The sunroof completely dislodged from the vehicle and flew off into the traffic behind me on a highway. This included the entire sunroof - the frame, casing, window, mechanics and all! this was obviously a major safety issue for any vehicle driving behind me as well as a safety issue for me driving while such an explosive event occurred - highly alarming and dangerous. The problem has not yet been inspected by a shop, dealer, police officer, or insurance adjuster. I do not have the part for inspection as it is shattered in or off the highway somewhere and trying to retrieve it would have been very dangerous.

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally report a dangerous design oversight and safety hazard regarding the trunk lid support mechanism on the Nissan Altima. On [date of incident], while the vehicle was parked, a gust of wind caused the trunk lid to slam shut unexpectedly. The metal door latch struck me directly in the frontal region of the skull, resulting in an injury that required medical monitoring for potential brain trauma. The current design relies exclusively on torsion bars or gas struts to maintain an open position. These components are prone to wear and environmental fatigue, and they lack a mechanical "positive lock" or secondary safety catch. Consequently, the trunk lid acts as a sail in windy conditions, easily overcoming the lift support and turning the heavy lid and metal latch assembly into a falling hazard for any consumer loading or unloading the vehicle. While federal motor vehicle safety standards (fmvss) focus heavily on internal trunk releases (standard no. 401), there is a significant gap regarding the prevention of sudden, gravity-induced or wind-induced lid collapse. I am requesting that the NHTSA: investigate the frequency of "unintended closing" injuries related to Nissan Altima trunk lift systems. Evaluate whether the lift-support specifications for this model are sufficient to withstand common wind gusts. Mandate a mechanical locking mechanism or more robust secondary safety catches to prevent these lids from becoming dangerous projectiles. Vehicle: 2005 Nissan Altima | VIN: [xxx] to the executive team and legal counsel, I am writing this under extreme duress following a catastrophic, life-threatening vehicle failure on April 23, 2026, in ripley, wv. While transporting my [xxx] son, my 2005 Nissan Altima suffered a sudden engine stall, followed by the engine bay becoming saturated with oil and emitting heavy smoke. This event is the direct result of Nissan’s failure to remediate known federal safety defects, specifically NHTSA recall 07v527000 (crankshaft sensor/stalling) and NHTSA recall 06v223000 (oil consumption/fire risk). Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

While driving my 2005 Nissan Altima in active traffic with my [xxx] child, the vehicle suddenly stalled without any warning. The engine completely shut off while in motion, creating an immediately safety hazard in live traffic conditions. Immediately after the stall, I observed oil leakage and smoke entering the cabin. The vehicle became inoperable and we were stranded roadside. This failure is consistent with a known defect involving the crankshaft position sensor and engine control system addressed in NHTSA campaign 07v-527, which describes sudden engine stall without warning due to sensor signal interruption. Although my vehicle previously received recall-related service, this incident suggests the prior remedy did not prevent recurrence of the defect. Sudden engine shutdown while driving in traffic loss of vehicle power without warning smoke entering passenger cabin risk of crash involving child passenger request: I am requesting that NHTSA: review this incident for potential recall remedy failure investigate whether this represents recurrence of a known defect determine whether additional corrective action is needed for this vehicle population information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I purchased a 2022 Nissan Altima from drive time with 90,000 miles on it. I would have had this car for 2 years this month in may. The car currently has about 122,587 miles on it and has transmission cvt failure. I notice pulling, not being able to accelerate while car was in motion, and while car was stop at green light waiting to procced. While hitting the gas the car would go into limp mode and it would be hard to drive. I've gotten three different diagnose that transmission was getting ready to go out.

I recently bought a 2019 Nissan Altima sr and when I got it home I noticed the door locks weren't locking or unlocking on 3 doors! the salesman didn't mention any problems with the car and I inspected it and didn't notice this until I got it home. This is a safety issue and everything should work on a vehicle when one buys it. There were no warnings and I have a family with two teen kids and one drives. I've reported this to the dealer and they haven't responded yet. I don't feel safe in the car with this problem and I also saw this is a common complaint on different websites. I can't afford to shell out more money for a repair that should of been done before they sold it to me. There should be an immediate recall that Nissan needs to address this.
In 2022, there was a recall on the hood latch system. At that time the dealership was able to spray a substance on the latch and close out the recall instead of replacing the latch. Now my car is having issues with the latch that should’ve been replaced from the start. Therefore, the solution during the recall only prolonged the issue and did not fix the issue. There hasn’t been an accident, as of now. However, this could cause an extreme situation and put everyone’s safety at risk.

The first code it threw was for the master air flow sensor then it started bogging out not going over 1rpm -throwing the code "p17f0 cvt judder" and has left me in some really, really bad situations in traffic, and when it boggs down like that (no matter how many times I turn it off and restart it, even if the battery drains all the way out and I have to get a jump) I have to wait two hours after unhooking the battery and sit for an hour if not more before I can start it up and actually get down the rd. And it runs great like nothing was wrong it. But doesn't get far before doing it again.
I am reporting a potential unintended automatic emergency braking event involving a 2025 Tesla cybertruck. On 23mar2026, at approximately 40 mph, I was traveling behind a Tesla cybertruck on a public roadway. There were no visible obstacles, hazards, or debris in the roadway that I observed. The cybertruck suddenly and aggressively braked without warning. The abrupt deceleration appeared inconsistent with road conditions and is consistent with what is commonly described as “phantom braking. ” as a result of the sudden stop, I was unable to avoid a collision with the rear of the vehicle despite maintaining a reasonable following distance. After the impact, the cybertruck initially left the scene, stating they were unaware a collision had occurred. No debris or roadway hazard was documented at the scene in the police report (fvpd report #2026-00777). The other driver later indicated a plastic bag may have triggered the vehicle’s emergency braking system. I am submitting this report as a potential safety issue involving unintended or inappropriate automatic emergency braking behavior.

I am having issues with the back-up camera display on the radio screen freezing up occasionally while backing up and once it went black while backing up. I have also had dozens of issues with the drivers door not opening. Occasionally when I try to exit the vehicle the door will not fully unlatch to open. It will only partially unlatch to open a crack. I have tried locking/unlocking, shutting off the vehicle and starting the vehicle, roll down the window and try to exit using the outside handle, but was unable to exit the vehicle. The only way I could get out of the vehicle was to exit through the passenger door. After several minutes or longer it will finally open to exit. This is a severe entrapment issue. These issues have happened on multiple occasions, but did not start until after the factory warranty ended.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a defective aftermarket fuyao windshield installed by safelite in my 2017 Nissan Altima. This windshield presents a serious safety hazard to drivers, passengers, and the public. Windshield identification: [xxx] solar tint hazard description: • the fuyao dot-1038 windshield produces extreme glare, light scatter, and optical distortion, making driving hazardous in daylight, low-angle sunlight, and nighttime conditions. • during daytime, sunlight reflecting off vehicles, the hood, and surrounding surfaces produces a snow-like field of intense points of light, severely impairing road visibility. • at night, oncoming headlights generate starburst patterns, temporarily blinding the driver. • interior reflections from the dashboard amplify these effects. • these hazards are not present in oem Nissan windshields and have been consistently reported by other vehicle owners and automotive technicians in online forums and discussions involving fuyao dot-1038 windshields. (do a quick google gemini search on fuyao-1038 and optical distortions) incident: • on March 6, 2026, the glare caused a collision in a walmart parking lot in [xxx] , where I struck a cement stop post that was obscured by the glare. • while no injuries occurred, the potential for serious injury or death was high. Consumer pattern: • multiple drivers have reported similar optical defects with fuyao [xxx] / as-1 m147 / fw4160 windshields, including excessive glare, light scatter, starburst effects, and unsafe driving conditions. • these reports indicate a systemic manufacturing or optical defect, making this an urgent safety concern. Safety standard reference: the optical behavior of this windshield raises concerns regarding compliance with federal motor vehicle safety standard 205 (fmvss-205), which governs optical clarity and safety requirements for automotive glazing materials. Sincerely [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

When putting my vehicle in reverse, I noticed the screen on the back up camera was blank/black color and did not show the angles/guide of which I was parking. I also noticed on my dashboard the clock at some point changed to "am" and said 109am when it was 529pm so I had to manually change the time. I never disconnected the battery for this to have happened. Everything else shows on the screen except for the use of the back up camera so it must be a glitch with the software or wiring.
Drivers side window & door latch does not work. Door latch has to be push in after it opens the door & window will not go now.

Every time I put the breaks on or go over any kind of speed bump, it bounces and sounds like warn out bed springs. Out of nowhere the volume on my radio will turn up extremely loud. Its happened more than a handful of times while driving and it scared me to the point of having to pull over to gather myself. Some days it doesn’t work at all. The past 3 months, my front passenger window gets stuck and won’t go up without me turning the car off then back on and still at times won’t work. I’ve had no choice but to leave the window down more than enough times and putting plastic over it until it decides to work again. The engine shakes and it feels like the transmission is about to give.
The passenger airbag system failed, specifically the occupant sensor and the pad beneath the passenger seat. These components are responsible for detecting whether a passenger is present and ensuring the airbag deploys correctly in a crash. I've also been told that I may be at risk of not having my airbag deploy in an accident. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request. I am a single mother. My child rides in the vehicle regularly, and my elderly parents occasionally ride in the passenger seat . Because the occupant sensor has failed, the passenger airbag may be suppressed entirely in the event of a collision. No passenger in the front seat would have airbag protection in an accident, and it's possible I would not either. We have been driving under these conditions for an extended period of time without a remedy. A trusted independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and confirmed the fault. They diagnosed the issue as a failure of the occupant classification sensor and seat pad, and noted that recalibration was attempted. The recalibration did not resolve the problem, and the airbag warning light remains on. I have not yet taken the vehicle to a Nissan dealership for diagnosis. It has not been inspected by Nissan, law enforcement, or insurance representatives. The airbag warning light on the dashboard has been illuminated continuously for many months. The light is solid, not flashing, which my mechanic indicated reflects a confirmed, persistent fault in the system rather than an intermittent issue. There were no prior symptoms before the light appeared.
Subject safety defect complaint recall repair refusal and manufacturer delay Nissan Altima 2016 my 2016 Nissan Altima is subject to a safety recall related to the hood latch cover the hood latch cover on my vehicle is defective and stuck which caused the hood to become completely locked shut this defect creates a serious safety hazard because the hood could unexpectedly open while driving putting me my family and other road users at risk I contacted and visited two authorized Nissan dealers multiple times to have the recall repair performed both dealers refused to repair the vehicle unless I personally opened the hood first I explained that the hood cannot be opened due to the recall related defect and that attempting to force it open is unsafe the dealers still refused to perform the recall repair I then contacted a third party service aaa but they refused to work on the vehicle stating that opening or driving the vehicle with a compromised hood is extremely dangerous and that this issue must be handled by the manufacturer and its authorized dealers I contacted Nissan north America directly to seek assistance instead of resolving the issue Nissan has repeatedly delayed action stating that my case is still pending dealer approval I have been told many times that there would be updates but no solution has been provided I was informed multiple times that the case is delayed and that there is currently no resolution available as of today my vehicle has been undrivable for more than one and a half months due to this unresolved safety defect I am afraid to drive the vehicle because it poses a real danger to my safety and the safety of my family this situation has caused significant stress and hardship I am filing this complaint with NHTSA because an authorized dealer is refusing to perform a required safety recall repair.
On January 5, 2026, my son was driving to work at around 8:30 am est. While waiting to turn left at a stoplight, his car inadvertently moved forward and collided with an oncoming vehicle. After the collision, he discovered the gas pedal had snapped off, causing the unintended movement. His vehicle was only traveling at 5 mph or less at the time of impact, so the pedal breakage was not due to the collision. Stranded in the intersection, he was assisted by two individuals who pushed his car to safety. The police arrived, and a report was filed. Our insurance accepted liability for the accident, which was caused by the vehicle's malfunction, not my son's negligence.
Passenger back locks stopped working first. Then driver side back locks. Now both driver and passenger front locks will not lock/unlock automatically. This is scary when not being able to get in/out of vehicle for an emergency. I have reviewed multiple complaints and it appears this is a very common Nissan problem that needs to be addressed before it becomes a bigger safety problem.
I am writing to request immediate assistance regarding the recall inspection for my 2020 Nissan Altima platinum. Last week I received a letter notifying me of an open recall and instructing me to have my vehicle inspected. I brought my car to my local Nissan dealership on Saturday. During the inspection, I was told that metal debris was found in the engine and that the vehicle would need a full engine replacement. I was asked to leave the car at the dealership and was told I would receive a loaner vehicle on Monday. After waiting all day today for an update, I was informed that Nissan declined the engine replacement because the debris found did not “qualify” under the recall. I was told the dealership would clear the debris out of the engine and that I could pick up the car tomorrow. I am very concerned about this decision. Metal debris inside an engine—especially during an active recall related to engine failure—raises serious safety and reliability issues. Simply clearing out the debris does not address the root cause or provide confidence that the vehicle is safe to drive. This matter is urgent, as I must drive more than 1,000 miles soon to take my medically complex daughter to a children’s hospital. I need to trust that my vehicle is safe for long-distance travel. I am requesting a prompt review of my case and a second evaluation to determine whether an engine replacement or another appropriate remedy is necessary to ensure my vehicle’s safety.
Dashboard indicates issue with forward collision warning or aeb. Car does not brake when cars in front of me brake. Took back to dealership and was told they needed to reprogram and configure sonar unit. And cost would be $437. This car was purchased in July.
The hood latch disengaged while driving at a speed of around 35 mph. There were no injuries reported and the vehicle was brought to Nissan for repair.
Passenger side window stopped going up resulting in the window being down at all times. Tried to repair with a master switch replacement was unsuccessful and replaced the window regulator but did not resolve issue. Safety issue for many.
Driving on the freeway and I noticed smoke coming from under the hood so I pulled over and didn't know what caused the fire.

While driving 25mph-49mph, the hood unexpectedly opened and flew back into the windshield causing the windshield to crack/shatter. No warning lights had been illuminated. Driver pulled over safely got out of the car along with 2 passengers. Driver contacted the police and had the car towed to the nearest auto body shop. Calling Nissan on Monday 9/22/25. Seems like there was a major recall in 2020 (hood latch recall, that states the hood may open without warning while driving and could obscure the driver’s vision, increasing the risk of a crash. )that this vehicle was not part of but exact thing happend that was stated as reason for recall.
Rear suspension links rusted out. Repair place says there is a lot of rust issues that will take a lot of work to fix. Excessive rust seems to be issues with Nissan.

Nhtsa online complaint vehicle: 2019 Nissan Altima VIN: [xxx] recall: r25b1 (NHTSA recall no. 25v-437) description of the problem: my vehicle is affected by recall r25b1 (NHTSA recall no. 25v-437) related to potential bearing failures in the 2. 0l vc-turbo engine. Nissan announced this recall on June 26, 2025, but the status remains “incomplete – remedy not yet available. ” I have contacted Nissan consumer affairs and local dealerships several times, but they confirmed that there is no repair or parts available. Due to this unresolved safety recall, my state’s dmv has refused to register my vehicle, meaning I cannot legally operate it. This delay has caused significant hardship and prevents me from using my vehicle, even though the recall involves a critical safety risk (potential engine failure while driving). I am requesting that NHTSA investigate this issue and require Nissan to expedite a remedy for recall r25b1. I need a car urgently to drive to work. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
3 out of 4 of my doors have to be locked and unlocked by hand instead of using my Nissan key button to unlock my car. 3 of the motors are bad or it's some kind of electrical issue that goggle says is common in 2019 to 2020 Nissan Altimas. I feel like I shouldn't have to pay out of pocket myself to get this fixed if it's a noted common issue on goggle.
The 2017 Nissan Altima has a delay in acceleration when the gas pedal is pressed. I couldn't accelerate pass 35-40 mph when I was driving. Thankfully it was bumper to bumper traffic.
Sept 1 2025 hood latch failed causing hood to fly open to full vertical position causing body damage to both fenders and completely taking away visibility of roadway. Latch was replaced by Nissan dealer in 2022 for recall. Nissan dealer verified failed component and replaced at no charge but Nissan USA would not repair body damage.

My radio unit was replaced almost 2 years ago. Its doing the same exact thing saying no signal but my warrant ran out in 2024. I see that some vehicles same make ans model as mine have been recalled for the same thing but mine has not? safety is not a factor for this part.
Dashboard has started melting. Front half of dash has started oozing a black, sticky, shiny tar-like substance in addition to an odor. Sticks to everything and does not come off or stop oozing. Spreading to more area of the dashboard. Does create a glare on the windshield, obstructing visibility. Have always used a sun shield since purchasing the car in 2022. This just started ~7/31/2025.
