1 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 08/25/2020

Bought Mini from carvana a January 2020 and have had too many problems. Car overheated on 48, had 2 new cylinders put in, 2 weeks later, due to many notable problems this car has had, all coolant leaked out and was quoted by Mini dealership $9,000 to fix a problem that was caused by a recall not listed for my year.

2 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 08/13/2018

Vehicle was in motion on a highway and after going over several pot holes the engine temperature warning light came on. The engine power was reduced and an engine failure light also appeared. This is when I pulled over into the off ramp and the vehicle came to a sputtering stop. I placed the car in neutral and pushed it to the dirt side lane of the off ramp. I opened the hood, smelled something burning, and saw smoke coming from the engine. I could see burnt circuits, burnt plastic, and coolant leaking all over the engine and exposed wiring. Had it not been for immediately exiting onto the off-ramp, the vehicle would have stopped in the middle of the highway without warning.

I could have almost died because of the fire; this faulty engineering by BMW/Mini has already taken the life of a driver in south korea. BMW issued a recall of the 2012 Mini Cooper s roadster, but when I had the car towed to one of their service centers, the technicians were unaware of this manufacturing defect and stated that the repair parts are unavailable. I see that my vehicle has been recalled, but when I type in my VIN, no recall is attached to my vehicle. BMW/Mini is taking no action; they are harming and killing drivers of its vehicles.

5 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 04/16/2016

I noted that at idle the engine of my 2009 Mini Cooper was not running smooth and instead beginning to pulsate/vibrate. Within in 3 days I had my Mini at the service center. On the way to the appointment the engine cut off at idle at a stop light but was able to restart. No sensor light. I was informed that there was a timing chain failure. As a result there was extensive damage to the engine. The damage also caused an oil leak so that the engine was running without oil, though I'd recently received an oil change. Additionally, the vacuum pump was also leaking. At no time did any sensor lights come on as a warning, including a check engine, low oil, or low coolant . I was informed that repairs would be upwards of $3500. 00, over half of the value of the vehicle. Despite the class action lawsuit settlement that I inquired about, Mini failed to acknowledge knowledge of the problem. It was my understanding that the settlement of the lawsuit resulted in extending the warranty on these vehicles for the timing chain issue to 7 years/100,000mi. My Mini only had 64,000miles and was within the 7 year mark. Additionally, I learned that Mini had previously issued a recall for the vacuum pump. However, I was repeatedly told that for both of these issues "[my] vehicle was not one of the affected vehicles. ".

6 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2012 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 05/20/2014

Check engine light came on. Cause: heating fault code in diagnosis(thermostat activation). Thermostat, housing , and adapter replaced. Removed and replaced coolant, checked cooling system for leaks. 06/17/2015 check engine light has come on again, and after taking to dealership it appears to be the thermostat again.

7 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 03/21/2014

The thermostat failed, the temperature elevated, the freeze plug fell out/broke out of place causing the head gasket to blow out. The coolant leaked into the oil and caused it to become "milky" therefore blowing out my engine. I was driving on the freeway at the time of the incident and the car failed to accelerate. Luckily people were kind enough to let me pass from the far left lane to the nearest exit and I did not crash.

8 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 08/26/2013

Thermostat housing developed a leak resulting in loss of coolant, engine overheated and warped the head and bent valves.

9 Coolant Leaking problem of the 2007 Mini Cooper

Failure Date: 11/26/2011

I had this car serviced about 4 times during the 4 yr warranty period. Just after the warranty period, the car was checked for brake job and I was informed that the water pump leaks. I think the coolant provable was leaking prior to expiration of warranty but I was not informed. I bought 3 cars in 2007 (Honda and Lexus) and none of them has this issue. 1. Engine coolant leaks. Replace water pump. 2. Engine hood latch won't open. Failed remote latch. The Mini Cooper estimate will cost me $800 to replace the water pump. I also overheard from one of the Mini owner last sat, 26nov2011 during my visit to the dealer that he also has the same issue leaky water pump.
