36 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2006 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 06/15/2014

Tl- the contact owns a 2006 Mercury Milan. The contact stated that the vehicle hesitated and would not pick up speed upon pressing the acceleration pedal several times and the failure progressed. The vehicle also independently surged forward while the contact had the brake pedal applied in another instance. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who provided a tune up, changed the spark plugs and cleaned the injectors but the failure recurred. The contact stated that while pulling out of the drive way at 5 mph the vehicle continued to be slow to pick up speed. The contact had to ensure force was applied to the brake pedal to ensure the vehicle did not move. The vehicle was taken back to the authorized dealer who diagnosed that the throttle body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 99,000. Dyd.

37 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 05/31/2014

While driving often times my vehicle reduces speed drastically, while pressing on the gas. This is very dangerous especially when on the highway because of the sudden reduction in speed. Most of my driving is done on the highway. It takes a long time for the vehicle to pick up speed again. Also it does this when I am stopped at a red light which is also a concern for me with my child in the car. I tried to get this problem diagnosed but it drives fine while at the mechanic shop. My vehicle has been doing this since my purchase with only having 42,000 and some miles on it. My vehicle has only about 60,000 and still does this. This problem needs to be fixed.

38 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 04/23/2014

Immediately after entering a main highway, the engine seemed to die yet idled around 1000 rpm. The dash lights came on, the engine sputtered, but wouldn't increase speed and vehicle wouldn't move more than 2 or 3 miles per hour. After getting it off road and turning ignition off for a couple of minutes, it started and drove fine.

40 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/30/2013

Takata plus numerous other recalls: powertrain control module, "contamination on internal motor contacts of the throttle body" rear tail lights replaced, arm rest replaced as it became detached, battery replaced at 23k miles and does not hold a charge and consistently needs to be recharged. This happened at a light in a major and very busy intersection. I went and the car did not move and almost got rear-ended. It additionally over excelerated on its own. I had to get my car towed to dealer as the car died due to failed throttle.

41 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/26/2013

While first driving my car from a standstill, I noticed the "wrench idiot light" on. The car seemed to buck as it went through it's gears. Also, the speedometer registered "0" at this time. Upon entering the highway, the car would not go into what I think is 4th gear. Several times, the car lurched forward and then throttled back to a low rpm, before responding to the gas pedal. Eventually, I could run at 55 mph @ 3000 rpm's, but it wouldn't shift any further, even when I went faster. At this time, the speedometer needle finally registered my true speed. A couple of times, the rpm's suddenly shot-up and then the engine throttled back. However, the car felt like it should have gone into it's final forward gear but couldn't. On local roads. It shifts extremely hard into it's gears. The whole time, the car's "wrench" light was on.

42 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 12/19/2013

I was driving about 40 miles per hour and then all of the sudden the car stop working properly. The wrench lit up on the dashboard. I decided to pull to the side and turn off the car. After turning off the car, I turned it on again and I was able to drive for about 4 miles. Then, when it was time to drive it up a hill, it did the same.

43 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 11/23/2013

I was driving on a highway, felt a jerk in the engine, and was no longer able to accelerate. The engine continued to run and all electrical components (lights, radio, etc. ) were operational, but the car would only decrease speed so I stopped the car on the shoulder. I noticed that the engine stuttered considerably while idling and would not respond to the throttle. The wrench warning light was illuminated on the dashboard. I shut the engine off and called for a tow truck. The tow truck driver arrived after 20 minutes and was able to drive the car onto the flatbed. Some ability to drive forward had returned but I was wary. I had the car transported to a Ford dealership and the service technician identified the throttle body as the culprit ($425 to repair). I've learned subsequent to my experience that this problem is quite common with 2009 - 2011 Mercury Milans. The throttle body repair is covered for 2 years. I'm concerned that this problem may repeat.

44 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 11/13/2013

Driving near 55 mph on local highway and applying pressure to gas pedal to accelerate. Felt and heard a 'clunk'. Vehicle immediately lost ability to accelerate with pressure applied to gas pedal. Exited to shoulder. Noticed yellow service (wrench) indicator light was on. Put the car into park and turned off ignition. Re-started vehicle; service indicator light did not come back on. Put the car into drive and re-entered traffic flow. Did not have an incident in another 30 miles of driving. Took the vehicle to dealer for diagnosis. Dealer diagnosed problem as requiring new throttle body. Very dangerous situation.

45 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/19/2013

I turned the corner today and my car suddenly lost power and sputtered and was difficult to steer. I managed to roll to the curb and front end started shaking so I immediately turned it off. Turned the ignition again and it struggled to start but did and then immediately repeated the above scenario. Fire station was on the corner and luckily three firemen saw what happened and drive down to help push my car into a culdesac. Waited 90 min for a tow to the dealer and now stuck with paying for a rental. I paid for an extended warranty and will be very upset if this isn't covered! very dangerous and I don't know that I'll feel safe driving this car anymore! a recall needs to be issued!!!!!.

46 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/14/2013

While driving the wrench indicator came on. The engine was still running but the gas pedal didn't change the rpms. Coasted to the shoulder and turned the car off and back on. Restarted normally. The car did this six times in two weeks. Replaced the fuel injector throttle body and the problem has not returned.

47 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/10/2013

Driving down rural highway traveling at 58mph and suddenly lost all power and car started bucking. Able to pull off and coast to stop. Rough idling. Wrench light came on when this happened. Turned off car and restarted 5 min later. Wrench light went out. Proceed to drive and approached 58 again incident happened again. Same symptoms but now engine light came on. Turned off car and waited over 15 min. To restart. Restarted and wrench light went out but engine light remained on. Able to drive home on shoulders at speeds not above 40 mph. Called dealership and not covered under drivetrain/emissions standard manufactures warranty. Need to diagnose it in shop at labor rates. No money.

48 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/08/2013

I was driving on a local road. Suddenly the car lost power and the wrench light was on. It could only go very slowly before I parked it on the roadside. I waited for several minutes and started the engine, then everything seemed just fine and the wrench light went off. After the trip I tried to connect obdii code reader but cannot get any error code.

49 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/03/2013

Driving freeway at 77 mph when vehicle suddenly started slowing down. Managed to get car over to shoulder of road and tried to get off ramp but wouldn't make it. No lights came on and felt like it was still running at idle. Stepped on gas but wouldn't accelerate in drive or park. Shut vehicle off and started twice before I could get response from stepping on gas. Then took off like nothing wrong. Very dangerous and lucky traffic was light. Had one other incident with car doing same thing but was sitting at traffic light.

50 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

Upon putting vehicle in reverse the throttle increased on its own reaching nearly 6k rpms, by quickly placing the shift lever in neutral and applying the brake I was able to avoid a collision. Restarted the car engine light was on as well as the maintenance light, after checking for codes 2110 was present, cylinder 3 had misfired. Drove the car home it was fine. Drove the car for a week with 2 more of the same incidents (increased acceleration with out pushing the pedal) while driving. On 10/14/13 while at a stop light the car increased the throttle on its own to 6k rpms and upon release of the brake my tires broke loose and began to squeal again I was able to control the car by shifting in to neutral and the rpms settled at 600, I shifted back into drive and it has been fine for 2 days. After little research it seems like this is a common issue (google search) the electronic throttle body is malfunctioning at random mileage ranges and without warning in both the Mercury Milan and Ford fusion. I am highly concerned that a replacement part would not even fix the vehicle. Its not safe to drive and people need to be warned, might be like Toyota incident.

51 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/30/2013

No matter if cold or hot, going forward or backward, engine surges. Better have foot on brake hard to keep from surging uncontrollable. Hold on for dear life.

52 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2007 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/23/2013

Prior to the incident described the car was acting perfectly fine and had never died or been difficult to start. On the morning of sept 23rd I got in the car I started it and it died immediately. I started the car again and drove for approximately 1 block and it died again. I restarted it and it drove a couple more blocks and when I stopped at a stop sign it died again. After this the car would start but would shut off as soon as I put the car in gear. Every time the car died the check charging system light would come on. The car was towed to the local Ford dealer. The dealership ran the computer which indicated the electrical throttle body was bad. When the dealership removed the faulty throttle body they could not find any damage that would cause it to go bad. They explained that it must be a faulty part. When the throttle body was replaced a code indicated that the mass air flow sensor was also bad. The dealership could not find damage on the sensor either and explained that the throttle body going out blew the sensor.

53 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/21/2013

First time this happened I was pull out into a 4 lane road and the car just shook and had no power. 2nd time I was going 70 on highway and the car lost all power. Almost had semi in rear end. 3rd time I was on side street at 4 way stop. Car lost all power after going. All times the wrench light came on then the engine light. Had 2 mechanics look at it and said bad throttle. This is an expensive part not cover any longer. Seen all complaints on it. Should be recalled dangerous.

54 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/15/2013

Driving approximately 30 mph, the car coasted to a stop and the wrench showed on the dashboard. Waited a short while, restarted and it was okay. Did notice some lurching and the car felt like it was in the wrong gear, prior to the second incident on 10/07/20. Driving through an intersection at 30 mph, wrench showed on dashboard and car slowed to a crawl. I had to make it through the busy intersection and off ramp from a highway in order to safely get the car off the road. I could have been rear-ended both times, to say nothing about the fear of your car just conking out in the dark at 5:30am. The 3 year/36,000 mile warranty expired may 27, 2013. . . And my current mileage is 35,581 miles!!!!!!!!!! 111 days over the months and 419 miles under the warranty. . . . So, I am paying around $300+ to have this fixed. With all the exact complaints as happened to others, I am surprised Ford did not send a notice to owners to get it fixed or face the potential of being involved in a crash. . . Thank you.

55 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/14/2013

At dusk on Saturday september14,2013 traveling north bound on 6 lane interstate I-55 in far left lane at 67 mph with cruise control on the car began to slow rpm returned to idling speed under 800 rpm and was unresponsive to accelerator pressure. The traffic was heavy and I was lucky to be able to move across lanes and reach the shoulder before car had slowed to 5 mph. The wrench light came on. Shut off the car restarted it and accelerator was responsive began to accelerate to merge back on to highway and again lost power. Shut off car again and accelerating very slowly was able to reach an exit about 1 mile away before car again lost power. Called for a tow back home as vehicle was unsafe. Car taken to dealership September 16th for repair and the throttle body needed to be replaced. I learned on line that this seems to be a common problem with certain Ford and Mercury products but there has been no recall to fix this defective part which puts the driver and passenger in grave danger when the throttle body malfunctions . Luckily I was in a fairly populated area and cell phone service was available. I fear what could have happened if traffic had been even heavier or been in a more remote area. These products should be recalled as they present a serious safety issues for drivers.

56 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/13/2013

Driving 2 weeks ago, going 45 mph and the accelerator stopped working. Engine was running and I could still safely pull it over to the side of the road. I turned the vehicle off and then back on and it worked again. Since there were many areas of non-safe roads to pull over, I decided to have it towed home. It has driven fine ever since, until today, going 55mph, on the interstate, accelerator stops working. I safely pulled over, turned off and restarted engine. I safely drove to my nearest Ford dealership where they say it is the throttle sensor. Why is this not eligible for recall yet as I read these many, many pages of posts on the same thing? I have to wait until November for the part as it is on backorder. No safe car to drive until then.

57 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/07/2013

While driving on interstate at 70 miles per hour, the car jerked and the car immediately decelerated. The throttle warning light came on and we had to maneuver through multiple lanes of traffic to get to the shoulder. The car was idling very rough. Parked the car and turned off the ignition. Restarted the car and it ran fine for 2 days, when it occurred again, this time we were driving at 40 miles per hour. It has since occurred 5 more times, mostly at highway speeds, during rush hour. This has occurred both with the air conditioner running and when it was off. We have come very close to being rear-ended multiple times, we were not in safe situations and this is our only vehicle. I am unable to afford a rental car and the dealership will not provide us with a safe vehicle.

58 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 09/06/2013

After replacing my car battery, the service light for the throttle body transmission came on. When I went to drive off there was no engine power.

59 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

On at least 4 separate occasions, we were driving (two times going about 60 mph, the other two times about 30 mph) and the engine seemed to seize up or would lose acceleration. The wrench light comes on each time and we are not able to accelerate. We had to coast to the side of the road (extremely dangerous on busy highways to get over to the side of the road with no power). Once to the side of the road, we turned the car off and waited a couple of minutes. Once we turned the car back on, it seemed to work properly again. We took the car to a Ford dealership to have them look at it. The error code did not register so did not know what to fix.

60 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

On August 30th, 2013, the vehicle engine would not run over 2000 rpm during a drive at 40mph no matter how hard push the gas paddle. After pushed the brake, slowed down and stopped the vehicle, engine still would not run over 2000 rpm. Then I put the shift in parking, turn off engine (using key), restart it, the engine had choke sound and would not run over 1500 rpm. After that a gentle man helped me to park my car in his driveway. I called the dealership and had the tow truck towed the vehicle. When the incident happened, it had me, my wife and 2 children in the car, and happened when I drove the vehicle across the railroad cross. After 4 days including weekends, the dealership target the problem is the throttle body assembly.

61 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/29/2013

Was driving vehicle to work and was only going 35 mph as I had just pulled out of my drive way. All of the sudden I lost all acceleration. It was like my car was stuck in neutral. The wrench light came on the dashboard. I pulled over, put the car in park and turned my car off. When I restarted my car a few minutes later, the wrench was gone and the problem was resolved. I called the dealer and it is going there tonight. They informed me that this is an issue with the 2010 Mercury Milans. They replaced the throttle body last week on the same make, model, year. As I do more research I see that this is a common problem. If that's the case, why isn't this being recalled? I am just thankful I wasn't on a busy highway and that I have the extended warranty.

62 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/28/2013

I was driving approx 25mph when my vehicle suddently started jerking back and forth, there was no acceleration, and the wrench light came on. I pulled over to the side of the road and turned off the car. When I turned it back on minutes later, it seemed to be back to normal. I proceeded down the road and made it about 3/4 mile when it did it again, this time in the middle of the intersection. I was able to coast through and pull into a parking lot. The dealer towed it in and said it is the engine throttle body. They state the part is on national backorder until November (3 months away!), with 25,000 cars currently waiting for this part. I don't see how there can be this huge of a problem but no recall yet. Ford really needs to take responsibility for this malfunction.

63 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/27/2013

Wrench and engine light came on. Vehicle would not go beyond 5 mph. Waited and turned the car back on. ,engine light stayed lit and was able to get home. I took the vehicle to autozone and received a diagnostic code p2111: throttle actuator control system, tachometer open or shorted. Called Ford and they are aware but stated that they will not repair with a recall being issued.

64 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/23/2013

I have owned this vehicle for the past year and a half. There have been times when initially putting the vehicle into drive or reverse, that I would notice a surge, but nothing more than that. And nothing I thought anymore about. Yesterday the car drove a couple of blocks normally, then started the same surging but this time the surging did not stop and I had to have the vehicle towed to a dealer. They told me the throttle body was stuck open and it has to be replaced.

65 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/17/2013

I got my speed up to 70mph . It surged a few times . Ran ok too home . This could be a life or death thing . I wonder if anyone has been hurt because of this . I will call Ford today and get it fixed .

66 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/14/2013

Two or three times in the last day or two the engine has lost power/died & car would have to be steered to side of road & put in park to be restarted! on at least one of thease ocasions the car was in traffic at highway speed & could have really ben a problem, wife was driving & had grand daughter & great grand daughter in the car with her, from what I can read & find out Ford motor CO knows of the problem, but has yet not addressed it, it appears to be a problen with a circut board on the throttle body. This could potentially be a real bad situation! I think some ones attention needs to be directed to this problem! why has this not been a recall before some onr really gets hurt?.

67 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/12/2013

While driving on the freeway at 55mph the orange wrench symbol lit up on the dashboard and the car started to lose power. The engine kept running, but there was no response when I pushed on the gas pedal. I was able to coast to the side of the road. I turned the car off for 5 minutes and then restarted it and the power returned enough to get me to a Ford dealer.

68 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/10/2013

I was passing another car. I began to increase my speed. The reading of my speedometer began to decrease & my car began to stop pulling, as if it had lost its energy. I pulled over to side of road. Pressed on the gas pedal to idle up car. Nothing happened. Turned car off & back on. Car began to drive normal for about 5 days. Then it happened two more times in one day. Next, I took it to a Ford dealership. They stated it would take about $520 to repair. I thought my platinum warranty would cover this but, unfortunately I was told it wouldn't. I just purchase this car in Feb 2013. Today's date is August 16,2013. . . . Not a happy customer!!!!.

69 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/08/2013

While driving 50 mph on a highway, the vehicle suddenly without warning loss all propulsion and started to sputter violently. I noticed the "wrench" light indicator was illuminated and luckily coasted with no propulsion to a safe area on the highway shoulder to pull over. I shut the engine off for a minute and restarted vehicle as normal and no "indicator light" had illuminated. The vehicle appeared to be operating as normal at this point. Later I had the codes pulled for the incident on my vehicle and was told it indicated a throttle body failure. This occurred 3 times over the last several weeks. After doing a search on the internet, I found numerous incidents of the exact same description I have here. There must be an inherent defect of the part used in these vehicles.

70 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mercury Milan

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

I've had multiple issues with the Milan throttle body for over a year. Everytime I take it to the dealer they say the computer just needs reprogrammed. After I leave the dealership my car usually has a hard faluire just like it did before (loss of power, engine running rough, car rolls to a stop). I can completely turn the car off and turn back on and it runs fine again for a while and then does it all over again. The dealership will only keep reprogramming the computer. They have also replaced the throttle body 2 times but after about 100 miles it starts all over again. Ford has refused to do anything other than what the dealership can find which is only what the codes say (reprogram computer or replace throttle body). I'm not going to keep taking my car in every week to get reprogrammed. Ford has refused to give me a loaner car to use until they fix it. I've taken multiple days off work and arranged for other transportation for the previous work. However, enough is enough. I can't keep taking my car back for some that Ford knows needs fixed. This is clearly a significant safety issue. I travel a lot on highways and interstates and when I lose power I've had some close calls will accidents (re ended) and trying to get to a shoulder to pull off and restart car. I can no longer use my car to drive my kids around due to the safety concerns of being hit during a failure or stranded. I've made this known very clearly to Ford but they don't seem to care. If they do they are not acting on it. I would hate for something terrible to happen before they fix it. I'm not only concerned for my family but others that may be having similar issues with their car. All I'm asking for is for Ford to recognize this is a very real and serious safety concern. They need to look a lilttle deeper at the issue. I just want a safe car to drive until they can fix it.
