Front Air Bag Sensor Control Problems of Mini Cooper S - part 2

I have a 2005 Mini cooper. The airbag sensor in the passenger seat failed around 50,000 miles. I was told that the passenger seat had to be replaced at a cost of $1400. 00. This is a know issue with this year of Mini Cooper S. Dealships need to be aware of this problem and Mini/BMW needs to have a recall.

The passenger seat airbag weight sensor has gone bad and as a result, has rendered the entire airbag system inoperable. The vehicle is out of warranty by 4k miles and the local dealer and Mini USA have become non-responsive about fixing an obvious design defect. The replacement part plus labor and factory resetting were quoted at $1900. Searching other online postings reveals that this is a known problem not only for Mini coopers but for parent company bmws as well.

My 2006 Mini cooper s has a defective passenger seat air bag sensor, that I was quoted 16,000$to replace it. This is the exact same part that BMW recalled in 2008. BMW recalled around 150,000 vehicles in north America to fix a possible defect that may keep the front passenger airbag from opening in a crash, the recalled cars include 2006 3-series, 2004-06 5-series and 2004-06 x3 vehicles. Mini uses this same recalled part(Mini being made by BMW), yet has not recalled the part. I know many people that have had this part replaced at there own expense several times. It is a huge safety hazard.

Passenger air bag sensor is defective. The passenger air bag off light, illuminates 3-4 seconds after engine start, along with the red air bag failure light, on the main speedometer. This occurs, whether there is a passenger in the seat, or not, due to this safety defect. Mini cooper dealers, deny this is a problem, however, I have found over 40 other complaints registered on this exact defect !!! major repair cost from the dealer, to change the whole bottom seat cushion assembly, which includes the defective air bag sensor, that separates from the seat cushion, after a short time!.

I have a 2005 Mini cooper. The airbag sensor in the passenger seat failed around 66,000 miles. I was told that the passenger seat airbag and both door sensors had to be replaced along with the battery cable at a cost of $4000. 00. Sounds as if BMW still has real electrical problems in their cars and are sticking it to consumers to fix it instead of fixing these problems themselves. The car has never been involved in any accident.

The airbag sensor light on the center dashboard and "airbag off" light above the rear view mirror turn on when a passenger is in the car. It appears as the passenger airbag sensor is failing to properly detect the passenger's weight.

Faulty passenger seat airbag sensor when an adult passenger weighing between 130 and 140 lbs sits. The airbag system turns off and there is no way to override this automatic sensor. I have taken the car to the dealership Mini (san antonio) two times with no resolution. Mini states there is no error from the system, so they cannot replace this sensor. I demonstrated the issue to several people at the Mini dealership but still no resolution.

I have now had a second failure of the passenger airbag sensor (sensor mat in passenger seat). The first mat failed at 3 months after purchase and the replacement lasted just over 2 years (warranty on part is 2 years).

Passenger airbag deactivates itself while an adult passenger is riding in car. The car does this at random. Dealership has checked the car and says that it is working properly.

Passenger airbag sensor does not sense passenger. Light illuminates stating passenger airbags off. Dealer has replaced sensor seat mat twice and still does has not fixed the problem. After the last fix the Mini tech service advisor sent home with me adding a statement to my file that if you are a certain size/weight and or move in seat light could come on. I do not move around in seat and I my size is not the issue. Is currently at dealer since I had to go through BMW to get a rep to look at. As of today car is not fixed. There were problems with these as told to me by the service advisor and parts manager at BMW and my first seat mat I had to wait 3 months for because of backorder and availability since so many were wrong. My number is large in the # of failures category since everytime I get in the car it takes about 3 -6 failures before I can trigger it to work since may 2007 which is when I bought the car new.

Passenger airbag failure sensor show failure. Have had it "repaired" 3 times. Sensor shows problem within 3 weeks of repair each time. Does the passenger airbag work?.
