Unable to shift into gear when engaging foot brake when starting vehicle. Shift is stuck in park. Have to use tool in shift lock release to move between gears to drive car. I was driving and was stopped at a railway crossing. Put car in park. Once train had passed I tried to put car in drive position and was unable to do so. After reading manual I discovered that if a fault occurs you must use a tool on the shift lock button release to move vehicle. Very dangerous.

My rear doors won't unlock or lock using the key fob or pressing the unlock/lock button on my door. I have to manually lock it or unlock it. This happened out of nowhere. I checked the fuse box but all fuses are good.

Since I purchased this 2018 Altima (I had previously driven a 2016 Altima without aeb), I have gotten false positives from the front sensor, stopping my car at random times in clear day light traffic, on dry pavement, with no leaves or other road debris. Front sensor has continuously reported the "front sensor not available" alert multiple times in my cars short lifetime, followed by the crash icon at random times of the days, and all speeds including in the stopped position. The sensor goes out regardless or whether there are other vehicles around. I reported these issues beginningin October 2018 (the same month I purhcased my car). No Nissan vehicle should be equipped with the technology where driver's had no clue when the vehicles will come to a halt and lock without warning. This commonly happens when there are cars around me and there is a change in speed (anticipated or nto), which is common in la. My front sensor has malfunctioned several times and engaged the brakes, several times while driving on the freeway at 50mph. My car also seems to lug at times when I brake from a distance and normally which concerns me. I have reported this issues to technicians and had the brakes checked with no problems found so I have had no choice but to wait for the issues with my brakes and car to compile. The owner's manual admits aeb systems do "not function in all driving, traffic, weather, and road conditions" but the manual leaves out the part about how the systems can cause vehicles to suddenly stop even when no objects are in the driving lane. I originally reported this issue to steve yaeger on October 19, 2018--the same month I purchased the vehicle. Have brought in my vehicle into to Nissan various times in the first 3 months but technicians always told me there is nothing they can do and just shake off my concerns/try to give explanations.

Rear door locking / unlocking. Rear door dosen't lock nor unlock from key fob nor button on driver side door panel it has to be manually locked and unlocked.
I took possession of my car on 1/21/2020. The first time I used the navigation, on 2/3/2020 I missed a dentist's appointment I was going to for the first time. I entered the town then the building number and street name. The directions sent me in a completely opposite directions. On 2/25/2020 I was driving on the highway when an alert appeared on the board. It did not clarify the problem, it advised to refer to the manual. I took the car to the closest Nissan dealership, martin Nissan. The service manager, guy DE leo, entered his own address, choosing the town first, and he got wrong directions as well. I contacted Nissan, and the matter was passed to the escalation department. A man by the name of james, direct telephone number 615-725-7737, called me. I explained the two problems. He stated that he would review the matter and that Nissan might replace the 2020 Altima 2. 5 sl. He called me today, 2/28/2020 and told me that he spoke to guy DE leo at martin Nissan, who told him that the navigation had not malfunctioned, although he saw it do so himself. As for the alert that appeared on the dashboard, he told james that he had scanned a page of the manual referring to the alert. James, just a Nissan representative, decided that since no repairs were needed the car would not be replaced. I have no other car, and I am very fearful while driving, not knowing what else will malfunction.

After my 4. 5 hr. Shift at the hospital, I went out to start my car & it wouldn't start. It showed "no key". I had battery power but the owner's manual showed that the fob was not connecting to the car. I was stranded and it was below zero temperatures. The next day after changing the batteries in the fob, my son brought me to the car. Still no starting it. We had to tow the car to a dealer who proceeded to charge me $1301 dollars to fix. It was the "defective steering lock module" (exact words on the bill) and I needed a new battery even though it was only 2 years old. The dealer didn't know why my battery was affected but it would no longer hold a charge. When I looked on ebay for the steering part, it was $350. Nissan charged me double. I asked the dealer why the double charge, they said "who knows, call Nissan. " when I asked why this "defective part" was not recalled, the reply was "Nissan offered an extension on the warranty. You should have been notified. " this is a safety issue as there was no warning of it's going out and Nissan knows about it.

Issue: steering lock fault preventing car from starting. Dear sir: I am very angry, frustrated and disappointed with this ongoing issue with my ¿09 Altima. I am sure you can imagine how disconcerting it is to not know when or if your car will start. I have been repeatedly stranded by this problem and have had to be jump started on many occasions and finally towed to the dealership to hopefully fix once and for all. This is the 2nd repair I¿ve had to have done on the same or related issue: steering lock. The first repair was resolved by replacing the brake light switch for a total of $177. 18. The second repair was fixed by replacing the steering lock for a total of $908. 04 plus rental of $45. 00. The towing was included in my auto insurance policy. I realize this is not a new vehicle, however in my mind, this is an item that should not fail as there is no manual/alternative starting mechanism. Not to mention, I¿d be fine with the ¿old fashioned¿ key start. I¿m not sure why Nissan hasn¿t stepped up in a major way to fix this known problem. A simple google search will tell you this is no small/isolated issue. As a multiple Nissan vehicle owner and hopefully a long time, repeat customer I am respectfully requesting a full reimbursement in the amount of - $1,130. 22.
My car started fine yesterday I saw the key light came on I assumed it was because the battery was low. I changed the battery in both keys. The next day my fiancee drove my car to work an hour away. It would not start at all, the light comes on and the steering is not locked but the car will not start at all and it can not shift at all. After looking in the manual it states that it is an idicator that the steering lock has failed. This seems to be an issue with hundreds of other cars and it is going to cost 1200 to fix this. My fiancee was stranded an hour from home and his cell died, not to mention he works nights and got off at 5am and could not find a ride or a nearby place to call home long distance.
For unknown reasons, the brakes stay on causing the car to either not move, or to go into limp mode. When this happens, the gear shifter can be moved out of park without depressing the brake. Also, the car can be started without having to depress the brake pedal. Sometimes, the outside brake lights stay on, sometimes they don't. I replaced the brake light switch and manually operating the switch would not make lights go off. Sometimes when driving, the brake system will release and vehicle accelerates rapidly, to the point of losing control. Sometimes, a quick pump of the brake pedal will release whatever is going on-sometimes nothing will cause it to go back to normal. Removing the negative battery cable will turn off the lights, but will not reset the problem. Dealer has no suggestions to remedy the problem, except to let them keep the car and to start replacing parts until they make the problem go away. Nissan America says Nissan has already spent too much money trying to resolve previous issues on this car and would not spend another penny!!! private mechanic that is trying to troubleshoot problem is having no luck determining the cause. There are Nissan TSB's about shorted wiring, but only Nissan techs can acces those. Car has been in shop 44 times for 62 days for various major problems that Nissan can't or won't fix completely. Nissan refuses to try to make the situation right, even though they admit the down time is exorbitant and not in lines with their company satisfaction guarantee.
"takata recall"-thanksgiving eve stranded with a key/keyfob unable to start car on lock. November 2015-cincinnati, OH (highland/ridge) parking lot I thought it was the key fob not working. Had a kind women take me to a store to purchase and / replace my 2032 battery within key fob. Still did not work. Read the manual several times including contacting the dealership to assist in working through any unknown issues that I might have not discovered or tried. Came back out and tried to start the car, a key light was flashing on the dash, brake was hard to press. The car still would not start. I was forced to have car towed to dealership several hours later. While waiting, I googled the result, I was shocked at all the complaints on the same malfunction. ".
Blind side zone detection on both sides of the vehicle malfunction during times of rainy weather. I have taken the car into dealership several times for this issue and filed a complaint with Nissan ( case # 18325494 being handled by angie). Both dealership and Nissan have said that this issue can not be repaired. At issue is that during rainy weather the blind spot warning lights come on with no vehicles in this spot. This causes the driver to swerve the car to get out of the way of a phantom vehicle. This almost resulted in an accident in florida on I-10 this past month. Both dealership and Nissan stated to me that in the owners manual it states that this safety option may malfunction during rainy weather. So Nissan knows about this problem before the car is sold, it is in the owners manual, but refuses to fix the problem. 1. Why does Nissan "tout" this safety feature when they knowingly know that it may malfunction when the driver needs it the most? 2. Although it is stated in the owners manual that this is a problem, the owners manual is not given to the customer nor made available to read before the purchase of the vehicle. How is the owner to know that the safety option they are purchasing may malfunction during the time they need to use it the most? 3. Nissan's response to the above is to just turn off the safety equipment you bought during rainy weather. This is an unacceptable response to a big safety issue with this car. 4. An acceptable remedy to this problem a. Fix the problem. B. Return my money to me and I will give the car back. C. Make the same options as a and b above to all other customers. Thanks.

When I started the car in the morning the car would not get out of parking tried several times to turn of car and start car to see if it get out of park and it would not. Had to insert another object in manual shift release to get car into gear and drive. Called dealer they said it is unknown if covered. Took it to the dealer they looked at it and said it is not covered and the part is over a month away. I have seen several other cars have the same issue.
In the September of 2014, the power door locks stopped working (would not open/close with the use of either the remote or the button on the driver door). At first it was the front and rear passenger doors, but then over the next 1-2 weeks both driver side door locks stopped working as well. The vehicle was not in any accident nor exposed to excessive water/fire/etc around this time. When I had it evaluated at the Nissan dealership, I was told the door actuators had broken, but given no explanation as to how/why this would happen for all 4 doors at the same time. Due to the high cost of repair (quoted $250 per door), I have not had these fixed. Now, nearly 9-10 months later, the locks remain completely unresponsive to the keyless entry remote and the power lock button on the driver's door, and must be manually locked/unlocked.
I went to run an errand and when I came back out to my car from the store, it wouldn't start. I found that the "no key" warning light was lit on the dash and the vehicle security warning light would turn on when I tried to start the vehicle. When I pushed the start button, nothing happened, it stayed in the "lock" setting. After trying everything I could think of (with no tools available), including using both keys, to get the car to start and reading the owner's manual I realized that my car was not going to start. I was able to get a ride home and researched the issue where I found hundreds of complaints on the NHTSA website, along with threads on forums describing the exact same issue. I had to get the car towed to the dealership, where it was replaced free of charge because Nissan knows that this is a failed part and has extended the warranty. However, there should have been a recall on this as this failure renders the car incapable of starting and since there seems to be a lot of people affected by this failure. I have contacted Nissan about paying for my towing bill since, if there was a recall, I could have driven my vehicle to the dealership while it was still working to have the part replaced proactively instead of having to be stranded and charged for a towing bill.
This is an incident that has occurred multiple times, most recently on 2/23/15. Car would not start in colder weather. Replaced battery in January of 2014 fine for awhile. Happened again in December 2014. Got jump start and took to repair shop. Could not find anything wrong with it. Started fine for shop. January 2015, incident occurred again where car would not start. Brought back to repair shop, said I had a faulty battery. Battery replaced. February 2015, less than 3 weeks after new battery put in, car starts fine. Stopped for gas not even 2 minutes later. Trying to start car after filling up, car will not start. Steering wheel is in locked position, brakes are locked up, red light flashing as on dash as if there is no key in the car. Locks were not responsive to either manual button on door nor with key fob. Ignition would not even come close to turning over. No lights would turn on. Car was just dead. Had to tow to repair shop, where mechanic said battery was completely dead. It was brand new 3 weeks ago!!!! still don't know the real root of the problem. No one can find anything else wrong with it. Have read several other posts with similar situations and it seems that Nissan fixing the bcm is the only thing that seems to work in the long run. This is something they should be mandated to do!!!! car is barely 4 years old and has had this problem for over a year. Ridiculous! Nissan needs to own up to their faulty "no key" ignition system.

My car has had the abs and the tire light on constantly - does not go off and cost a fortune to have fixed - according the to manual after inflating the tires it states the light may not go off and you have to take it to the dealer to be repaired at your expense. The safety issue is since these lights are on constantly have to keep checking my tires to make sure they are properly inflated and with the abs light all the time you don't know when there is an actual problem with the brakes.
I went to shop-rite at 6 am to purchase lunch meat for my daughters school lunch. When I went to start the car it would not start. I thought it was the battery so I read the car manual on how to jump a car battery. In the car manual on page 0-12, the warning /indicator lights, page. I saw a picture of the warning indicator that was on my dash board and it had a page number 2-26. On the page it read" it is a security indicator light, to call the dealership" the car would not start with the push button. The car does not have a back up key entry either. So I was stranded at the supermarket. I had to call a tow truck in order for me to get home. I had the company who towed the car and who has been servicing our family cars for years call Nissan to see how Nissan can fix the car. Nissan advised that this part is not under warranty or under any recall and that there is nothing that they can do. They said it will cause me an estimated $3000 dollars to get the car fixed. Mind you the car is only 3 1/2 years old and I am still making car payments. Ray and dana who towed and fixed the car doubled checked for me to see if this part was under a Nissan recall or if this part is under warranty, to my surprise it is not. I can't believe that a push button car does not have a back up to start a car when the push button malfunction. This does not make any sense. I can not believe that there is no alternate way of starting a car when a push button does not work. Thank goodness that this happened close to home and not while I was out with my daughters. How can a car be built with out any back up plan. Better yet how can this happen to a 3 year old car with only 70297 miles. Also my tires have been recalled and the engine was recalled and lastly my passenger air bag goes on when it wants to. I am paying so much money for a lemon and no one can help me. I will never buy a Nissan again.
The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Altima. The contact stated the owner's manual displayed a message informing him of a chime alert that would sound whenever the driver seat belt was not securely fastened. With the seat belt unfastened, the contact noticed that the chime alert did not sound. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where the contact was told that the vehicle was not equipped with a chime system, contrary to what the owner's manual stated. The failure and current mileage was 700. Updated 06/01/lj.
