Automatic Transmission Control Module Problems of Nissan Altima

I have a issue with my vehicle going into limp mode due to a safety issue with the tcm loosing programming with the transmission. This is a big safety as I'm on the hi way. Car will go from 75 mph down to 20mph and can cause for severe car accident. I spike to your warranty department and they gave me the run around. I gave them info in reguards to a campaing id# which is a clear issue that these Nissan cars are still having. A recall was terminated in late 2016, yet a bulletin was posted online of it being active as of 1/ 2017 still. I was told that it's my problem now and my issue to have Nissan charge me for a reprogramming of the tcm when clearly this issue is still present in. Vehicles in 2024. Many of times I came close to averting a major accident due to car loosing communications with tcm. Again this is very unfair as to how a dealership can brush this safety issue under the rug by simply telling a Nissan vehicle owner, sorry recall was closed, after less then a year of finding out the issue on a car. Nissan must want someone to end up dead in there cars due to a tcm malfunction with transmission so they can bring this to light again. The service bulletin is still out there on there forums and states nothing about warranty, milage of vehicle or any time frame, yet deny that the issue still exist in there vehicles. I hope you all can investigate this further and have Nissan correct there wrongs and not allow someone to die on any americam road due to there neglect of a still persistant issue. . .

My engine service light is on and I have scanned with diagnostics. The code p0101, c119a, and c1155 with the most likely solution is to reprogram the power train control module(pcm).

Cvt failed without warning. No warning lights, no slippage. Stalls randomly in drive and reverse. Restarted after 5 minutes and drove fine again. Had to spend $250 in towing fees in the same week. Nissan didn't admit cvt fault knowingly. Happened shortly after their recall on the tcm transmission control module reprogramming. Shame on you, Nissan!.

Tl-the contact owns a 2018 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that when the vehocle was started, it did not move, then it surged forward, the rpm's went up. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The contact also stated that the failure occurred at least 10 times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer star Nissan, 5757 west touhy avenue, niles, IL 60714, they updated the transmission control module ( December 23rd , 2019 ). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 14,209. Bp.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. When the vehicle was started, the transmission would not immediately shift into gear. After shifting into drive and reverse, the vehicle would not accelerate. The cause of the failures was not determined. Herb chambers Nissan (273 turnpike rd, westborogh, MA) and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact indicated that the vehicle was previously serviced for the same failures and the transmission control module was reprogrammed. The failure mileage was 74,000.

When accelerating from 20mph to 40mph the rpms increase to 3rpm and the transmission hesitates to change the gear. It seems to be an issue with the tcm (transmission control module). I bought my car brand new in 2010. It has 220,000 miles on it. I did some research online and saw this us a known issue with the car. Nissan also sent out a bulletin ntb10-121b. In 2018 initially it started when we were driving it down the highway or street and it seem to lose power and we would press on the gas and it would sputter. There were times when we're at the stoplight and press on the gas and it wouldn't move creating a dangerous situation. This happened for about 2 months until it wouldn't move in drive or reverse, so towed home then to dealership because of a recall on a transmission control module only to find out from the service department that they could not update the control module because the vehicle would not move they did a diagnostic test and said we needed a cvt automatic transaxle assembly transmission. We bought it used in 2016 and now it only has 74,000 miles on it. Never had a problem out of it until last year 2018. Now when we put it in drive or reverse it will not move.

Cvt transmission failed completely on 2013 Nissan Altima 2. 5 s with 92,000 miles. Vehicle began shuddering and jerking while driving at moderate speed in town. Rpms shot up to 3-4k intermittently while maintaining speed on flat road. Started to hear grinding noise from engine compartment, so pulled into parking lot. After waiting an hour for power train to cool off, started the car again to find total cvt failure, with vehicle stalling and engine shutting off upon shifting into r or d. Could not even drive vehicle back into parking space after it rolled backwards on first attempt to move. Vehicle was towed to dealership, who diagnosed internal cvt failure with $3800 quote for repair. Nissan consumer affairs was contacted numerous times and offered no assistance. Nissan regional specialist stated that 2007-2010 Altima cvt warranty was extended to 120,000 miles due to widespread problems, but that problems had been fixed in newer models, so no warranty extension applied to 2013 Altima. As of April 2018, the 2013 Altima has more power train complaints to NHTSA (241) than all of the 2007-2010 Altima model years combined (206). Vehicle had tcm reprogramming performed at Nissan dealership in April 2017 within two weeks after recall notice was sent to owner by mail.

Greetings, I am writing this complaint to notify the NHTSA of a deadly problem with the cvt transmission in the Nissan Altima! I have experienced this where the vehicle either turns off, stutters, or and hesitates for several seconds. This hesitation is deadly because when pulling out or merging on to a highway there is loss of power and this will cause a fatal accident due to the vehicle not accelerating as expected. In fact, this issue is so prevalent that nisaan reprogrammed the transmission control module (tcm). This half measure is little too little too late as transmission damage has already occurred and it leads to premature failure. This failure leads to the vehicle being a hazard in traffic. I personally have dozens of accounts where this has happened to me. The most recent was on 12/11/17 while driving on a busy street when the car simply lost power and died in the middle of the street. A car behind swerved excessively to avoid hitting me and in doing almost had an accident with another motorist! the car had to be pushed into a nearby parking lot and was towed to the dealership. The dealership ran a diagnostic and confirmed the transmission needed to be replaced. I found this rather dubious as the vehicle is a 2015. I began investigating this issue further. Upon further investigation, I found this problem is extremly prevalent with this model. There are thousands of incidents of owners having an experience akin to mine. Nissan is aware of this problem and has yet to admit fault. The reprogramming of the tcm is a clear indication Nissan is aware of the issue and is attempting to remedy it by eliminating certain shift points; however, it is inadequate and the damage has already been done. The lives of people are at stake with this transmission! is it just of matter of time before the loss of life will occur because of this faulty cvt transmission! thank you!.

The contact owns a 2014 Nissan Altima. While attempting to accelerate after making a turn, the vehicle failed to respond. The vehicle was taken to coggin Nissan on atlantic in jacksonville (10600 atlantic blvd, jacksonville, FL 32225, tel: 904-302-8231) to be diagnosed. The contact was informed there was a TSB/manufacturer communication number: ntb15-086d (power train) for the reprogramming of the tcm. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and provided case number: 27315253. The vehicle was not repaired a second time. The approximate failure mileage was 66,801.

Transmission goes into neutral without warning check engine light on vehicle will go moving middle of driving on freeway the reprogrammed the tcm still same problem with vehicle. It can cause accidents since no warning when vehicle goes to neutral without any warning.

2011 Nissan Altima sr sedan 3. 5 cvt. When driving, cvt goes into safe mode with reduced acceleration, indicating a transmission issue and would also trigger vehicle dynamic control system fault. . Original engine code was p0175. Had mechanic replace 31935-1xf00 speed sensor assy. Problem was not corrected. Took to local dealer and was told needs new transmission control module unit $850 and new transmission $3,500. Only 39,400 miles on vehicle (60,000 mile powertrain) but past he 60 month warranty by 5 months. Nissan will not cover. Nissan na consumer affairs contacted, researched and also denied. Will not cover and will not provide any partial assistance. Car is in excellent condition, driven lightly and no way transmission should need to be replaced at 39,000 miles. Manufacture date of vehicle is Dec 2010. Nissan extended cvt warranties to 10 years / 120k miles for several years because of the same and other cvt issues. Stopped extended warranty for 2011 models. Don't know if car is safe to drive or if transmission is going to fully fail. Took vehicle back from dealer, can't afford to fix. Now trying to replace transmission control unit with used same year/model. When vehicle is completely disconnected, trouble codes cleared and all electrical drained, then reconnected, all issues disappear for 10 to 20 miles of perfectly normal driving, then issues recur with cvt fail safe mode and vdc fault. Nissan should be recalling this issue and correcting it!! again don't know if vehicle is safe to drive or if transmission is going to fail in the middle of getting onto highway in heavy traffic? dealer diagnostic showed a number of codes: p0175 input speed sensor a (even though it has been replaced and new), p1700 cvt c/u funct, p1715 in puly speed, u1000 can comm circuit and also told the tcm is not sending a signal.

My car jerks hard at low speed around 15-20 mph while decelerating on city streets. In bumper to bumper traffic the cvt tranny is at its worse. It feels like the tranny can't decide what it needs to do. Also, between 60-65 mph on the highway there is a judder feeling like the car is moving across a wash board. Took car to the dealer on 02dec15, tcm was reprogramed. 08dec15, car has the same issue.

I was owner 2010 Altima . The under excellent maintain. When I buy this . We worry about cvt transimision weak and buy 100k mile waranty. The car only over 125 mile of 100 k the transimision fail. And towing to dealer . The dealer diagnose cvt fail but Nissan refuse dealer replace transimision and request dealer replace tcm(transmission control module) first. That waste my time . 10 days in dealer shop still not any result.

Vehicle briefly shut down while driving beginning 2014, like a hick-up, interruption of power. However it would continue. No real problems at first. Then, began to completely power off, difficult to restart and I'd lose auto transmission function and have to manually shift which bucked every gear. Park it for a while, restart and it'd drive just fine until the engine was warm then it'd power off. . . All over again. . Mechanic stated it was the tcm. Replaced it, service engine light went off, seemed fine. Now it's stalling and same issues with tranny. Now pulling a camshaft sensor code. Ugh! I bought this car used in 2014 and it's only been drivable for 3 months. The biggest pain in my a$$. $houldve bought a horse instead. Nissan you manufacture shit poor products knowingly and hide!!.

Transmission control module; vehicle suddenly has an unexpected loss of power on highway and will not change gears. Camshaft sensors; sudden loss of power traveling at high rate of speed, unexpected stalling or engine to shut down and not restart. Both very dangerous because you almost get run over by the vehicle behind you. They come up on you too fast, continuing their normal highway speeds not realizing your vehicles loss of power until theyre right up on you then have to either slam on their brakes or make sudden lane change without properly signaling warning other drivers. Timing chain guide and timing chain tensioners; wear out prematurely causing loosening of the timing chain, makes a very loud clanking or ticking sound asbit hits the guide and can cause damage to the engine. Struts mounts; corrode and wear out creating a rough and unstable steering control and clanking sound as the struts hit when driving over uneven roadways, cracks, driveways and speed bumps. Makes it more difficult to steer cause the vibration and rattling in the front end. This occurs in the 3. 5 liter engine. There has already been service bulletins and recalls on the 2. 5 liter engine but not 3. 5. The issues are the same for both engines. The same parts/manufacturers are used on both yet the 3. 5 liter wasnt included. Problems are ongoing daily. Its very unsafe.

Transmission begins to vibrate when car is loaded with passengers and / or going up a hill. Reported it to local Nissan dealer at 17,000 miles and it seemed to stop vibrating for about 5,000 and then it started again. We now have 35,000 miles on this car and we have taken it to the local Nissan dealer again. They performed a tcm reprogram to the car, but the transmission still vibrates. We have reported this to Nissan corp office and they have set up case # 17560576 to begin looking into what is causing this problem.

I purchased my 2013 Nissan Altima 3. 5 sl with about 18,000 miles in may of 2013. The car performed well in the beginning. At about 28773 miles the car began to shutter hesitate and not shift properly. Upon inclines hills low speeds, low rpm's it was especially noticable. I brought my Nissan to a local dealership and they reprogrammed the automatic transmission control module. The car performed normally but then intermittently the same problem the shutter, lack of shifting properly the hestation, jerky strong vibrations, jumping of rpm's. I brought it back to the local Nissan dealership and they again reprogrammed the transmission control module. It was road tested and they reccommended the transaxle be replaced for repair. This was at 55002 miles. I was informed that the new transmission warranty would be 10 years and 120,000 miles. My concern is the safety for consumers. The car doesn't perform properly with the existing cvt transmission the belt slips and the car does not shift or is stuck in excelaration. It is an ongoing problem. The transaxle was replaced however I wasn't informed the existing problem was fixed correctly with the new transmission. I was informed about a warranty. I am concerned I wil encounter the same unsafe condition! the car was repaired as of 08/22/2015.

Noticed problem back in Jan. Car would make a banging noise & jolt forward when coasting to a stop. Same problem also occurs when stopping and going to accelerate after stop. Have take car to dealer I purchased it at 5 times & was told there was nothing wrong , they could not duplicate the issue I was having. On July 11, 2013 the technician took the car home & they finally and was able to document the issue was real and now a new transmission is required! in Dec 2012 there was a recall done on the tcm thats when the proble started after recall.

After heating up (an hour or so of driving), the check engine light comes on and the transmission begins to fail. Push the gas pedal all the way down, and the rpm's go way up, but car barely accelerates. First attempt at dealership, they could not find the problem. A day later, the problem happened again. The second attempt, they replaced the transmission control module. A day later, it happened again. Currently at the dealership for the third time. Car only has 4,500 miles on it. Beginning to get pretty frustrating.

An existing recall on this vehicle should include the 3. 5l engine as well as camshaft/crankshaft and tcm. All cause similar life-threatening symptoms while driving the vehicle suddenly powers completely off briefly losing all power to lights etc, decelerate rapidly and you lose steering control and speed control. Vehicles come up on you quickly at night and even if you get the vehicle restarted you have no power in transmission and merely limp on at an idle speed. Very very dangerous. Why it wasn't included in the original 2007 recall is Nissan trying to save a buck. They used the same mfg & same parts as in the 2. 5l. They knowingly withheld it from being included. I also contacted them about the tcm. Keep in mind the were biting their nails after being presented with a class action suite regarding the defective tcm. Luckily for them it was dismissed temporarily. But they never mentioned any similar complaints when they responded to me and never offered any resolution to the problem.
