The contact owns a 2002 Mercury Sable LS. The vehicle had less than 31,900 miles on it. On 5/6/05 front brakes were replaced. Front brake pads cut the front rotors. Resurfaced the rotors, replaced and machined them which cost $250-275. . Then on 7/25/05 had the rear brakes replaced/machined rear drums/replaced shoes/ flushed the brake system, and replaced brake cylinder. Which cost consume r around $425. The vehicle now only has 33,544. The dealership has been very good about doing work on this vehicle. Consumer contacted the manufacturer, and they told him the problem was with the vehicle. They said they would call the dealership. All they did was contact the dealership, and they gave consumer $50 off. That was all the manufacturer did, and they never contacted him back. He dealt with the manufacturer before, and they did nothing for him then. Consumer did not like the way customer service handled his concerns. Brakes went out after three years. Also contacted consumer reports, and they informed him that they were going to do a report on car brakes.

Severe front shudder during braking. This became apparent about 45000 miles and continued to increase over time. Owner preformed own investigation and discovered front rotors badly warped. Owner preformed own maintainence by installing aftermarket new rotors and pads. Owner wishes to indicate that original rotors removed from car appear to have what looks like fracture cracks across surface of ea rotor and unusual patterns and discolors not seen on other cars before. These parts have been kept at owners home for future investigation if requested. Car is now back in service with brakes operating correctly after repairs were completed.

When applying brakes at highway speed, (55+) the brakes shudder and vibrate the steering wheel. Took car to stuart powell, Ford-Mercury, danville, ky. And was told the rotors were surfaced and the brakes were repaired. About 1 1/2 months later the same problem started again in addition to when the brake pedal is pushed it seems hard and doesn't stop unless a lot of pressure is applied. Also when putting enough pressure on the pedal to stop, the pedal goes almost to the floor . Took the car back to stuart powell Ford-Mercury and they kept it for one full day, test drove it for 1. 2 miles and told me they could not find anything wrong. I believe the brakes on this car need to be repaired before I have a serious accident.
Rear rotors were replaced,on advise of Ford dealer. Supposedly caused by sand and salt on highway in winter. Yet, no such problem exists on front rotors.
Brake rotor problems - shaking violently when brakes depressed traveling at 60mphew car. .
Consumer noticed the front end shimmied when brakes were applied. Dealer determined that front rotors needed to be grounded. This happened first at 25000 miles, a second time at 48000 miles. Mr rotors grounded again at 50000 miles . Dealership suggested that rotors be replaced on next service.
I'm having trouble with the brake rotors warping every six to eight months. They usally turn or replace the rotos. I called Ford in detroit on the problem but they are saying its nomal wear and tear. But if you go to the dealership they say they replace alot of these rotors and that this is normal . But when my car goes out warrnity at its 3/36000 miles the problem will become my problem. I don't think this normal and should be researched. I have been told that Ford has had numerous problems with brake rotors but they put it off on customers driving habits. I work at a competors dealership and drive all day and don't have this problem with the van that I drive on a daily basis. If you could help it would bre appreciated. . . Thank you.
Rotors continue to be defective. Consumer has had rotors surfaced a few times, but they still are going bad. Contacted dealer, and dealer is not willing to do anything.
