38 Power Train problem of the 2000 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 10/01/2011

Driving down road in my 2000 Mercury Sable ,stopped at redlight, tried to pull out,car would only rev up and not move. There were no signs that the transmission was going bad just up and quit pulling. We were. Stuck in middle of road ,with cars passing around us. We. Was in danger of getting hit. We had 100 miles to drive on freeway to get home. If this had happened then, we surely would have been hit by a passing car. I have researched this a lot and have found this a common problem with these cars.

39 Power Train problem of the 2009 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 11/23/2010

Automobile engine inadvertently stopped running while driving at highway speed. Only indication was illumination of alternator system failure warning light and tachometer indication of zero. There was no associated shudder, lurching, or other physical indication that engine had failed. No engine service light or other indication was displayed. Vehicle transmission was placed into neutral, restart attempted, and engine resumed normal operation without further incident. This problem has occurred three times in the last 120 days. I contacted the dealer, where the vehicle was purchased - sentry Ford in medford MA. , and the service rep on the phone found no apparent reason for the malfunction or to schedule a diagnostic dealer service appointment, since no engine service light came on, based on my testimonial. He also told me that if the engine service light does not come on, no failure codes are stored in the on board vehicle operation history database and the problem can not be diagnosed and the dealer can not provide assistance or guidance for repair.

40 Power Train problem of the 2005 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 08/05/2010

Approximately 200 miles after factory dealer transmission service we pulled up to an intersection to turn left, after slowing to turn the car became immobile and wouldn't move under it's own power. The transmission just whined and wouldn't engage. Called numerous transmission shops and dealerships describing what happened and every one of them knew what was wrong before I had finished asking my questions.

45 Power Train problem of the 2002 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 01/06/2008

Hit the brakes while driving and the engine revs up. Multiple times to dealer and still not fixed- I requested a new computer or brain for the car while under extended warranty- no go from dealer. On snow this is very scary-on wet roads in florida I put it in neutral and the engine revs when I hit the brakes-when someone gets hit and killed I will be told I should have told someone -multiple drivers and people have been with me when this has occurred- including mechanics from a Lincoln Mercury dealer in orchard park NY.

46 Power Train problem of the 1997 Mercury Sable

Failure Date: 04/15/2003

I should have learned that Sable was a bad car after the engine of my mother's '87 Sable exploded, caught fire and busted through the floor of the car beside the gas pedal and brake (1993). Luckily she was not in the car. The engine had been off and sitting in park for five minutes when this happened. I bought my 97 Sable in 2001. I have never had a car with so many constant problems. I spend about $1200 a year fixing it continually. I'm currently having electrical problems with the radio going out while in reverse or when I press the brake. The window on the passenger side won't move up or down unless the driver and the passenger press the buttons at the same time. The interior light stays on, so we have to unplug the fuse to get it to go off. The seat belt safety light and the window button lights keep clicking on and off. Once again, the steering wheel is hard to turn even though the power steering fluid is at the right level. I have to get the wheels aligned several times a year. The car always makes a humming noise and does not block out the sound of wind. The shoulder straps of seat belts alway lock into place too tight. Name the problem. . . I've probably been through it. I will never buy another Ford/ Mercury again even if it is the #1 selling car.
