My mother who owns this 2012 Mini Cooper has suddenly now started having issues with her water pump leaking. I took it to the dealership and was treated with this rude employee by christopher guzman whom had a very unprofessional and no empathy. Very short with responses and sarcasm. Keep in mind my mother is elderly and knows nothing about cars. So I log into to your site and see there is a recall on water pumps but my mother's is not one of them. And guess what her warranty just expired March 2019. Go figure. So if something would have happened to my mother because of defective water pump. And how funny how my moms car was not a recall. I would qualify for that action lawsuit. How does a 2012 water pump just give up with very low mileage 24 000 I would like to escalate this further and an explanation how this could have happened!! look at the milage!.

Thermostat & housing plus water pump have been replaced. Car still runs temps in excess of 230 before fan will come on. I am fearful the engine may get on fire due to heat and therefore, I am not driving it. Took it to the dealer and they removed 2 relays, one of which controlled the engine fan. I replaced the relay.

Bought a 2009 Mini s for my daughter in August of 2015 with 36k miles on it. Since then I've spent over $5000 in repairs and the car is currently parked and not being driven because now the timing chain needs to be replaced. My car is 5 months past the "warranty" period for this service bulletin campaign, and this repair will likely cost another $3000or more I've paid for to repair the oil leak in the turbo line as well as the water pump failing, and replaced the valve cover due to oil leaking, all well known issues with this car. The timing chain and tensioner issues are well known by BMW/Mini as well and there is no recourse for owners of these cars at this point. My car only has 48,000 miles on it! there is no reason for all of these parts to be failing the way they are. I will have spent more than double what I paid for this car before its drivable again. Very unhappy with Mini!!!!!.

Water pump failure. Began to notice small amount of liquid under car in April 2016, thought it was condensation from a/c. Leak worsened and called Mini in June 2016 to check it out. Water pump failure on vehicle with 45,500 miles. Class action lawsuit settlement agreed in California in March waiting on final approval of terms due in November 2016. BMW knows this is a defective part. Water pump failure from defective part could have catastrophic effects if automobile is in motion at any speed.
The water pump and thermostat in this vehicle failed. After getting it replaced at the dealer I learned later there is a recall (that had already been completed). I also learned that the thermostat may have been covered by the federal emissions warranty (the dealer said it wasn't because the light wasn't on).

Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Mini Cooper countryman. The contact stated while driving approximately 40, the engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the turbo charger and the water pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 55,000. Tw.
Driving PA turnpike when my 2007 Minicooper temp light came on, immediately followed the oil and engine light. As the lights appeared, the car was losing power. It lost power as I was pulling off the road. 3 minutes total. Smoke poured out. I opened the hold to see a 3 inch hole melted away. I closed the lid. Contacted Mini roadside service who would not honor the tow. Called aaa who did. Called Mini of pittsburgh, jason thompson, who only serviced my Mini for 4 years and 35,000 miles when he first diagnosed needing a new engine. I asked manager chris lasko about any recalls? could it be a lemon? no this is unusual for a Mini, was the answer. Before authorizing repairs I asked about the electrical system and the effects of overheating. No electrical issues where found. They felt confident recommending replacing a new engine & parts. I okayed to put in all new starter, starter core, engine, engine core, engine harness, collar screw, ping sensor, intake manifold, core return gasket, ignition coils, collar screw, screw with washer, core return with heat pr, srp belt, and coolant, a water pump pulley, and few other 20 some parts to get it back on the road. A month later, I received a letter revealing a potential problem with the durability of a vapor recovery diagnostic pump on 07. Federal emissions defect warranty covers 10year or 120k miles. I called the dealer, they said that it did not pertain to my vehicle. 2015 deja vu at 64k miles. I was driving, commuting when the engine light came on again. I drove 2 miles to my Mini dealer. They said they could fix it by putting in a new engine. I had it towed home. I have called & left email's with BMW/Mini customer service. I have had zero reply from then. They claim to be the ultimate driving machine. As an advertising associate creative director, I think the more honest and real claim would be the ultimate farse machine.
When I was driving highway, a red warning light of "low engine pressure" came on, and the engine started to make noises. Luckily, I was able to come down from the highway, and soon after that, the engine stalled completely. It was a very scary moment. The car was towed to a repair shop, and they reported, "significant oil splash on right side of engine. Added 3 quarts of oil to try and start engine to determine if engine damage had occurred from loss of oil. Vehicle would not start. Vehicle sounded as if chain had jumped timing or engine damage had occurred. Researched vehicle and found technical service bulletin (TSB) relating to seal on timing chain tensioner failing and causing tensioner to leak and loosen. May have loosened, causing jumped timing and possible engine damage. Job requires extensive labor and special tools we do not have. Recommend seeking dealer for futther assistance. The car was towed again to a Mini dealership. Their diagnosis was: found oil leaking out at the timing chain tensioner, oil level low. Crank but not start remove valve cover and found timing was off, re-adjust timing, retorqued timing chain tensioner, performed compression test, 8 cranks for each cylinders cyl 1: 60 psi cyl 2: 55 psi cyl 3: 35 psi cyl 4: 30 psi performed cylinder leak down tests, all were below 50%. Used scope and inspect inside combustion chambers and cylinder walls. Found damaged and cracked wall caused loosing compression. Need new engine required also: water pump leaking and contaminaited the pully, friction wheel and drive belt thermostat is leaking.
I was getting on interstate still on the on ramp when my Mini died and started smoking with no warning. Had to have it towed. Insurance stated it was an electrical wire fire so it isn't covered under insurance. Can Mini pay to have it fixed? the manufacturer should be held liable. I already had to get a new water pump last year that wasn't covered either. These aren't cheap vehicles yet they expect us to pay for the mistake that we did not cause! paid $18k for this car and have put over $3k for repairs with less the 80k miles. Come on Mini Cooper this is terrible business! in my profession if I were to sell a defective part for an oil rig, I would have to replace it even years later. This goes for any profession!.
Bought Mini Cooper in 09/13. Since then the water pump needed to be replaced. Timing chain needs to be replaced. Only driven the car 9 months. I have spent considerable amount of money on this car and haven,t driven it a year yet. It only has 8600 miles on it.
The contact owns a 2009 Mini Cooper. The contact stated that the vehicle stalled while driving approximately 45 mph with the illumination of the check engine warning light. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnosis. The technician stated that the water pump would need to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000. The VIN was not available.
Occupancy air bag light stays on replacement 2 times now on again hit a bump it could at times go off. Replaced the water pump and oil pump not even at 60,000 miles.
I was traveling on NJ turnpike and my vehicle blew up. Catastrophic engine failure. Water pump also broke.
Traveling with no warning, thermometer light came on, turned yellow to red almost immediately, pulled over and called dealership, advised there was recall on water pump for overheating, had car towed immediately; dealership replaced recalled water pump (exterior), but paid $600. 00 for thermostat; left dealership and engine light came on within 30 minutes, had to have it towed again; now car ran hot again, no antifreeze in car, refilled and light went off, 1. 5 days later same occurrence but engine smoking, very badly, towed again to dealership, now states it is water pump #2 (interior) , and timing change which was already supposedly performed on car, now stating I must pay for water pump, tensioner on timing change, valve sensor, and valve cover gaskets another $1000. 00, all of which pertain to the same occurrences over and over and over and over again. I called Mini Cooper call center and they only refer you back to dealership, stating they have no technical knowledge and are unable to assist me, they have no knowledge of the recall items. Wow I thought this problem only belonged to a SAAB I previously owned and eliminated for same reasons. . !.
2009 Mini Cooper. Consumer writes in regards to recall concerning electric auxiliary water pump the consumer has not been able to get the recall fixed, because it would require him to ship the vehicle, as there are no local dealers where the consumer resides. The consumer stated he can not afford to ship the vehicle.
Windshield cracked from the bottom where it meets the hood of the car. Driver's side window does not go down. I only hear a clicking sound. Water pump, oil pan and valve cover gaskets failed prematurely. I can't shift the car into first gear without multiple attempts.
