Transmission slipping when vehicle slows. Sometimes the car dies as a result. When trying to accelerate, transmission slips out of gear thus causing a safety hazard such as getting stuck in an intersection or in front of oncoming traffic.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the check engine and slip warning indicators remained illuminated when the vehicle was parked or when shifting out of drive. Also, while driving highway speeds, the vehicle lost power, the transmission gears failed to change over, and the vehicle shut down. The vehicle was coasted off the road and parked. Balise Nissan of cape cod (322 falmouth rd, hyannis, MA 02601, (508) 815-4010) was contacted and indicated that an unknown manufacturer campaign regarding the reprogramming of the continuously variable transmission (cvt) failed. The dealer recommended that the vehicle be diagnosed to determine if the cvt needed to be replaced. The vehicle was unable to be driven and the manufacturer did not volunteer to have the vehicle towed. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 122,000.

3 Transmission Slip Out Of Gear problem

Failure Date: 09/16/2016

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle stalled. In addition, the vehicle failed to shift out of the drive gear. The contact, who had an infant present, had to engage the emergency hazard lights and received help pushing the vehicle to the side of the road. The contact placed a screwdriver in the gear shifter to help change gears, and was able to restart the vehicle on the third attempt. The vehicle was diagnosed by an independent mechanic who determined that the shifter cylinder was fractured and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 65,000.
