Me and my wife purchased a vehicle from a private seller to use for personal commute. A month later we started to notice more issue were occurring with the car then stated from the seller. I took it to an auto body shop to get it inspected and possibly serviced and upon that inspection the clerk stated that there was a milage adjustment done to the vehicle. We contacted the seller to try and return the vehicle and receive our money back, but the dealer refused and requested us to resell it.

When the weather is hot (close to 100 degrees or more) and I am driving with the a/c - my vehicle on 3 occasions will not start after parking the vehicle and trying to restart it. The red padlock sign blinks and it won't start. At first it is trying to turnover but then will continually sound worse and all other warning lights go haywire. I leave the car alone for half a day and it starts up again like nothing happened. On the fourth occasion, the car stopped while driving, just a quiet shutdown and the car glided. This time it did not work for over 24 hours and then started up again like nothing happened. Multiple mechanics and also the dealership cannot figure out the problem because by the time I have it towed to shop, it works again. They did a full check on the car and cannot find anything wrong and there were no diagnostic codes. This issue happens when the weather is hot and poses a safety concern as now it is shutting off while driving and I become stranded each time. (first incident happened 8/25/18, last incident 5/14/22) total of 4.
My vehicle has been running out of gas extremely quick. It also leaks underneath when I am pumping gas into the Mariner. I am having a loud thunking sound underneath the vehicle an when I let off the accelerator, my car slowly comes to a hault. My power steering went out one day also without warning. I can't figure the problem out except I seen a recall for the power steering module or some sort that has malfunctioned an causes the computer to erase the power steering sensor completely clean of it's existence. Please help!.
I was driving when it felt like the vehicle was reving in park then the "wrench" icon appeared on my dash. I went a couple blocks & my vehicle felt like it wasn't shifting automatically as it should. I pulled over & turned it off. It started right back up with no lights on, I went half a block & stopped at a stop sign but while stopped the engine reved up. I was worried I was going to be in an accident. Then the "wrench" light came back on, since I was close to home I figured I'd just try to get home. About another block, the check engine light came on & was making strange noises. I kept my vehicle at about 5-10 mph & got it home. My car was very jerky.
Engine suddenly cuts off while driving. Message on dash says to safely stop the vehicle.

My vehicle: 2006 Mercury Mariner hybrid SUV. Purchased new in 2006. In hot weather. . . Vehicle engine quits while in motion on freeway at approximately 70 mph (3 times), and city streets (3 times). Extremely dangerous when engine quits while driving on freeway in traffic. All you can do (while praying!) is coast to a stop and do your best to pull off on to shoulder of road without crashing into other vehicles. We have tried 3 times to get Ford motor to repair this problem. . . All to no avail. The last time we had to pay approximately $1,500. However, Ford motor did reimburse us! but at the same time they claimed the problem was resolved. Not true! about two years later the problem started all over again. For10 years we have been driving a defective vehicle that was--at all times--a danger to our lives. Ford motor should have taken this problem much more seriously and either replaced the vehicle with a another one, or truly fixed the problem. I feel Ford motor has liability in this matter. The last time this problem occurred was July 16, 2017.
Car stopped running wrench light came on started motor put it in gear tried to go regular pace car did not go it is very slow no gas peddle turned it off let set for 2 hrs. Started back up runs ok but check eng. Lite came on called dealer.
The throttle is held open when the cruise control is employed but remains open when the cruise control is turned off both by using the off button and brake application. This happens at 75-80 mph on interstate highways in az and ut. The power brake booster is ineffective with no intake vacuum. This is very dangerous.

My son was using our car he drove it to work. . . All was fine. . . He used the car to go get lunch in the shopping center. . . Drove back from the shopping center to a parking spot outside his job location. . . He then completed his shift at dick's sporting goods where my wife and I met up with him. . . We all proceeded to our car and truck which were parked across from one another. . . My wife and son got in the Mercury I got in my truck. . . My son tried to start the Mercury but it would not turn over. . . My wife tried still would not turn over . . . Checked the battery all was good so I thought maybe the starter? had it towed , and a starter replaced? still nothing . . . My mechanic said it was the motor ? and I would need a new motor !!! so I looked on line and found something about a class action lawsuit involving Mercury Mariner 2005 to 2008 mine is a 2007 ? called them but the said I have to contact Ford motor company my self ???? so that is what led me to you!!! can you help?.
The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Mariner. While driving approximately 50 mph, an unknown wrench warning indicator illuminated. The accelerator pedal was depressed, but the vehicle failed to accelerate. After waiting a few moments, the vehicle restarted. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
While driving normally suddenly it looses power and throttles before turning off. It is a hazard because I may be hit if it happens in the freeway.
Test driving vehicle and I could not accelerate. Dealer said he would fix problem.
I recently purchased a 2005 Mercury Mariner. Just after making my first payment, I was going down the interstate in it and it jerked like something had broken. It never lost power. Never had any gauges come on or anything. I drove it to the closest store and had it towed home and then to the Ford dealership in my town. They call me 2 days later and say I need a new motor $6500. That's more than the vehicle is worth. I ask how was that when no gauges came on. His response was "it's internal. Gauges won't come on. " neither the lot I bought it at, Ford, nor the finance company will help in the repairs. Judging by all of the complaints listed here, this should be a mandatory recall. Now I'm stuck with a lemon, no way to fix it or get out of it.
My vehicle is having trouble steering, took my vehicle to the repair shop and they informed that it was a recall on it. I took my vehicle to the dealership and they told me since my VIN number for me vehicle was not in the recall there was nothing that they could do and wanted to charge me $125. 00 to put it on their machine, I already to my SUV to the shop and they informed to go to the dealership.
The contact owns a 2009 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle hesitated and lunged forward as the engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact powered the vehicle off and back on and drove the vehicle without incident, however, the failure recurred approximately two weeks later. The contact powered the vehicle off and back on, however, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed that the throttle actuator needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 89,000.
On 1/1/2016 I was driving on 495 w in queens, NY heading back to manhattan where I live. Out of nowhere the car began jerking, a wrench light on the dash panel came on (which I never saw before) and I could tell the car was decelerating. I tried hitting the accelerator again, the car would jerk, the engine was revving but was barely moving. I knew I had to pull over and luckily I was able to navigate to the shoulder of the road. This was an extremely dangerous situation. I am a confident driver, however, a less confident or timid driver most likely would have panicked and gotten into a potentially serious collision.
The contact owns a 2010 Mercury Mariner. While driving at approximately 45 mph, the maintenance warning light illuminated and the vehicle jerked violently. In addition, the vehicle failed to accelerate when the accelerator pedal was depressed. The failure recurred intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who inspected the vehicle but was unable to diagnose the failure. After leaving the dealer, the maintenance and the engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 130,980.
The contact owns a 2009 Mercury Mariner. The contact stated that while driving at 45 mph, the throttle body failed and there was a sudden loss of acceleration. The contact applied force to the accelerator pedal and it did not respond. The contact was not included in NHTSA action number: pe13003 (engine). The vehicle was taken to the dealer but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 61,000.
Power of vehicle drastically decreased while driving down secondary road. Had just enough power to pull over to side of the road. Pushed down accelerator in park and neutral but no power. Turned off. Restarted and resumed normal driving. Suspect electronic throttle body. The Ford dealership will not replace without a diagnostic fee because they state it is not a recall, although an internal vehicle health report states "there are recalls for your 2009 Mercury Mariner at this time" notice # 13n03 electronic throttle body extended coverage I believe using the word recall constitutes misrepresentation when in fact Ford motor company states it is just a customer satisfaction program to alleviate them from costs and any wrong doing. It is a very dangerous safety concern.
The car would not accelerate and the wrench symbol illuminated. I had to pull over turn off the car and restart it.
During normal driving on the highway the engine lost power, the wrench light on the dash lit. The vehicle sputtered and suddenly decreased in speed, making for hazardous driving conditions. I moved to the side of the 4 lane highway and into the breakdown lane. I placed the vehicle in park, the engine idled roughly. I turned off and restarted the car and the symptoms were gone. A week later the same trouble returned. Please press fmc to resolve at no-cost to consumer the obvious and dangerous manufacture defect with a recall on the affected parts/system.
I was driving at 45mph when all of a sudden, the car stop running. I had to pull over and cut the car off. I started the car again and it went about one mile before it cut off again. Then a wrench symbol came on the left side dash board. I drove the car home and it cut off on me three times before I could get it home. I look in my car book to see what the wrench symbol means and it says that it is the throttle control/powertrain.
Was going home from work, about 20 mph, car sputtered and stopped accelerating on ramp, engine and wrench light came on. This had happened before so I knew to turn the car off and back on to get my car to work again. But alas, I am driving at about 30 mpg for only 2 minutes and it happens again! I was again on another ramp, completely blocking traffic. Thank god I was not yet on I-95 going at a high speed, or even worse with my child in the car. If I ever get in an accident with my child and we are injured because of this, my family will sue the heck out of Ford. Has to call my husband to drive the car to the dealer after I pulled off the road, I was shaking too bad to drive.
I was driving and the engine cut out on me and I had to pull over it wouldnt take any gas when I pulled over and stopped I shut the engine off and turned it back on I ran ruff I shut it off again and turned it back on then it ran fine. Then about 3 hours later it did the same thing again. I am afraid to go on the highway with this vehicle what if I am in the high speed lane and this happens I have only had the vehicle 3 months I bought it from rodman Ford in foxboro massachusetts. Thank you rebecca gilbert.

Driving at highway speeds (60pmh) it would loss power and kinda limp along. I can pull off to the side of the road and turn the car off and start it bake on again an run just find after that. This has happen three time since. It is become really dangerous.

The vehicle was able to restart. The vehicle was taken to a dealer for diagnostic testing and the throttle body was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 72,000.

While I was driving on hwy doing 75mph my Mercury Mariner 2009 it suddenly loss power and (while engine was running) I could not accelerate. "tool" light came on. I could not do anything to regain speed (accelerator was disable) and the only fix was to shut down the engine and re-start. Vehicle will start and work normally I took to the mechanics the next day he said that no codes came up.
I had just made a right turn and was proceeding down the block when I heard a sudden "click" and lost power. I couldn't steer and there was no power. I managed to get the car over to the curb and turn off the engine. I restarted it a few minutes later and it started up ok. However, the rsc warning light stayed on even though I had never pressed that button. This is not the first time this has happened. The first time it happened I was told it was a battery problem so I got a new battery. That was less than a year ago and I can't imagine I need a new battery that often - that simply needing a new battery will cause my car to fail! in doing some research I've come across several instances of the same issue necessitating replacement of the throttle body module with trouble codes p2111 and p2112 and, in fact, the north carolina consumers council (nccc) has officially petitioned the national highway safety administration (NHTSA) for a defect investigation of alleged throttle body failures in 2005-2012 Ford escape vehicles sharing the same or substantially similar part. Luckily I was only on surface streets and not the freeway. It's only a matter of time before this happens on the freeway! is there going to be a recall?.
The truck shuts off when I come to a complete stop. It usually happens when I'm attempting to stop at a yellow light to avoid running the red light. If the truck come from a high rate of speed (45 mph) to (0 mph) it just turn off. I'm afraid someone is going to run into the back of me when the light turn green because the driver expects me to move when the light turn green. I think this is very dangerous for a vehicle to just stop. It has happened about 20 times since 03-29-2014. I was told by two mechanics that it's the torque converter and that there is a recall on the Ford escape for this same problem. I believe the parts are the same for Ford and Mercury and I want it to be known that Mercury vehicles are having the same problem.
Twice in two days while speeding up to get on highway my Mariner looses complete power and the wrench light comes on. Lucky for me it was just before I was turning on to merge. Seconds later it would have been a serious accident, due to the sudden stop. I had to shut the car off and start it back up in order to get going again. After reading #pe13003 has been file for the same exact problem with same make and model. Someone better react before someone looses a life. This is horrible.
