1 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/08/2020

The vehicle was in motion at a stoplight. The light had turned green, and the vehicle was breaking to stop behind the first vehicle. I pressed the gas pedal to follow the first vehicle and the car stalled. The car could not be turned back on or put in motion. There was no indication of a problem prior to this throttle body failure. The car was pushed off the road by 3 people and into a nearby parking lot. The problem that made the vehicle unsafe was a defective Ford throttle body. The reference consumer satisfaction program 13n03. I received the recall notice June 2014, but Ford only suggested a recalibration (not replacement). The recalibration was completed at Ford autonation on June 23, 2014. Ford had estimated a throttle body reduction in movability and not failure. The mileage of this Mercury Mariner on the date of repair was 142551 and the in-service date, 06/18/2010. Therefore, the reimbursement should be covered under Ford's extended warranty of 150000 miles/10 years. The repair was completed 06/08/2020. Ten days prior to the expiration of the extended warranty. Ford claims they will not reimburse for the throttle body failure. This was well-documented in the previous claim 13n03 and this case should be reopened, based on the fatality possibility of a throttle body failure with the original part that came with the vehicle, which was also re-calibrated per Ford's recall in 2014. This incident proves that Ford's re-calibration did not prevent failure of the throttle body. Asking for a recall for the throttle body for the similar makes and models still in circulation as it's a safety hazard and also reimbursement for this service for vehicles that had it completed.

Failure Date: 11/09/2018

While traveling approximately 35 mph, driving in a straight line on a city street in traffic, the abs abruptly applied the brakes - hard! the abs light came on and a "check brake system" warning message was displayed. Also, the electrical system shut down and the engine lost power. After about 5 seconds, power was restored and vehicle was able to proceed. This occurred approximately 8 times over a two mile distance. During the last 4 times, the engine died, lost power completely, and needed to be turned off and restarted to continue. This failure was a dangerous safety hazard. Vehicle was towed to albuquerque Lincoln Volvo. The problem was diagnosed as a failed abs module, 9l8z. The dealer replaced the abs module with a faultly module. A second abs module was installed and the vehicle was deemed repaired. The dealer did not return the defective part for analysis.

16 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 04/01/2014

Car lost power while driving-- it operated at a limp at first-- just prior to that went forward quick, then it just stalled while driving while in gear. The gas just made the engine rev. The car the next day after getting towed operated and the same thing happened while the service station took the car for a test drive. They had to tow it back. This same problem was fixed under warranty (20,000 on approx. 03/2008). It happened again. Ford refused to agree that there is something wrong with the design etc. If this had happened on the highway at highway speeds the results could have been tragic. I think it has something to do with the throttle problem. . . The car limps just as everyone as complained about. I have no idea what was actually fixed under warranty as the parts mean nothing. Pistons, gaskets, sensor turbi, hub plate asy, seals, and many other parts.

20 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/27/2013

The first sign of a problem with my 2009 Mercury Mariner (39,000 miles) was three days ago when it stalled at a stop light. Today was a bit more dramatic. At 70 mph in heavy traffic the vehicle rpm suddenly dropped down to 900 and the accelerator was none responsive. Fortunately, I was able to coast across several lanes onto the shoulder of the road. As I slowed to a stop the vehicle began surging and bucking. I noticed the wrench light was on. Then I turned off the vehicle. It restarted fine a few minutes later and ran normally (no warning lights) over to the Ford dealership. After listening to my story, the Ford service man told me that he was nearly certain the throttle body needed replacement. He went on to say that he was quite familiar with the issue since for years he's been dealing with - on average - three of these cases per week. That's one service man at one dealership. Do the math! I asked if there was a recall or if Ford would give me a break on the repair. He said "no", but agreed that the throttle body should not fail after only 39,000 miles. He also said it would be a waste of time filing a complaint to Ford customer service. So, I took the vehicle to my local mechanic to have it checked out. They found no error codes registered and for their test drive it ran fine. I don't know what to do next. By the way, there was an earlier recall for our vehicle. In September 2010, they reprogrammed the powertrain control module and replaced the plm, whatever that means.

21 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/25/2013

While driving on three separate occasions the vehicle unexpectedly stalls with no prior warning. The third time I was traveling at approximately 60 mph on the parkway. A dangerous condition to say the least. I have a second 2010 Mariner which had exactly the same problem in January 2013. Both were repaired by the dealer by replacing a defective throttle body.

22 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/11/2013

Driving at approx 40 mph car engine reacts abnormally and "wrench" warning light appears and car "stalls" out and, although fully operational will not drive. Turn the car off and back on and the engine eventually will turn over but again repeats the same issue of "stalling" out. After having the car towed, the diagnosis is a defective "throttle-body".

23 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/20/2013

The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while traveling various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled. The vehicle was moved to the shoulder and restarted. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted about the failure. The failure mileage was 51,000.

25 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/08/2013

Vehicle will stall when at a red light to long or if you speed up to pass a vehicle then I have to wait 15 minutes or longer to move again then only I few feet at a time and it cuts off again.

26 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

About four weeks ago I had noticed that the gas pedal of my car was acting strangely; occasionally, as I was trying to accelerate from a stopped position it wouldn't work, or "catch," right away, and I would have to push down increasingly hard until it moved. I had an appointment at my local dealership when I was driving home one Friday, stopped at a stop light to turn left, and it stalled. I brought it in the following Monday morning and after a couple hours the service advisor and techinician told me I needed a new throttle body. They tested it and said they could see it "sticking. " however, and this is where my complaint comes in, they told me a new part wouldn't come in right away as it was on backorder and there were 48,000 orders besides mine! it has since been 3 weeks since that visit with no new part and no expected date, and the serivce advisor told me today when I called that there were close to 750,000 orders for this throttle body because it's the same part used in many different vehicle make and models. Regardless, my car is progressively getting worse. When I push the gas pedal I more frequently get no action and at times it now also accelerates unnaturally fast, almost jumps, then quickly returns to normal. Yesterday the pedal required so much force before the car moved that I thought it had stalled on me again, only this time while I was driving it. The dealership has told me that they have no idea when the part could come in and cannot give me a loaner car for an unlimited amount of time, so until then I am driving around in unreliable vehicle, never quite sure how it's going to act. It infuriates me that there are so many of these parts on back order, and yet a recall was never issued. Had there been a recall when the other thousands of people had issues I would not have to sit around waiting, while feeling like I'm putting my own life in danger.

27 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/05/2013

Car stalls and/or ottherwise looses motive power at all speeds (start-up, low speeds, as well as, mid and high speeds) causing dangerous situattions on the highways. The part (electronic throtle body) needed for this repair was originally back-ordered 7-8-2013 with expected delivery date of of 8-7-2013. Now the expected fullfilment date is 9-23-2013. This is an incredibly longtime to wait to have a car fixed. Can anything be done to expedite this unrealistic time line. How many of these failures do they have? is a recall warranted?.

28 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/25/2013

Started vehicle in the morning for work & yellow wrench light came on, combined with "limp mode" symptoms of no throttle response. Googled & found multiple complaints for similar issues with this motor. Called local Ford dealer who said the throttle body has had 3 different part numbers which leads me to believe that this has been a know issue for a while now. Ordered the latest version of the throttle body & will have it replaced by my mechanic who said its a 1/2 hr install. I will be keeping the receipts & hopefully Ford will be kind enough to reimburse those who have had this fixed, if the issue does end up becoming a recall. What a headache.

29 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/18/2013

Car stalled multiple times and went into what the dealership calls limp mode. I was informed I have a bad throttle body and motor asy - [ds7z9e926a], it is my understanding there is a nationwide back ordered on this part. The vehicle is used primarily on the freeway at speeds in excess of 65 miles per hour. It is my understanding there has only been a few hundred complaints. I wish to add one more to the list. I am being told no eta on when Ford will get the back order of parts cleared up. 6 – 8 weeks without my primary vehicle.

30 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/17/2013

While driving, my SUV completely stalled and stopped running. I turned the vehicle off and restarted it and it then it went. This happened continuously. I called the dealer where I purchased the car, benson Lincoln Mercury, in pittsburgh, and the service advisor told me that he didn't know what it could be making it stop running. My husband works in the automotive industry and it happened when he was driving the car and the "check engine" light came on. He put it on the computer and received the code, p-2111 "throttle actuator system stuck open. " it seems that many other people are having this issue too. In April, the dealership put a computer "update" in my car. Could this have an impact. I should not have to pay for a part for my car, when this is obviously a defect of which the manufacturer is aware.

31 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/12/2013

Car stalls continuously.

32 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 06/07/2013

Had previously had the dealer look into what I thought was issue with transmission and gears slipping back in 2012. They indicated there was a bulletin, which I believe was on a computer issue, and that the tech made some adjustments. That seemed to address the issue for a while. It had been acting up again, and not quite the same as previously, with more stalling out and not accelerating and then suddenly jumping a little. Asked dealer to look into situation again on visit on may 30th. Techs found nothing wrong. Was driving home on interstate on evening of June 7th when it felt like the engine had lost power. I was driving 60 mph, but I was able to pull off to a wide shoulder area. The orange wrench light came on. I turned off car and let it sit for a couple of minutes. It started up with no problems. I was able to drive it about 45-50 mph until off interstate and got it to dealership with no additional problems and left it. Waiting to hear outcome from them.

33 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 05/20/2013

Slowed to make a right hand turn into a parking lot and the vehicle stalled. There was no warning of an impending stall and no console lights came on other than the battery light and the oil light. The incident did not create an error code in the computer system as I took the vehicle to a Ford dealership for service and to check for any issues with the vehicle. Ford repair shop found nothing wrong with vehicle upon inspection and said there was nothing they could do without an error code in the computer system. A stalling incident occurred again on 3/18/14. In this instance, again there was no warning. I had just exited off of the highway and was accelerating after a stop sign. The vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. Again, only the battery light and oil light came on.

34 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 02/15/2013

The car lost all power while I was driving on the interstate at 65 mph. I was able to steer it to the side of the road, and to restart it. The same thing happened in 3 miles and then again in 1 mile. It was okay for the next 3 months. Then I tried to pass a tractor and my car stalled. I got it to the side of the road and was able to limp into a Ford service center where they diagnosed a " throttle body failure". I am waiting on a part back order to get it fixed!.

35 Car Stall problem of the 2008 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 01/31/2013

I was attempting to exit a parking lot and vehicle stalled and would not accelerate. I coasted back into a parking space, shut off engine and made a few more attempts with the same result each time. I shut vehicle off and waited for roughly twenty minutes and tried again. Vehicle did engage and I was able to exit parking structure however, vehicle stalled in the middle of the road. Fortunately, there was light traffic and I was able to coast back into parking lot. Problem was subsequently diagnosed as bad binding throttle cable. The cable was replaced at my expense. February 24 and 25 of 2014, vehicle stalled while in traffic, lost power and again pedal stuck and vehicle would not engage. Subsequent diagnosis is replacement of throttle body at my expense. This is extremely expensive and potentially dangerous.
