37 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 11/13/2020

I have been hearing a clunking sound from rear of car for few years multiple trips to dealers and had them look into noise. The only thing they came up with is the shocks were bad, I replaced them and car still had the clunking sound. I was returning home from trip to store and when entering my driveway off public side road @ about 2mph the drivers side rear control arm broke clean off from the mount bolted to the frame and the tire crashed into the inner fender and twisted to ~45 degree angle. I know that the 2013 has a recall in USA and canada and canada also has recall for 2014 for the same problem. If this had broke while I was on expressway 5 minutes earlier this could have caused serious injury to myself and passengers not to mention any body else that could have in my path. When dealer replaced driver side he said that the passenger side needed to be replaced also as it was showing stress cracks. The car is garage kept and located located in wisconsin I have all the parts that came off the car if anything is needed I can be reached @ scannerdan2003@gmail. Com.

I have had my 2013 Altima for 6 monthd. It was maryland state inspected in April before my time of purchase. Today oct 23, 2020 I was driving on the highway about 50 mph on my way to work. I heard a bang sound and all my trac control lights came on my dashboard and I list steering in the rear. Pulled over and found the rear control arm or a frame is totally rusted and broke in half where it looks like it was welded by the manufacturer. This is not safe at all. Being a beginner driver especially, I see all complaints of this problem. Why is Nissan not helping?.

44 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 09/09/2020

On 9/9/2020 my wife was driving our 2014 Nissan Altima home from an errand when she felt that the steering was compromised. After arriving home she asked me to drive the car. I proceeded to back out of our driveway and after traveling only about 6' the driver rear wheel 'dropped'. Before exiting the vehicle I told her that it felt like the wheel had fallen off. I crawled under the vehicle and found that the rear driver control arm had completely rusted through causing the part to fail. I spoke to Nissan consumer affairs and learned that there was not an open recall for the 2014 Altima but there was for the 2013 Altima. I then decided to investigate on the national highway traffic safety administration website. I learned that the 2013-2018 control arm share a similar design when further reading NHTSA action number ea 19002. I also discovered that there was recall for the 2014 Altima in canada and we live 17 miles from the canadian border. I feel that the recall for this part should be expanded to include model year 2014-2018 because of the shared design.

Failure Date: 08/11/2020

The right rear control arm broke on my vehicle without warning. I was unable to control the car. Fortunately, I was only on a 30 mph road at the time. If I had been driving on the freeway, I most likely would have been seriously injured or possibly killed. There was a recall/replacement program in canada for this type of issue on the 2014 Nissan Altima, but nothing in the u. S. The repair cost me $730 due to having to drop the rear suspension in order to replace this part which made the job labor intensive. I feel that this type of issue should also be covered in the u. S.

49 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/07/2020

My rearward control arm broke on a busy street while I was driving to work. I was unable to control the vehicle steering at 30mph afterwards. I was lucky that a mechanic shop was at the very next corner. The mechanic looked underneath the car and said "unbelievable, you're lucky to be. . . . We're glad you wasn't on the highway!) then he just shook his head, in disbelief at the rust, because the control arm and the linkage was held together by rust. He further added this car 7 years young with 72,000 miles, that shouldn't have happened. Lastly, that was a very scary situation, not having control of your vehicle when you are faced with semi trucks in front and behind you and you're not able to pullover your vehicle to safety. It was a bad experience, that hopefully, no one else have to encounter.

50 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2013 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 08/02/2020

The lower control arm corroded from road salt. The control armed snapped from the bushing while I was driving!!. The control arm completely snapped from the bushing. There is a service campaign for this, but Nissan claims my VIN does not fall unto this known problem. My vehicle is in nh, and has been in this state that uses road salt since day one. I have no idea why my vehicle does is not covered under the service campaign. I am in one of the 22 states that is designated as a salt state and is mentioned in the service campaign bulletin. This is a real safety concern. I was driving approximately 40 mph when the control arm snapped. My vehicle spun 180 degrees. If this happened on the highway at a higher rate of speed, things would have been worse.

52 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 07/07/2020

Both the left and right rear control arms cracked due to rusting. My car operates in ohio, a state that uses salt to clear the roads. All the 2013 models were recalled for this manufacturing defect, however my car was built 9/29/13 at the start of the 2014 production. They were still using the same parts, since at this point they did not know they were defective, but did not recall the cars involved to be repaired. The resulting loss of control could be fatal if it happens on the freeway. Fortunately, my car did not experience that catastrophic level of impact. Howver, if my car was shipped to canada it would be part of that as they recalled all 2014's. Why isn't that the case here as they all came off the same assembly line with the same parts. This needs to be corrected in the u. S. My car started making very loud clunking noises as the parts were cracking and I stopped driving it and had it towed to the dealership. This is a significant safety issue, and Nissan knows it exists, look at onlimne reviews with the number of people having this issue, including your own site, and you can see just how bad this actually is. Please take the steps to expand this recall for the sake of all of us who own this car.

63 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 05/05/2020

I was driving at about 35mph, hit a small pothole & the rear control arm on the passenger side snapped. Not knowing about the service campaign (that came out in 10/2019- I purchased the car in 02/2020) I took it upon myself to get the part fixed. Almost $500 out of my pocket. Fast forward 10 months, driving 70 on the highway, didn't hit a pot hole or anything. . . The drivers side snapped. This is clearly a safety issue as I lost control of my car for a solid 15 seconds. How are only the 2014 Altimas in canada eligible for free repairs but a car in NY state is not? I have a case open and will be expecting a call on 02/08. 70 Front Suspension Control Arm problem of the 2014 Nissan Altima

Failure Date: 02/04/2020

We bought our new 2014 Altima in December 2013. On February 4, 2020, with 151,000 miles, my wife was driving a winding county road at approximately 50 mph and experienced a problem with her Altima. She stated that it was like the car was on ice and nearly uncontrollable. I went to her and discovered that the left rear control arm was severed at the attachment to the chassis. I drove the car about one mile at less than 20 mph and it was terrible! I told the dealer to replace both controls arms and I demanded the parts be returned to me. Upon inspection of the parts, the right control arm has severe cracking and would have failed in the same manner within days or weeks. I spoke with Nissan north America. They claimed to be aware of the problem on 2013 models only. I requested that Nissan extend their repair campaign to all affected years and notify owners of this safety concern. They have refused. They have also refused to cover the expense of our failure, which totals nearly $1800 including a rental car. At a minimum, Nissan should be requiring their dealers to inspect the controls arms of any affected Altima that is being serviced. They should be collecting data on the inspections, and they should be replacing any control arm that is showing severe degradation before it fails. Our Altima was in for service less than 3 weeks prior to failure and no related concerns were brought to our attention. Per NHTSA's open investigation #ea19002, this failure is primarily in the areas where road salt is used. Road salt means these areas are prone to slippery road surfaces. Just imagine this failure happening on a slippery road! the results could be disastrous for those involved. Nissan needs to do the right thing to protect their customers, the public and their reputation.
