mph on a Sunday with my grandchildren in the car. Luckily, I was in the slow lane when the SUV just shut off. I was able to pull onto the shoulder and restart the car. I was near an exit and proceeded down the ramp. The car again shut off at the bottom on the ramp. The check engine light stayed on. I called the dealer the next day (Monday) and brought the car in on Tuesday. It is now Friday and I still do not have my car.
