1 Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

Hydraulic clutch system degradation and failure. Manual shifting became more and more difficult to the point of discovering a leaking slave cylinder. Upon replacement, symptoms remained. Comments from owners of similar vehicles note that both slave cylinder and master cylinder failures are often concurrent. Master cylinder is looking particularly grimy compared to the rest of engine bay. Replacement master cylinder is on order, can report on follow up conditions soon. (assuming such information is helpful, and that such follow up communication is available. ) vehicle is a 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer ralliart (this option was not available on the website).

2 Manual Transmission problem of the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 02/10/2010

I first noticed that my 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer evolution mr started to make a grinding/scrapping noise that seemed to be generating from the timing belt area. The car had approximately 30,000 miles on the odometer. It seemed to be a noise that was present at idle and upon cold start ups. I started to research this on various forums and internet, only to find that it was a common problem with a clear solution. There have been a few dealerships who have seemed to have resolved this issue but each fix seemed to vary within the timing belt area. The timing belt, sensor blade, tensioner, tensioner pulleys, etc. Have been known to cause this issue. The dealership that "fixed" my timing belt area grinding noise suggested that I replace the timing belt only, which I did. Only to have the problem resurface about 2500 miles later. I am unwilling to keep putting timing belts in my car to temporarily fix the problem. It scares me that the dealer keeps trying to go down this same road with the same conclusion. This car is my daily driver and about 90% of the times my kids are in this car with me. It would be terrible if my engine brakes down on me while driving around with my kids in the car. This can be a dangerous problem. I urge Mitsubishi to strongly consider a recall for this. With such an amazing car I would hope Mitsubishi would standby it and do the right thing!.

3 Manual Transmission problem of the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 07/10/2009

2009 Lancer, clutch went out at under 20,000 miles. I have been reading of many clutch problems in past models, is there a trend here. I have owed 15 cars, half have been manual transmission. I have only had to replace 2 clutches: Mitsubishi 3000 gt at 40,000 and the Lancer at 18,000. I have a 10 year old Jeep wrangler manual that my kids learned to drive on with about 70,000 miles with it's original clutch.

5 Manual Transmission problem of the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 01/02/2009

I bought a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer in may of '08. I traded in my '04 Lancer at that time with 145,000kms. All original parts except for brakes. I moved to bc in Aug '08 from alberta where I had bought my car. I was coming home from christmas in ab on Jan. 2/09 when the hinge on my drivers side window broke, and my clutch started to slip. I drove my my car an hour and a half to the nearest Mitsubishi dealership the next day. The mechanic that day told me that the rear seal had a leak, that oil had been spraying likely through the clutch and that I was lucky to have made it. When a different person called me on Monday, he said that when they took it apart, the seal had been factory installed wrong and that's what was causing the oil to leak. However, there was no trace of oil in the clutch and that it was worn. He told me that they will cover the seal and the window, I would have to pay for the clutch. I have driven manual for over 10 years. I have driven to ab and back 4 times in my new car, so 80% of the 30,000kms on it are hwy driven. I got 145,000kms and 4 1/2 yrs on the last Lancer I bought, and traded it in with the original clutch. I have talked to mgr's and supervisor's, and they all go back and talk to the mechanic. Saying that I am responsible. No second opinion. Leaving me to cover the cost of a new clutch ($600). I have since found reports that there have been previous problems with clutches on older models. Could there not be problems with new ones too? especially when 2 other major breaks happened on the same day on my car? both factory problems.

11 Manual Transmission problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 04/15/2008

The gear shifts are extremely notchy and cause frequent grinding when shifting to gears 2 and 3. It does not matter if I am upshifting or downshifting. The problem is pronounced during cold engine conditions. Grinding continues to happen even in warm conditions. There have been many times when the car lost power and slowed down in the middle of a road because I could not shift in time due to the grinding.

12 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

14 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 10/15/2005

Car had manual transmission problems roughly at 30k, transmission problems again, needed to be replaced, not covered under warranty. Car is rusting on frame, on exterior, carpet inside is paper thin, road salt had eaten through it - already have visible rust on wheel well. This car is pathetic, wouldn't give this make to my worse enemy. I will be making another phone call to Mitsubishi motors. Definitely a lemon in every sense of the word.

15 Manual Transmission problem of the 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 10/01/2004

Vehicle does not always want to shift into first. This could cause an accident as you are unable to choose your gear selection.

16 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 06/10/2004

My manual transmission in my Lancer evolution started to feel rough around 350 miles I thought in was normal since it was a new car. But around 1700 miles the problem got worse I took it to the attention of the dealer where I purchased it form but the mechanic said it was fine, so I took it home the way it was. I now have 5000 miles and my clutch is all worn out and my dealer refuses to fix the problem even though I have never abused of the car I am still trying to break it in. So I think it does not make since that I would have to change my clutch 20 times before my 100,000 miles. So I don't think the clutch went out under normal wear and tear there has to be something wrong with this car there have been to many complaints about the same problem.

17 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 06/08/2004

I had 12000 miles on my car it is 7 months old. I am the original owner and iv been driving manual cars for over 8 years. Never had any transmission problems be for they had to replace some syncros because it would grind between fourth and fith gears at highway speeds. And they also made a comment on how worn my clutch is and that my fly wheel is scored. Every now and then when I start off I smell my clutch burning and smoke comes out of my exhaust and they say its from abuse when its not.

18 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Mitsubishi Lancer evolution 8.

19 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 05/22/2004

I have had problems with the clutch on this vehicle. I have only 7,000 miles on the vehicle. 5th gear synchros went bad. This is not acceptable. The dealership specifically advised they have had numerous complaints about this, and it should be recognized.

20 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 11/13/2003

Ecu registers p0300 (multiple cylinder misfire) obdii error code. Error code is thrown, ses light comes on, and car stumbles until throttle is released. This typically occurs at light throttle or cruising (steady) throttle. It can occur under load (acceleration) but never occurs on deceleration. Known facets of this problem thus far are: 1) Mitsubishi is aware of 2 issues: sticky (dirty) injectors and a transmission harmonic resonance, which throws the knock sensor 2) the car is undriveable when this occurs until the throttle is released. 3) my vehicle in particular is almost 100% undriveable on the highway due to this problem recurring every 10-15 seconds during any sort of highway driving period. 4) it _is_ a safety issue as I have had this occur under light acceleration attempting to merge into traffic, only to be met with what feels like a wall when the error code is thrown and the ecu retards the timing because it is detecting knock (which is not actually occurring). 5) Mitsubishi (mmna) is apparently aware of an ecu reflash fix for this problem (the harmonic resonance issue, not the injector issue). They have claimed that the flash will be out "within 3-6 weeks" since November 2003, and it is still not out nor available. I have been told it is held up in epa certification. This problem has occurred for me literally hundreds of times, and no dealership has been able to fix it because Mitsubishi will not authorize any warranty work on my vehicle for this problem, citing that "a fix is already on the way, wait for it. ".

21 Manual Transmission problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 03/23/2003

The transmission in my 2003 evolution is sometimes very rough going into second gear. The tranny feels as if the gears are grinding for a second before engaging; I have brought this up to the attention of mitusbishi corporate and several service depts and they do not appear to be concerend. This is an issue that a lot of evolution owners are experiencing.
