Gas Recirculation Valve (egr Valve) Problems of Mitsubishi Eclipse

I had no problem out of car leading up to the point at hand. I started the car and turned on the heat. The car ran for about 30 to 35 minutes. Ar was warm inside, I had to turn the heat off. I left my friends house headed up north i81. My car had no signs of problems. The car shot flames out either side of the car and my engine had exploded. I coasted down the road to put the flames out pulled into the emegency lane. Jumped out told my girlfriend to get out and away from the car. The engine was on fire still at this point. Luckaily a friend of mine had been following me and had something to extinguish the rest of the fire. The car was sold to me with the remainer of the power train warrenty. A Mitsubishi rep read the computer codes. He said since the water temp read 64 degrees the car had been abused. Mitsubishi never contacted me to see if I had maintenance records. Which indeed I do have those documents. Plus I had 7 witnesses that night that knew the heat was working fine, meaning the water temp was above 64 degrees. Now how can a low water temp cause an engine to throw a rod. And catch on fire? o action was taken it actually took Mitsubishi 3 months to decide the care would not be covered under warranty.

A random code failure in the computer lead to repeated engine stalls at stop, and lead to other spark plug fouling and egr valve failure. Problem repeats after code is clearded. Been repaired 5 times now, a 6th on the way. Nlm.

Engine check light was coming on and vehicle was losing gas. Check valve had gone bad and needed to be replaced. Also, dealer said that if in an accident it would't rollover, it could catch on fire.

I had many problems with this car. The first time happened Nov 1997, since I got the car in the spring of 1996, wee I kep my old car and the first winter I used this old car and my new car I kept in the garage. The problem really started the following winter. Every time that the temperure is under 30 degress my car start with the same problem. This car has been back to the dealer so many times. Well this is the problem that I have--- when I drive the car on cold weather the car as I DE-press the clutch pedal to shift the idle drops to zero and stalls. This happen every time that I shift. The last time this happen I was on the highway on my way to work and I got into a car accident. Which right know I sufffer severe problems with my left lower back and shoulder. This was previously reported to your dept. Back in Nov. Of 1998. Please respond!!!!!!!!!.
