Trunk Lid Problems of Mitsubishi Galant

The contact owns a 1999 Mitsubishi Galant. The contact stated that the vehicle exterior paint was oxidized with chipping on the hood, roof and trunk lid. 2003 black Mitsubishi Galant - the paint began oxidizing on the roof and spread to the trunk lid and hood of the car. The dealer and Mitsubishi refuse to help despite having sold cars with a latent defect. The car is greatly devalued and this is apparently a wide spread problem. Please help.

The contact owns a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. Two weeks after the dmv inspected the vehicle, the srs light illuminated. The contact has owned the vehicle since the end of February 2007. According to the mechanic, the computer indicated that there was no driver side air bag in the vehicle. The dealer stated that the owner was responsible for having the air bag replaced. They also stated that if the vehicle failed inspection, they would have given her a refund or made the repair. The srs light will dim when the air bag is replaced. The contact stated that the horn will not work while the srs light is illuminated. She received a carfax report prior to purchasing the vehicle, which indicated that the vehicle was not involved in any crashes. She also stated that the trunk does not open from the passenger compartment. The fuel system and powertrain were unavailable. The VIN was invalid. The failure mileage was 83,305 and current mileage was 91,829.

The contact stated while adjusting the driver's side seat foot hits the trunk opener, causing the trunk to come open. Thhis e contact contacted the dealership, but has not contacted the manufacturer.

Spring 2003 my 1999 black Mitsubishi Galant starting have problems with the clear coat. It began fading and cracking on the back side of my moonroof. It has now spread over the entire top of my car, the trunk lid and now has begun on my hood. I called the local Mitsubishi dealership back in July of 2003 while the car was still under warranty and was basically told that I would either have to pay to have it painted to leave it. Last month we took the car in for a free inspection promotion they were doing and had the service manager take a look at it. He said he had not seen anything like that happen to a car and would have the kansas city representative come down and take a look at it. He also apologized that the service rep. I had talked to before blew me off. The kansas city rep. Came down and said Mitsubishi would not pay for it that I had set something on my car to cause the sun to burn or fade the clear coat. We have taken very good care of our car and have never put anything on it. I have done some research and have found several 1999 and 2000 owners with the same problem. Should Mitsubishi be responsible for this? something needs to be done!.

Since purchase, trunk lid will close forcefully and without notice on a persons head, neck or back as they are retrieving items from the trunk if there is any wind. The cruise control light comes on sometimes when you start the car.
