- the contact owns a 2001 Mercury Sable with an odometer reading of 71750 miles. The contact stated that the hoses that ran through the heater core dry rotted and failed, which caused the vehicle to overheat. The contact was driving under normal conditions at 40 mph when the failure occurred. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer to have the problem repaired. The failure mileage was 68,680. The vehicle was leaking coolant at the tubes to the heater core. The front brake pads were very thin. Updated 04/12/07.

Failure Date: 05/01/2001

Front frost plug broke and coolant leaked. Consumer had engine replaced . Ford had a TSB / voluntary recall on vehicle for that problem. Contacted dealer.
