36 Service Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 07/02/2006

I have a 2003 Nissan Altima 2. 5 s. For the last 6 months my car has been stalling periodically. The stall occurs anytime at any speed. When the engine stalls I lose power steering and power brakes. I have had several close call potential accidents, while trying to stop the vehicle with no brakes and no steering. I took the vehicle to the dealer but they could not tell me what the problem was. Just yesterday the car stalled 5 times and finally the service engine light went on. The code indicated that the camshaft position sensor is faulty.

37 Service Engine Light On problem

Customer took her car in for service, was told that nothing was wrong but the service engine light was flashing after that the car stopped in the middle of the road, then after that the car would not start at all customer wants to be reimbursed*.

38 Service Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2006

The service engine soon light began to appear in mid to late June. I have taken my vehicle to two different mechanical establishments and they have ran the vehicle through their scanners and can not find the problem. They have replaced the resister on the transmission however the car continues to shift hard. Nissan has a bulletin about problems on the transmission solenoid but it has not been reported as a recall. My car has reduced engine power and has stopped on me once while I was driving. My vehicle has been serviced thoroughly and the service engine soon light is still on.

39 Service Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 05/12/2006

1. Car stalled and once I held the gas pedal down and was able to hold the key over and crank the engine a huge puff of black smoke came out of the car and it seemed to run fine, although the service engine light came on. It eventually went away after a week or so. 2) a week or so later I started the car, it turned over fine but had no power, it simply would not go. It did not even realize I was pushing on the accelerator. 3) I removed the key from the ignition in frustration and then tried again. The second time the car worked fine. It revved when I put my foot on the gas pedal and then took off just fine. 4) this began to be a more common occurrence and if I took the key out or waited a few minutes it would straighten up. 5) not now! the car won't move forward. And now it is even starting to stall out and flood. 6) now the battery even seems to be running down. This has all taken place in the matter of about the past 5 weeks and now it won't move forward or run at all.

40 Service Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/21/2006

For the past few days, car has been stalling and refusing to start up. Once, it happened on the freeway and luckily the traffic was not heavy, so could manage to take it to the shoulder. Managed to restart the car after a few minutes of trying. Service engine light turns on, and there is hardly any power when you press the accelerator. Took it to a mechanic, and he told me the crank position sensor needs to be replaced. Searched online and found that there was a recall for this exact symptom, but when I called the dealer, my VIN # does not have a recall. That is so strange. I hope Nissan realizes that there are other Altima's from 2003 that have the same problem.

41 Service Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2006

Service engine light came on all of a sudden with no warning and car stopped in middle of road. I put it back into gear and started it again - it did this 4 times within a 2 mile range. My brother put some transmission fluid in it which seemed to help a little bit. Luckily an auto parts store was near by and I made it over there for them to run a diagnostic check on it. Came back with bad crank position sensor. I finally made it home and made arrangements to get it serviced the next day. Made it to dealership with a lot of prayer because it was 15 miles away. I guess the transmission fluid helped a bit too. They replaced the crank position sensor at $170 and a whole day out of work. Today I got a recall notice on it - 5 months later. Yeah.

42 Service Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 09/22/2005

2003 Nissan Altima - 2. 5 liter engine: engine stalled without warning and the service engine soon light came on. The engine was diagnosed and the cause was failure of the crank position sensor. There was no warning before the engine stalled. The engine stalled approximately 8 times before I was able to correct the problem. The engine did not start right away after stalling. The starter engaged for a lengthy period before the engine would start again. I did have some difficulty maneuvering the vehicle to a safe stop since the power steering doesnt work when the engine stalls. My wife had an even more difficult time due to strength differences.

43 Service Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2004

The contact owns a 2003 Nissan Altima. While driving 25 mph and below, the engine stalled. The vehicle would restart after ten minutes and the service engine warning light illuminated. The failure occurred intermittently. Prior to the failure, the vehicle was serviced for NHTSA campaign id number 06v242000 (engine and engine cooling). The failure occurred more frequently after the ecm was reprogrammed. The crankshaft position sensor was replaced twice, but the failure still persists. The powertrain was unknown. The failure mileage was 25,000 and current mileage was 92,000.

44 Service Engine Light On problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2003

Service engine soon light came on, engine stop without warning while driving. This happened to me 3 times, fortunately I was not on the freeway. I know this is a part of the recall on all 2002 vehicles, recall day was Nov 04 2003. My car is 2003 but I bought it on Nov 15th 2003. Nissan should do the recall on all 2003 also. I brought the car to Nissan dealer, on the first service, they charged me for $872. 73, I talk to the service director and showed him all the documents about the safety recall, he said my car is 2003, and also said this is a different problem. I said ok and paid the service by credit card. When I brought the car home, the car won't last longer than 24 hrs, this time I was driving on the freeway while exiting the freeway, I am very lucky I am still alive. The same problem that happened before I brought the car to dealer: service engine light came on, car stopped while driving without warning. This time the service director took care of the problem by fixing the problem that I showed him one day earlier: that is replace the crank position sensors, camshaft position, which all included in the recall on 2002, NHTSA campaign id number. The worst thing was the dealer tried to charge me for 2nd service that is almost $300. 00, I'm so upset and bring up to the service director, he voided the charge but still charged me for the part = $37. 84 includes tax. I'm in the process to work with my credit card to dispute about all the charge.
