The passenger airbag seems to be faulty due to a sensor fail. So the airbag light malfunctions and the airbag won't work. Since this is clearly a safety issue, I was hoping you would look into a recall. It is a problem a significant number of 2009 Nissan Altima owners seem to have (see https://m. Carcomplaints. Com/Nissan/altima/2009/seat_belts_air_bags/air_bags. Shtml).
The vehicle has had problems with the passenger airbag several times even if someone was sitting in it. The light would flash off and on and then go off. Now the light stays on and also shows the airbag light on the instrument panel now as well. Have had it checked by the dealership and they said the sensor is faulty. They want around $2500 to replace the seat cushion and cant ensure that it will match. This is a ridiculous amount as well as a safety issue. After researching this is a ongoing problem among numerous Nissan owners of this year. The cars value is not worth it and it cant be sold to anyone else due to the safety issue of the airbag light. The connections have been checked and nothing is loose or broken. I believe a recall needs to be done on all vehicles affected with this issue. This is a liability that would fall on Nissan due to they have recalled some models and years already with this issue but refuse to fix this problem. I have been trying to get a remedy to this issue for many months now only to be told by Nissan they cant do nothing.
Upon starting vehicle, the red airbag indicator light never stops flashing and passenger airbag off light is illuminated, even with adults in both front seats. Problem continues while driving and with subsequent use. Sudden failure of airbag sensors.
2009 Nissan Altima passenger airbag sensor issue. The airbag light that indicates when the airbags are on/off remains lit at all times. This includes nothing in the seat, and when a person is riding in seat. After inspection dealership confirmed it was the passenger side occupancy sensor; a short occurred within the unit. (see diagnostic information pictured) the vehicle is affected by this issue at all times and under all circumstances.
I first started noticing the passenger airbag light flashing off and on when I would place a heavy item in the seat. I was in my driveway with the car running. Then the same thing happened with a passenger in the seat. Then it eventually was saying that the passenger airbag was turned off wither there was a passenger or not. I took to a Nissan dealership and they told me it was an occupant sensor fail b1018 and I would have to get it fixed before my next state inspection or it wouldn't pass. They want $2879. 49 just for the part. The trade in value is not worth that much according to kbb. My understanding is that other Nissan owners are having the same problem. This is clearly a fail that Nissan should take responsibility for.
The passenger airbag OCS has quit working causing the passenger air light to stay on saying passenger airbags are off and the red airbag light to flash. Called dealer and they say sensor has went out in passenger seat but they need to look at it. My vehicle is unsafe to be on the road being the airbag system is faulty. I'm reporting because I know not only one and Nissan should be responsible for fix for cars like mine. They already recalled newer models and they need go back further in the year models.
Air bag light comes on periodically no airbag. Problem since 2014; along with steering lock failure (fixed), along with manifold exhaust problem(fixed). Windshield wipers keep wearing out, left driver side because blade is too tight; brakes vibrate when stopping,;car vibrates at 70 mph, and car sounds like wind tunnel when driving highway yet windows are up.
The airbag light is blinking on and off. I need to know if there is a recall on the sensor.
My passenger side air bag light or airbag light keeps blinking/flashing for over a year. The Nissan dealer wants to charge $160 to look at it. It just started blinking one day.
I love my Altima. But recently it's an expensive pain in the neck. Recently my airbag lights came on. Took it to the mechanic and he said my airbag sensors are not working. Since the sensors is in the seat, I have to pay $3,100 to replace the bottom cuahion in the passenger side of my car. My has wasn't in an accident, there was no moisture in my car to cause this problem. I've looked online and airbag sensor on the passenger side of Altimas has gotten a lot of complaints. This is not a cheap fix and there's too many Nissan owners complaining about their 2009 nisaan Altimas passenger airbag sensor failure. Nissan need to fix this before someone gets hurt.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the air bag warning indicator illuminated consistently without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the sensor failed on the passenger side of the vehicle. The seat bottom assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 66,000.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the front passenger side air bag warning indicator remained illuminated at all times. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a mass sensor failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
Passenger occupant sensor has failed. The amber passenger occupant dashboard light always remains on. This means that even with the seat occupied by an appropriate sized adult, the light says the occupant is not being 'sensed'. Also, the control panel above the steering wheel has a red flashing airbag light. The Nissan dealership says the error code indicates a failure in the passenger seat occupant airbag sensor. My cost is at least $2400 to replace the passenger seat. I am unable to pay that kind of money. I am hoping for a Nissan recall or technical bulletin on that make, model and year. I see many other years of this make and model had the issue and the manufacturer fixed them at no cost. That is what I am hoping for. This car has never had an accident. This just happened out of the blue.
Takata recall - although my car has not yet been affected by he recall I believe that it will be. The passenger airbag sensor is faulty which affects the amber dashboard passenger airbag light from working properly which therefore will not allow the airbag to deploy if in an accident. Or more so allowing the airbag to deploy at any given time without being in an accident. This sensor disarms the whole airbag system from working properly which is a serious safety hazard.
Traveling on the highway at about 70 mph, the air bag indicator went off signaling that there was no air bag. The next day, it went off signaling or indicating that there was no air bag, but only on the passenger side.
Throughout the duration of owning this car, the passenger airbag light will appear as "deactivated" when there is an adult female (weighing 150 lbs) sitting in the passenger seat. The approximate date and vehicle mileage are unknown but it has happened on multiple occasions.
I went to shop-rite at 6 am to purchase lunch meat for my daughters school lunch. When I went to start the car it would not start. I thought it was the battery so I read the car manual on how to jump a car battery. In the car manual on page 0-12, the warning /indicator lights, page. I saw a picture of the warning indicator that was on my dash board and it had a page number 2-26. On the page it read" it is a security indicator light, to call the dealership" the car would not start with the push button. The car does not have a back up key entry either. So I was stranded at the supermarket. I had to call a tow truck in order for me to get home. I had the company who towed the car and who has been servicing our family cars for years call Nissan to see how Nissan can fix the car. Nissan advised that this part is not under warranty or under any recall and that there is nothing that they can do. They said it will cause me an estimated $3000 dollars to get the car fixed. Mind you the car is only 3 1/2 years old and I am still making car payments. Ray and dana who towed and fixed the car doubled checked for me to see if this part was under a Nissan recall or if this part is under warranty, to my surprise it is not. I can't believe that a push button car does not have a back up to start a car when the push button malfunction. This does not make any sense. I can not believe that there is no alternate way of starting a car when a push button does not work. Thank goodness that this happened close to home and not while I was out with my daughters. How can a car be built with out any back up plan. Better yet how can this happen to a 3 year old car with only 70297 miles. Also my tires have been recalled and the engine was recalled and lastly my passenger air bag goes on when it wants to. I am paying so much money for a lemon and no one can help me. I will never buy a Nissan again.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag indicator remained illuminated and the driver's side air bag indicator flashed continuously. The vehicle was taken to weston Nissan (3650 weston rd, davie, FL 33331, (954) 888-6800) and the contact was informed initially that the repair would be covered since it was under warranty when the vehicle was bought back in 2012. When the contact finally called to schedule an appointment, the dealer stated that they would charge for the recall repair. The manufacturer stated that there was nothing they could do since there was no recall and the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was 2,500.
Passenger side airbag light comes on and stays on with adult (150 lbs plus) in the passenger seat. This happens about 50% of the time. Nissan has been aware of this problem for years and so far has done little to correct the problem. The problem started the first month after purchase of the new vehicle on 4-20-2009 and was reported to the dealer. They found no trouble with the airbag system.
Tl the contact owns a 2009 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the air bag indicator illuminated. Route 17 Nissan (45 NJ-17, hasbrouck heights, NJ 07604, 1-(855) 247-9368) was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed to determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not included in any air bag recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified and stated that the VIN was excluded from an air bag recall campaign. The failure mileage was not available.
Since purchase as new in 2009, occasionally when my wife is in passenger seat, the disable air bag light comes on. I took vehicle to dealership and they said they found no problem. Suggesting that maybe my wife was not heavy enough for '(sensor)" to detect. !!!??? my concern with recent news of defective air bags that when we travel together that the "(occupant detection system)" is not working properly and my wife as a passenger is not protected in the event of a accident. The disabled air bag light does not light up all the time and is only occasionally, but this does not give one a felling of security and safety. With recent cnn & fox news as well as local tv news concerning (air bags) makes one to wonder about the safety of our 2009 Nissan Altima.
I was not aware of your agency until a few weeks ago that is why I am sending this e-mail to you. My 2009 Altima was approximately 3-4 months old when I was sitting in the passenger seat (my husband was driving) the no air bag light came on for me. I notified alhambra Nissan, alhambra, California and they told me that there was nothing wrong. The problem continued for 3 years and every time I advised alhambra Nissan and they kept telling me nothing was wrong (I have documentation showing all the times this issue was brought up). In 2013 I advised alhambra Nissan I was still having problems with the air bag sensor, they told me to contact the Nissan corporation. I placed several calls with them and one of the representatives had the nerve to tell me that if Nissan took every silly complaint of a customer they would be out of business. Finally a report was made with them. I was advised by them that I would have to have the dealership see it when it occurred. When it occurred my husband drove me to the dealership they took pictures and ran some type of test with a laptop. I was told they would notify me when to return vehicle. I received a phone call and returned the vehicle. They replaced the seat on the passenger front were they told me that the sensor was located. When the replacement was done I picked up my vehicle. I drove it for several days and never had a chance to sit in the passenger side to test if it occurred again. When I did it occurred again my husband drove me back they took pictures again and did testing with a laptop and said they would get back to me. When they did I was told that per the Nissan corporation my vehicle is functioning as it should. I see that the 2013 Altima is recalled for the same issue that I have had for 4 years. I also see that 2003-08 has been recalled for same reason. Can you help me with this issue.
The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the passenger side air bag indicator illuminates whenever a light weight passenger is seated in the front seat. The manufacturer was notified and stated that anyone over 110 lbs. Was meant to sit in the back seat of the vehicle and the air bag indicator was performing normally. The failure mileage was 2,500.
