Failure Date: 01/16/2007

- the contact stated that the abs tone rings cracked. The driver felt the abs pump. He took the vehicle in for repair and was told the tone rings are wearing and cracked, and the axle would need to be replaced. The contact has had the vehicle repaired .

2 Axle Assembly problem of the 2000 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 03/19/2005

While stopping at a traffic light vehicle continued to accelerate at full throttle, even when brakes were applied again, and the ignition was turned off. Vehicle accelerated through an intersection, and only stopped when the front axle broke. Vehicle was towed to a dealership, but they couldn't indicated why the acceleration failure occurred, even when a diagnostic test was performed. Car kept lunging and hopping forward while the brakes were on. The vehicle was taken to the dealer but they were unable to determine d the cause of the problem.

3 Axle Assembly problem of the 1996 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 09/16/1996

Control module for transmission failed, causing vehicle to slowly accelerate, also replaced transaxle.

4 Axle Assembly problem of the 1998 Mercury Sable

Vehicle design allows for the pcm to maintain the same rpm as if the transmission were in 3rd gear with the torque converter locked, this does not allow for deceleration when foot is off accelerator causing wear of braking components and extended stopping distances which are unpredictable.
