2003 Galant ES. V-6 motor. Had to replace heater control valve due to no heat. Clicking noise from time to time then nothing as well as no heat. No sooner did I replace that and then heat selector quit working. Can not change from vents to defrost. Mechanic said heater box warped and cost about 2500. 00 to fix this. Now pulling into the driveway, the radiator burst open on the front side. About a 4 inch opening just to the right side of cap if you are facing the car. Mechanic has said all of this is very common in these cars and Mitsubishi should have done something to take care of these problems as every Galant made has had same issues. .

The contact owns a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. While driving various speeds, the speed would decrease and the vehicle would stall. When the vehicle was restarted, it would only remain on for a few minutes. Occasionally, it would take up to an hour for the vehicle to restart and then stall again. The vehicle was taken to an auto body shop for diagnostic testing. The mechanic stated that the crankshaft wiring harness failed and an ignition sensor failure appeared on the diagnostic. A new crankshaft was installed and the vehicle was driven to the contact's residence, where it began to stall again. The vehicle was taken back to the repair shop and they discovered issues with the wiring heading to the crankshaft. The dealer stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 00v299001 (engine and engine cooling:engine). The failure mileage was unknown and the current mileage was 86,666. Updated 5/26/09

The failure and current mileages were 100,000.
Water leaks into the interior cab on the passenger side of car from the air conditioning unit located under the glove compartment. When making a left turn, the water pours inside cab causing water to pool under the carpet. Also wets the wires and has caused the radio to short out so far.
The car had around 65,000 miles on it, and all the sudden the heat stopped working. Air would blow, but it would be cold air. We replaced the thermostat, as a mechanic told me to try that, and see if it helped, but the heat was still not coming out. Eventually, as it was getting really cold, we took it to the mechanic, and it cost $498. 30 to fix! he said the water shut valve needed to be replaced.
Clicking noise from the vents when switching temperature gauge from cold to hot. No hot air coming from vents. Fan continues to blow cold air while car is at operating temperature. Not the first time it has happened. Heat was restored after a few months just in time before the winter last year. It has happened again this fall and cold air continues to blow as winter approaches.
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant purchased new with 12 miles. I have kept up maintenance on my car and have a manufacturer and extended warranty (bought from the dealer) both covering my car up to 100,00 miles. My car has 91,000 miles. I was driving down the freeway and noticed that my foot was on the gas pedal but the car was slowing down. I immediately began exiting the freeway to the right to at least try to reach the emergency lane before the car died on the freeway. While getting over smoke started coming out the hood entering the car through the air vents, by the time I crossed 4 lanes; my car looked like it was going to blow up. I jumped out the car due to fear once I was able to drift to the side. I had it towed to an auto mechanic shop where they told me my engine and transmission were blown. I had my car towed to a Mitsubishi dealership for repairs and was informed (after a week of getting the run around from Mitsubishi, the dealer, and the extended warranty company) that none of the maintenance would be covered. So, I the consumer have to pay an out of pocket expense of $3500. I was told by Mitsubishi that it was a problem with the radiator, (temperature gauge was stuck) which caused the engine and transmission to go out and since the radiator is not covered by the manufacturer or the extended warranty then none of the repairs were covered. It took the dealer 2 weeks to start work on my car.

Clicks for 10-20 seconds when I switch from ac to heater and back every time. Twice while driving I switched from ac to heater and heard no clicking, but also got no heat (still blowing cold air). Started happening after about 5,0000, and has been ongoing for a few months.
The contact owns a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. On July 10, 2007, while driving 45 mph, the vehicle stalled. The contact had to wait five minutes before the vehicle would restart. The stalling becomes more frequent as time progresses. Recall # 00v299001 (engine and engine cooling:engine) does not apply to her VIN. The current and failure mileages were 90,000.
Since purchase of 2002 Mitsubishi Galant have had numerous problems with squeaking brakes, rotors replaced twice since purchased 7/05. Was told by dealer that squeaking was from driving habits; nothing wrong with brakes. Had to take vehicle to private mechanic. Also, problems with air conditioning. Hot air blows out bottom vents by floor. Air doesn't get cold either. Have had vehicle air conditioner charged both last spring and also this spring. Within 2 weeks air only gets semi-cool and floor vents blow really hot air at all times. This vehicle is a disgrace. More trouble than enjoyment. Only good thing is appearance and style. Mitsubishi has had numerous complaints about both the brakes and air conditioning on their 2002 Galantes. Poor quality automobile.

Heat is not working in 2002 Mitsubishi Galant. Replaced thermostat and flushed coolant system. Still no heat. Heater has mad a buzzing noise when turning on for past two years. Now this year no heat. I saw that many people have had this problem on Mitsubishi forum website. If this is such a common problem there should be a recall. I have a 2 year old daughter and I need heat in the winter. I would like to request that there be a recall on this problem.
Galant 2003, 55,000kms, grinding sound when turning the heater temp dial, sounds like heater control motor.
2001mitsubishi Galant ES, I want to drive a safe car with no fire or accidents,I found 7 recalls for this year and make I went to the Mitsubishi at 34-54 44th. Street long island city 718-361-6900 service advisor anthony serrone told me that there was no recall for my car and I made an appointment for 01/04/09 at 8:00 am to inspect my car for danger signs check engine light stays on all the time, I was told I need idle control module to be installed and noise from the bottom and braking makes rough sound and the smell of fuel in the car and feel heat from the bottom of the car.
Faulty water pump caused auto to run hot causing extensive damage to engine dealership/extended warranty wil not cover damages to engine, they only replaced water pump auto under warranty.
Third water pump gone on this vehicle.

Airconditioning leaks from beneath glove compartment. Drained twice but company will not repair if there is the presence of any outside material such as a leaf, a piece of debris that they claim is in the system. Dealer repair stated that there is something in the body that is allowing debris to get in and when consumer indicated that was a car defect dealer said that there was nothing they could do. Therefore, defect in body caused problem with cooling system and neither is covered by warranty. Consumer is actively seeking remedy for this problem. Car handles like garbage. Tires have been replaced, brakes, alignment done twice and the car pulled to the right still. After brakes were done car actually pulled more to left. The car stinks. Steering said to have no problem yet see above. The car stinks.
I purchased a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant in December 2002. Since purchasing the car the brakes and rotors have been replaced every year. Also, there is a huge list of other parts and replacements that have been done; the most recently timing belt, water pump, valve cover and gasket, heater hot water control, valve, thermostat for cooling system, etc. This car only has 44,000 miles, and it works as if it has over 200,000 miles.
No summary. Dt.

Thermostat stuck causing engine overheating. Also, ac runs cold and then warm in city driving. On the highway it is cold. A severe vibration occurs in city driving with the air conditioner on also. I have to turn the air off to make it quit. I contacted the dealer about both of these problems and because it is not under 36k miles they will not do anything else about it.
Vehicle overheated and there was black smoke coming from underneath. Also, transmission fluid was leaking.
Consumer was traveling at approximately 55 mph when car started vibrating and smoke was coming from engine. Dealership stated that head gasket had cracked. Consumer also stated prior to head gasket failure, coolant was leaking from engine, cylinder head was warped, radiator also partially melted.
