36 Car Stall problem of the 2010 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 01/11/2013

While driving on several occasions the vehicle unexpectedly stalls with no prior warning. The third time I was traveling at approximately 60 mph on the parkway. I have a second 2010 Mariner which had exactly the same problem in August 2013. Both were repaired by the dealer by replacing a defective throttle body.

37 Car Stall problem of the 2011 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 12/19/2012

Car seems to stall all power stays on but the car shakes and then stalls and the wrench light comes on which is a powertrain light. Took car to dealer they say there is nothing wrong with it. They reset the light. One week after bring the car to the dealer the wrench light comes back on and the car stalls this time I was going 55 miles an hour on a parkway thankfully I was able to pull over before the car stopped. Brought to dealer, nothing is wrong with the car they recommended me to leave the heat off because there could be a problem with the heat. (don't understand that) last week the car stalled again and the wrench light came on. I am currently waiting to bring it in for service. This is not good nor safe.

40 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/16/2011

The vehicle stalls randomly. I may be driving slowly or idling and the car stalls. This has happened at yield signs, red lights and going down hill. This is very dangerous. One time at a right signal arrow it stalled going up a slight incline and I almost got hit from the back. It is easily started again by putting the car in neutral and turning the key. I brought it to the dealer because the car wouldn't start and had to be jumped. They replace the battery and blamed the battery on the problem. It is still happening and I am bringing it again.

42 Car Stall problem of the 2009 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 08/03/2009

Within the first months of owning the vehicle, it staled randomly. I could be driving or idling and the car stalls. Ifi put in neutral or park, it was easily re-started. I have had the dealer look at it several times the problem still exists. Nothing showed on the computer. On many occasions starting in 2010, the vehicle hesitates when shifting. When I would accelerate after coasting; w aiting for a light to turn green, trying to leave a stop light or sign, or after making a turn, there was a lull where the vehicle was unresponsive. It then kind of lurches into gear. The dealer told me that¿s the way the 6 speed automatics worked and I should always come to a complete stop. This past weekend 2-3-13 was the icing on the cake. I took the car down to the shore to have a leisurely weekend b4 surgery. I started the car and the engine light came on. I followed what it said in the manual and the light did not blink 8 times. I performed the mixed city and highway driving followed by 8 hours or being parked, the light came on the next morning the first thing that happened was that the rpms went very high and it lurched into gear. The car stalled twice while I was doing about 35 mph. I threw it in neutral and it started right up. Driving home , the engine light was not on but no dash lights, radio etc after about 5 minutes and noticed they came on. This happened twice. I had the heat on floor and front vents at 74 & at 1 point it felt like a/c was on. I filed complaints with (NHTSA) with no response. I see many of the same complaints I have on NHTSA that are unresolved. I have stage 3 cancer I have been battling for 9 yrs this situation is making me feel like the car is more dangerous than the cancer I am fighting. I'm putting myself at risk by driving it.

43 Car Stall problem of the 2005 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 07/08/2008

2005 Mercury Mariner. Sudden stalling of engine at speeds up to 40mph and loss of power (then recovers) at higher speeds. Notified Ford and scheduled for service twice - dealer unable to replicate and Ford response is that "every consideration has been given to the matter. . . . Unable to further review concern" we have yet another service call scheduled with another dealer because problem persists and could lead to serious accident in traffic. Problem manifested itself in July 2008 and no regular consistent pattern to it but happening more often and stalls happening more often. Afraid to drive vehicle in heavy northern va traffic due to its unpredictable stalling and/or loss of power. Reporting in case to be on record, in case other complaints filed about this issue with this model ,and for future reference in the event Ford unable or unwilling to fix a serious safety issue.

44 Car Stall problem of the 2007 Mercury Mariner

Failure Date: 03/07/2008

The car just lost power while driving. Surged a bit then was operating at reduced power like it was limping eventually it just stalled and the gas would just rev the engine. Ford fixed the car under warranty. If this has happened at highway speeds in traffic it would have caused a severe accident as cars would have been dodging a stalled car at highway speeds-.
