I have a 2004 Galant ES,the paint is oxidizing really bad-you can actually see the raw product-before they painted the car,at the factory.
I own a 2003 mitzubishi Galant. The exterior paint started fading approximately one year after I purchased the vehicle and now the entire hood, roof, and trunk area have oxidized and faded to the metal. The car only has 40,000 miles on it! there was clearly negligence on the part of the manufacturer in completing the paint process. I have checked with other owners of this year and make vehicle and have found that they have the same complaint. It would be nice if the manufacturer would at least pay half if not all the cost of repainting this vehicle.

Our 2002 black Mitsubishi Galant has paint fading on the trunk and top. Two bodyshops have told us this is common with Mitsubishi due to the clear coat used. This is a well maintained car with only 70,000 miles and looks terrible.

Paint fading on hood, roof and trunk of my 2004 Mitsubishi Galant.
Black paint on car is coming off despite proper care and garage.
Black 2003 Mitsubishi Galant ES paint is fading and cracking on the roof and trunk of the car. I've noticed through my travels that this seems to be a common problem with Galants.
Paint defect leads t rapid oxidation and rusting of car.
I am an owner of a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant (black). My paint started fading/oxidizing about a year ago. I went to the dealership, they took pictures and had me submit my maintenance records and jump through a bunch of hoops just to tell me my vehicle was out of warranty and they weren't going to do anything to help me!.
At about 50k miles both rear windows failed, went down on their own and won't go back up, I had to wedge them up to keep the in place. The paint on the rear bumper is oxidizing rapidly, this car has been parked in a garage for the entire time I have owned it. At about 90k miles I took my car in for a check engine light, it was a catalytic converter, I was told that the recall had expired and I would have to pay $1100 to replace the part. I sent an email to Mitsubishi that was unreturned.
About a year after purchasing this vehicle in 2007, the paint began to wear off. It started chalking and chipping and I've noticed pretty much every Mitsubishi I see on the road has the same issue. This is ridiculous that they are allowed to put out such cars and be neglegent on the paint job. We all pay good money for these and Mitsubishi only recalled the "black paint" they need to recall them all because all of them are in horrible shape. Mitsubishi needs to be held accountable. !!!!!!! I shouldnt have to pay thousands of dollars to get my car painted. . . It shouldnt even need painted yet. I'll never purchase another.
I am an owner of a 2003 Mitsubishi black Galant. I am the original owner of the vehicle and it is garage-kept. About a year ago, I started noticing the paint on my vehicle started to fade/oxidize. I reported this to Mitsubishi and they did nothing. I did my research and there are thousands of other Galant owners that are experiencing the same problem. I believe a recall needs to be done. It wasn't even a month after my vehicle was paid off that the paint started to faint. First on the roof, then on the hood, now it's spreading like a rash. Something needs to be done and Mitsubishi will not fix the problem because they claim the vehicle is out of warranty.
The contact owns a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant. On the driver side of the roof and hood, the paint is fading from dark black to light gray. The fading worsens after the vehicle is washed. She took the vehicle to an auto body shop and was informed that the clear coating on top of the black paint was causing the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer has not been notified. The failure and current mileages were 55,000.
The contact owns a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant. While the contact was examining his vehicle he noticed that the black paint on the vehicle began falling off. The vehicle has not been diagnosed by the dealer. The current mileage was 113000 and the failure mileage was 95000.

I have an 03 black mit. Galant and the paint has faded on the trunk and top close to the sunroof. I keep my car under a carport. The car is not paid for and it already looks very old. I have also noticed other cars this same model and color and the paint is fading too. It seems the company would repaint these cars since it is obvious that the paint wasn't of any quality.
The paint on the roof/hood of my 2002 Mitsubishi Galant has faded badly. I read dozens of complaints from people online who own Mitsubishi Galants regarding mysterious paint problems on the hoods of their cars. Common problems reported is paint fading badly on the hood, roof, and trunk from owners who have had their car for only a few years. I've only had my car for two years and the roof of my car has faded badly through no fault of my own. These paint problems have been given completely unsatisfactory excuses by Mitsubishi and as a result multiple forums and websites. Mitsubishi some how neglected to add the clear coat protection to all black paint and apparently have admitted to this but have not taken any steps to remedy the situation. I believe that this matter can be brought to Mitsubishis attention via a class action suit. They should be held responsible for the products they sell.
I have a 2001 black Mitsubishi Galant and last year the paint start oxidizing really bad. So after I had several people advise me that the paint should not be this way on a 5 yr old car (at the time) I called the corporate office. I was told they were not aware of any issues with the paint. I called back a few months later and was told they were aware of the problem and that I should take it to the local dealer so they could determine if it was defective. After taking pictures the dealer and corporate agreed the paint job was defective. They had my car for 1. 5 weeks without providing me with a car to drive. I got my car back today and the areas they painted look great, but they didn't paint the whole car so colors do not match. Within a year there is going to be a huge difference. The corporate office said they refuse to do anymore about it. Where has customer service went. I for one will never buy another Mitsubishi made product at all. If you google black Mitsubishi Galants with bad paint jobs you will see that there are hundreds of people with this problem. It looks like the problem started with the 1999 models and continues to the 2001 models. I'm sure the 2002's will be next. I have seen at least 5 more in my area with this problem and when I am able to speak with the owners I will ensure that they are aware that it is due to a defective paint job.

The paint on my car is fading away. The car is 6 years old and this has been going own for about 3 years. I feel it should be covered by the car company to get this fixed. I've seen other cars in town with the same problem as mine. So its got to be the paint from the company that made the car.
Im complaining about my black paint on my Galant. I bought it in 05 and byt the beginning of 06 my paint was oxidized and flaking. The roof has rusted through the paint. It looks terrible and its going cost over 2000 just to get it painted when the paint that was used to paint it was of poor quality?! Galants that are older and are black look better than mines and even the Galants with dents and scratches look better than mines because their paint is still glossy. Please fix this thank you.
The paint on my car is fading, I see white spots on the hood, trunk and roof of car. The car is black. I see many other, same type, cars with this problem. The body shop told me it is a defect from when it was painted.
I bought my car brand new (02 mits. Galant - black) and the paint and clear coat has been fading. It started on the trunk in a small spot and now has spread to the roof and hood. I was told by mits. That there are no recalls, therefore they aren't able to assist me since I now have over 100,000 miles on the car. I was advised by cheryl (customer service rep) that they have a business to run and that since I'm outside of the warranty parameters they aren't able to help me. After searching the internet I've noticed that there are several consumers with the same problem. It seems that mits. Is aware of the problem, but they aren't willing to acknowledge it.

My paint on my car started to fade a year ago. Its a shame that my car is only 3 yrs old and looks 10yrs old. I bought my car brand new and I'm making payments now I hate to make my payments because my car looks so bad.
We purchased a new 2001 Mitsubishi Galant in December 2001. It is black. The car is now 3. 5 year sold and the paint is turning white. It started to have a problem 3 months after purchase when the clear coat started to crack. They re-painted the roof. Now is is over the mileage for coverage under the warranty. The paint is fading so fast and turning white. Mitsubishi is giving us the run around. We have even contacted corporate and they push us off on someone regional that continues to give us the run around. They have had two outside professionals look at it, and they both say the paint is definitely failing way before it should. That it is defective. This car has had multiple problems since we bought it, has been in the shop over 35 days.
Clicking noise when turning the air from hot to cold or cold to hot. Clicking noise stopped and heat no longer works. I have no defrost/defog which causes problems with visibility. I am taking the car in for repairs this week. Paint faded and corroded on the hood, trunk, roof, quarter panels, and door panels in 2004. I took it to the dealership and was told they couldn't do anything about it. I have recently taken it to a body shop and had it repainted.
